To ask why a man may have a single long fingernail?

Is there a thing to do with having a single long fingernail as a man?

I just caught a glimpse and didn't want to stare but looked like all nails cut down except from nail on little finger.

It was disproportionately long compared to the cut ones too so not like it had just grown quicker than the others.

Grossed me out what is this?

Feckin' weird, whatever it is. How does he scratch his balls without snagging them on it is what I want to know?

I play the guitar and mainly finger pick on acoustic. I confirm having a pinkie as the only long nail has nothing to do with the guitar. If anything many guitar pickers don't use the pinkie, and some will keep that short but have the rest of them long on the plucking hand.

I noticed that a lot of men in SE Asia had this one long finger nail. I thought it was to do with cleaning your arse after a shit - when you are from a culture who don't use loo roll!!!

There was a guy at school who had one because he had a beautiful Afro it it meant he could scratch his head without squashing it. Well that's what he told me.

I used to date a Maltese mam, his dad had a long pinkie fingernail too. Neither did coke or tried to insert it into my bottom.

My chaps 62, we live in a big standard town in Lancashire and not in a hot bed of coke activity.

He has a long (by long I mean I can see a bit of growth just over the tip of his finger) nail on a pinky.

It’s just something he’s always done. Ear wriggling. Ear wax collecting. Belly button poking. Itches and scratches. Tooth picking. All manner of vile manly things are done. Not noticed his coke habit yet or him sticking it or anything up his bum. Shrug*

To each their own and all that. Honestly as long as it’s clean what the dickens has it got to do with us? There would be uproar if a man ripped apart a woman deciding to go against the grain with body habits.

Growing up, my Greek stepdad used to keep one of his pinky finger nails long (he didn't play guitar). I asked him why, I was about 10 at the time, he told me it was to pick his nose ..... Really charming man!

Calm down - this is such a funny reaction!! You have no idea of my culture! Why are you being so defensive about those that use water and hands to clean themselves? Do you have a problem with it? Seems like it worries you?

I am more aware than you that its common place to use water to clean yourself - this is common across way more than one culture.

Why is it upsetting you that I have suggested that someone could use water and nail to clean themselves than water and fingers. Nails V Fingers???

That's a bit odd, if it was his thumb, I would say he plays guitar. Sounds odd, but a guy I use to work with, had his thumb nail longer than his others, I had to ask and he said he played the guitar, so his nail was like a pick.
