AIBU to feel really annoyed after seeing the trailer for Giles Coren’s new series on BBC2

Last year Giles mocked the death of Dawn Foster, a disabled journalist from a working class background, which caused additional distress to her grieving family. He has never apologised. It is possible to cancel your Times subscription or to not buy the newspaper, but we all pay our TV license fee and the idea of it funding the salary of such a spiteful silver spooner and for him to go partying around five star hotels really, really irks me. Why has he faced absolutely no consequences? Why is he still in print and on TV? Piers Morgan was forced to resign for saying he didn’t believe Megan Markle saying she was suicidal. Surely laughing at someone’s premature death and hoping that they go to hell is much worse than that?

Is there some sort of BBC forum I can complain to? I’m not even going to mention his terrible sex scene writing.

I think, on threads like this posters should be mindful to make sure they are only quoting things that GC has definitely posted. Rather than something someone posted second or third or more hand....

I have used the BBC online complaints form to make a complaint that Giles Coren should not be employed by the BBC. As a license fee payer I should have some say as to whether or not this vile man is given airtime.

Certainly OK, if done well. Jokes about such topics rely on the shock value for laughs. It could be argued that people who make racist/sexist/disabling jokes are the sweetest people on earth, since the point of such jokes is the "wrongness" of them. But I digress...

GC isn't funny and can't write. His abusive blitherings are just that- witless, humourless and tedious.

Totally agree with this. I love Theodore Dalrymple, but I suspect if I met Anthony Daniels he'd just be a nice, normal man and not some fulminating, stick-waving grump, his every utterance dripping with erudite crochetiness.

I read only for entertainment and don't care about the views of writers at all. GC could be president of the royal society for puppy-kicking and vuvuzuela-player and I wouldn't care, if only he didn't bore me stupid.

I didn't mind when he was boring. Let's face it, he's easy to bypass. I do mind when my £2.80 (3-5 papers a week) was paying to excuse him to make excuses for him being a complete dick.

I am going to complain about Giles Coren being on the BBC every time Amazing Hotels is on TV.

There is a really active and interesting thread on Tattle about this in which one of the posters questions to what extent Giles Coren’s wife Esther Walker is complicit in his dreadful behaviour - they have a joint podcast and she seems to frame herself as a professional Mrs Giles Coren, which I imagine must be an increasingly toxic wagon to have hitched herself to. They posted some screen grabs of her promoting the article he wrote fat shaming their son and also discussing the fact that he was writing about their children in a sexual way, which she seemed to think was hilarious.

It's totally ironic that the same people complaining about cancel culture being a scourge and accusing a Mumsnet thread of being a lynch mob, are at the same time trying to shut down any sort of debate about Giles' immoral and spiteful behaviour towards Dawn Foster.
