To not be that into hot chocolate

It makes my stomach feel weird even if it’s with oat milk. Loads of threads suggest it for Christmas Eve and someone yesterday was even asking for tips for their H.C ‘station’?!

YABU: It’s winter in a cup
YANBU: Way too rich- yuk

YANBU

I don’t drink tea or coffee which always amazes people. I have a hot chocolate two or three times a year at most, it’s nice enough but definitely overrated!

We get a little bottle of courvoisier and add a shot of that. Makes a big difference (although I like hot chocolate anyway).

OhGiveUp · 02/12/2021 13:59

I don't see it as a treat drink, it's just a hot drink like any other.
I can't stand the stuff. Lukewarm watery crap.

BiBabbles · 02/12/2021 14:39

I like it occasionally, more as a dessert than a drink, though I prefer it at home than out and about where not even going to the same place ensures what I'll get (I've had amazing and absolutely vile hot chocolate from the same place). I'm not a big fan of any hot drinks though.

As for slow cooker hot chocolate, I've done that before usually around New Year, but I live with 6 other people so it's more about ease of getting everyone a cup at one time at a suitable temperature when everyone wants to customise theirs differently and I find when using the less sweet options like dark cocoa powder and dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips, it works better to make it that way - cooking for longer at low temp - and I can add in things like vanilla and similar flavourings and don't really need to keep an eye on it.

@Starcup

Well you lot need your taste buds re-wired. Hot chocolate is the bees knees!

I'm always disappointed with hot chocolate because it's always too cold. The whipped cream on top cools it right down defeating the point

Crinkle77 · 02/12/2021 23:15

Hate it and even the smell makes me want to heave. I like chocolate generally but hot chocolate is just too sickly.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 02/12/2021 23:26

Oh my, such hot chocolate hatred! I have a velvetiser and really enjoy having a good quality hot chocolate once or twice a week. It takes up a heck of a lot less space than a coffee machine, but then I’d never have a hot choc ‘station’ as I like clear work surfaces.

I had a lovely chilli hot chocolate earlier after coming in cold from the school run. It was lovely. So there Grin

GTAlogic · 02/12/2021 23:26

I like it and make it every now and again but not daily or even weekly. It's comforting when I've just come in from a long, brisk walk in the cold or when I am feeling a bit crappy but if I had it every day then I'd be the size of a house! I make it properly though with dark & milk chocolate curls whisked in to warmed up milk and single cream with a dash of vanilla paste and some gingerbread flavouring.

YNBAU

Tastes like sugary milky hot water, mostly.

Melts the roof of your mouth.

You have to constantly stir it with a spoon and there’s nowhere to put the spoon so it pokes into your eye.

It says 4 heaped tsps when it’s really 6 heaped tsps.

The aftermath on the rim of the cup is gross.

I do love Spanish hot chocolate, that is well worth the calories!
