To not comply...?

...if the government imposes restrictions over Christmas, given what we now know happened last Christmas with parties at downing street.

The possibility of this is rumour at the moment and hadn't been confirmed but I'm interested to see how others are feeling.

By restrictions I mean rule of 6 indoors for Christmas day or even no mixing of households for Christmas eve, Christmas day, boxing day.

I will not comply. I cannot do that to my child who is an only child and whose grandad is dying. He wants to be with extended (but very close) family at Christmas, as do I.

If we all test negative the day before we will be carrying on as normal regardless of the rules (all adults triple vaccinated)

YABU - I will follow the restrictions if brought in over Christmas

YANBU - i will not follow restrictions if brought in over Christmas

Triple vaccinated isn't a guarantee by any means. It's 75 per cent effective against getting Omicron with symptoms. So one in four triple-vaccinated people who exposed to the virus will still get COVID symptoms. Of these, some will unfortunately be hospitalised. And as it is way more contagious than the Wuhan or Delta strains, this could still overwhelm the NHS.

Op seems to have disappeared. Maybe they were only interested in the weird vote/poll thing.

Largethighsbadeyes · 19/12/2021 19:52

No I'm still here. I am interested in the poll (now sure why that's weird? It's a function provided by the site after all)

Looks like I'm not the only one thinking the same thing... after a few glasses of wine before posting. I was feeling down and pissed off. Apparently there are more than a few of us

The 'poll/vote' function is provided by the site to enable posters to reply to whether you are being unreasonable or not in the AIBU topic. As I said upthread i don't know why they don't have a proper topic where people can do surveys to their heart's content with graphs and bar charts etc.

Largethighsbadeyes · 19/12/2021 19:59

Yes, and I wanted to know whether people thought I was being unreasonable or not. Again not sure why that's weird.

If you have an issue either it then take it up with MNHQ

I have suggested it in Site Stuff before now.

Why put your own health at risk?

This comes across as glib - my employer puts my health at risk daily.

BitterTits · 19/12/2021 22:58

Perhaps I should say my employment, rather than my employer.

There's a reason why the UK has one of the highest number of cases in the world.

@Tealightsandd That would be because we are testing more than most. We have a higher testing rate than all except five other countries. We are testing four times as much as Germany and yet only have twice their case rate. That tells us that Germany actually has a higher case rate than the UK, but the cases are going undetected.

DdraigGoch · 20/12/2021 07:27

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

So go mix with your families

Don't be moaning when the schools close and you are back to home schooling then! As well as queuing to get in Tesco.

No one's going to be queuing to get into Tesco. Not now people have realised that covid doesn't give you the shits, so there's no need to buy excessive quantities of toilet rolls.

I think there’s a misperception that lockdown means the virus will go away quicker (lots of people saying ‘the more we stick to the rules now, the sooner we can get back to normal’). It doesn’t. The ONLY thing lockdown does is ease the pressure on the NHS (although finding the NHS properly would be better than endless lockdowns imo). But as soon as restrictions lift, it comes back, as we saw last year after the November lockdown. It won’t go away until either humans develop natural immunity to it or there is a vaccine that actually prevents infection and transmission. Neither seem likely.

The people I know who are in favour of strict lockdowns have a pretty good home life with partners and kids, nice houses, working from home, no money worries. For them, lockdown is pretty easy. They seem to forget that for others it is a literal hell and a matter of life and death. They all get their Amazon and Waitrose deliveries too so I’m not sure they are fully aware of the conditions others have to work in in order for their lockdowns to run so smoothly.
