To not comply...?

...if the government imposes restrictions over Christmas, given what we now know happened last Christmas with parties at downing street.

The possibility of this is rumour at the moment and hadn't been confirmed but I'm interested to see how others are feeling.

By restrictions I mean rule of 6 indoors for Christmas day or even no mixing of households for Christmas eve, Christmas day, boxing day.

I will not comply. I cannot do that to my child who is an only child and whose grandad is dying. He wants to be with extended (but very close) family at Christmas, as do I.

If we all test negative the day before we will be carrying on as normal regardless of the rules (all adults triple vaccinated)

YABU - I will follow the restrictions if brought in over Christmas

YANBU - i will not follow restrictions if brought in over Christmas

Erm..... I don't know how many people you've spoken to irl over the last few months, but the whole fucking country is awash with people that have had enough of restrictions. I know very few people that would be willing to comply with further restrictions.

And it's thanks to them that we'll all need it to go on longer. We'll all had enough. Some of us simply don't (and never did) want to drag it out. Everywhere with better mitigations and better adherence has suffered less. In every way. Death rates and bereavement, access to health and social care, economy. 'Will not comply'... good news for Covid, mutations and all. Bad news for anyone who's had enough (basically nearly everybody).

I will not comply.

@chaosrabbitland

im dyslexic so the fact you need to have your pathetic sarky dig says a lot about your mentality doesnt it ?
Honestly don't let it get to you. Some people are genuinely scared and just lashing out. Unfortunately I think we will see a lot of it over the coming weeks.

@MajorCarolDanvers

I will not comply.
Wonder what would happen if the exhausted burnt out HCP said that when yet another result of 'will not comply' is brought in?
Blue4YOU · 19/12/2021 00:43

I’m going home to Ireland unless I have Covid-19. Fuck it to everything else

😂 indeed I will- I’ll no doubt see you around on the other fifty billion I’m not complying tantrum threads 🤗

Allycott · 19/12/2021 00:46

@BurntO

Do what you want.

I will make my decision based on my perceived risk to my family. Some people I will see. Those who are at risk for a variety of reasons I will reduce contact with. Regardless of any new measures. It’s common sense surely…

Yep. This.
drainitallout · 19/12/2021 00:48

@chaosrabbitland

im not complying , im carrying on and visiting who i want over christmas and before and after , not wearing a mask now . refuse to do that again and im sure as not hell doing lft s tests , havent done one since covid began not starting now just because theres a new varient
Why are you so proud of not doing LFT's? Why is that a good thing? And who exactly benefits from that?
milly74 · 19/12/2021 00:48

We are fools to ourselves if we comply.

Good luck getting on with your life (turning your head away to pretend you haven't seen the great pile of bodies of The Others) when you can't get medical care because the hospital is full and staff dead or off sick.

Or when the shops are closed because staff are ill. Or if you join the club of The Others when you develop disabling Long Covid.

Do keep prolonging the nightmare for everybody. Shame we didn't do as other countries did. Can't avoid all the risks during a pandemic but thanks to mitigation measures, they actually can get on with their lives. Not completely but much closer to normal than us.

Germany joined France today in restricting travel from high risk countries like the UK.

PinkPomeranian · 19/12/2021 00:55

We'll comply, but I voted YANBU because I agree that the Government has lost its last slither of credibility and I can't see many people being willing to go along with more restrictions.

We have three young children so the logistics of us passing Covid between ourselves sound daunting, plus we have various elderly relatives and an unvaccinated pregnant woman in the family who I want to protect. We also have a garden, Netflix, ability to WFH etc which makes it all a lot easier to manage and I appreciate that not everyone is in the same position.

Tealightsandd · 19/12/2021 00:56

I can see why we're known as whingeing Poms.

Something very very shit happens. It won't stop happening unless and until it's dealt with. Wishing it away won't magic it away. Some countries (us) still keep trying. Others rolled up their sleeves and did/are doing what needs to be done to get through. And their hard work and effort pays off.

