To not be that into hot chocolate

It makes my stomach feel weird even if it’s with oat milk. Loads of threads suggest it for Christmas Eve and someone yesterday was even asking for tips for their H.C ‘station’?!

YABU: It’s winter in a cup
YANBU: Way too rich- yuk

YANBU. I fall in to this trap every so often. It’s never as nice as I want it to be.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 23:44

There does seem a lot of chatter about hot chocolate lately. I mean I quite like the occasional one before bed but not drinking it all day. I can't cope with huge quantities of hot milk and really don't need cream and marshmallows on the top.

DramaAlpaca · 01/12/2021 23:44

It's not for me. Far too sweet.

Getabloominmoveon · 01/12/2021 23:44

I’m with you, but for different reasons. Ok for an ice rink, up a mountain, or if you’re under 12. Otherwise NO. Have a grown-up drink without all that sugar!

galacticpixels · 01/12/2021 23:45

I like it occasionally as my dessert. If I've eaten other sweet foods though I find it too heavy.

AuraBora · 01/12/2021 23:45

I can demolish vast quantities of chocolate but hot chocolate- nope.Sickly sweet and overrated.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 01/12/2021 23:46

I voted YANBU but personally I dont like it at all .
I actually made one today as i always do when it's cold and wintery with a high chocolate content, marshmallows and everything . My now adult sons loved it, now my daughter loves it

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 23:47

People were talking about literally melting a whole chocolate bar into hot milk.

immersivereader · 01/12/2021 23:48

Not worth the cals

5thnonblonde · 01/12/2021 23:49

I can’t tell you how relieved I am to read these responses- I was feeling like a total pariah and wondering how long I could keep my shameful loathing secret from my poor children...

I love hot chocolate but if you get to the point where you have a 'station' then you've failed in life.

Starcup · 01/12/2021 23:52

Well you lot need your taste buds re-wired. Hot chocolate is the bees knees!

Swirlywoo · 01/12/2021 23:54

Me either. I make them for my kids sometimes but I can't even remember when I last had one. Milky or creamy food doesn't sit well with my stomach. Also the reason I don't drink Bailey's.

I don't get why anyone would want cream on top either. Yuck.

I like a cup of tea myself!

TheLeadbetterLife · 01/12/2021 23:55

Yeah it’s rubbish. I like chocolate, but hot chocolate is massively overrated and usually sickly sweet. I don’t mind an old fashioned cup of cocoa now and then.

It tastes ok but I'm not sure I could drink it in the quantities that some on here seem to. I think gallons have to be drunk on Christmas Eve from what i can make out.
HollowTalk · 01/12/2021 23:56

The Green and Blacks hot chocolate is very nice. Not worth building a station for though!

ArrrMeHearties · 01/12/2021 23:57

In partial to hot chocolate now and again in winter and ds likes having it too. He loves mini marshmallows in his

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 23:59

I had some Galaxy hot chocolate sachets that had mini marshmallows in a little packet.
I put them on the top of the drink and they disappeared into it is that what's supposed to happen?

TheLeadbetterLife · 02/12/2021 00:01

What’s a hot chocolate station? Like a train station?

StrawberrySquash · 02/12/2021 00:02

Nah, it's a bit crap. Why have all that milky nonsense when you could eat chocolate?

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2021 00:03

There's a thread somewhere. I think you set up a table with anything that you need to add to the HC, and put mugs out and stuff.
Swirlywoo · 02/12/2021 00:04

Very confused.

Bootsnshoes · 02/12/2021 00:04

Cannot abide the stuff. I like refrigerated chocolate... Adding heat to it is just wrong... I'm in a minority I know but I've never encountered anyone else who didn't like it. Hello my people 😂

Prepare to be a bit WTF. Grin

5thnonblonde · 02/12/2021 00:05

@Sparklingbrook I think that’s what confuses me- lots of people suggesting it’s this integral part of Christmas and something to eagerly anticipate... I don’t ‘like’ some festive foods such as Christmas cake, sherry, cranberry sauce and I don’t eat meat but I can appreciate why others would and what might be so great about that stuff but hot chocolate? Ugh, just seems overrated, cloying, it’s not even hard to make or intrinsically seasonal?! Plus there’s the impression that it’s being necked by the pint- makes me feel queasy...