KilmordenCastle · 19/12/2021 00:57

No, come on, that shit won't wash any more. Do you genuinely believe that if we had a strict lockdown, and every single person followed the restrictions to the letter, then this pandemic would end? With essential services still running (so lots of people still mixing at work)? With schools still open for keyworkers children and vulnerable children? With how transmissible omicron is? With so many people all over the world not having access to vaccines? Do you really believe it would make the pandemic end sooner? Because quite a lot of people (myself included) do not believe that for a minute and don't want to keep restricting our lives to the detriment of ours and our loved ones mental heath. How can you not see that?

CoffeeMuggins · 19/12/2021 01:00

Could people explain what they would like to see happen if they don't want a lockdown to try and get some control over it? I am genuinely interested.

Control what? A minor illness for many? We just need to cut the hysteria, stop the scaremongering and live with it.

Implying that the blame for this lies with the British public is entirely absolving the mistakes that were made by the British government and the huge issues they’ve caused.

The public aren’t ‘whingeing Poms’ because they’re no longer willing to repeatedly disrupt their children’s education and childhood with schools shut but an Argos trip a-okay, followed by encouragement to eat out to help the economy. It’s beyond a joke and it’s now been a huge chunk of time that people’s lives have been disrupted.

Tealightsandd · 19/12/2021 01:06

We should have taken mitigation measures. Note, mitigation, not restriction. Kept the masks all along, good ventilation, vaccine passes. Yes other countries still have Omicron - but they're not in as bad position as we are. And they're taking proactive action to try to keep it that way.

Had we taken the right mitigation measures, there would be less need for strict and/or long and/or off on lockdown.

How does an infectious disease spread if it's opportunity to spread is limited? The answer is, it doesn't. Or at least, it's vastly reduced. There's a reason why the UK has one of the highest number of cases in the world.

The world's experts repeatedly advised Vaccine Plus.

Look East for a lesson in basic pandemic infection control that allows a life closer to normal.

aprilanne · 19/12/2021 01:07

The only people I visited was my children I didn't stop .because no one and I mean no one will stop me visiting them and my granddaughters it will just never happen unless they drag me off to jail

2pinkginsplease · 19/12/2021 01:09

I’m not complying over the Christmas period. We have stuck to the rules since March 2020. My mil is very poorly and if she gets covid it will kill her as her lungs aren’t strong however apart from work we have not went anywhere else over the last 10 days to ensure we are keeping ourselves as safe as possible, we will lft on Christmas and Boxing Day to make sure we are safe to visit, who knows if this may be her last Christmas. We are not missing time as a family.

Life cannot stop for a virus, we are all double vaccinated in our home, dh and I have had boosters so we are doing all we can to be safe,

I work closely with 3 other adults and 32 children each day, what is the difference from spending time doing this and spending time with family?

theSunday · 19/12/2021 01:09

@SituationCritical

Not complying isn't always people wanting to a "rebel" and having a good old laugh by going to parties and and sticking two fingers up at the establishment. A lot of people, like me, are teetering on the brink. The past year of minimal to no mental health help and no access to a GP when on the brink of suicide, the pressure of trying to keep a business open and employees in a job and safe, trying to help my teenage ASD son make sense of a situation amplified by the media to apocalyptic levels. Sometimes the only thing keeping you going is something like seeing your family. I'm triple vaccinated, we all take LFT and I don't go out clubbing and I wear a mask. I couldn't give two shits about pissing off Boris by ignoring his decrees, I'd just like to survive another month.
I’m so sorry to hear about your business @SituationCritical And your mental health and all the rest Flowers it’s been frickin hard.
KilmordenCastle · 19/12/2021 01:09

@tealightsandd I really think that you ought to move to one of these countries that you worship because of their covid response. There you can and slag off the Brits to your hearts content and nobody will mind.

Tealightsandd · 19/12/2021 01:10

South Korea, for example, is currently dealing with a 'surge' in cases. Their surge is 7,000 cases a day. We're at around 93,000.

South Korea is taking swift proactive action. As they have done all along whenever there's an increased risk. Guess who's ended up suffering worse? Deaths, mental and physical health impact, economic damage, more and longer lockdowns. Hint. Not them.

theSunday · 19/12/2021 01:13

I’d love to not comply and mix with my family but the decision has been taken away from me,

our Christmas plans have been erased as my family lives abroad and my country has shut the door to arrivals from UK. We could still go with a heck of a lot of hassle but also my Dad has pretty advanced cancer and is mid treatment…. So we won’t be risking it now Sad
