To ask why a man may have a single long fingernail?

Is there a thing to do with having a single long fingernail as a man?

I just caught a glimpse and didn't want to stare but looked like all nails cut down except from nail on little finger.

It was disproportionately long compared to the cut ones too so not like it had just grown quicker than the others.

Grossed me out what is this?

If its a thumb nail it my be for rolling cigarettes or spliffs

Okay, I know this is unheard of on MN, but I’m going to say, unprompted, that I might be wrong.

I’ve played guitar for decades, and I’ve never seen a guitarist with only one long nail, on the pinky finger of their picking hand. But as it’s been suggested here so many times, I did a bit of research - and apparently some flamenco players swear by it.

So if the guy also wears a lot of ruffly sleeves and very tight trousers, that might be it.

Same. The side of his nail hits the string as he plays. He gets annoyed if it breaks and he has to file it down.

Does his name start with a T? I know a guy who has an online female persona. He keeps his pinkie nail long and 'she' frequently will show only the side of her hand (with one manicured sometimes painted nail) on a drink, or a mouse or a dated document but nothing else due to "online weirdos" lol. Biggest online weirdos I know as well.

I had a few artist friends who had a long little nail to enable them to paint without their hand touching the canvas. They sort of used to rest their hand on the edge of the page with their little finger nail as the touch point.

Now this could make sense as my grandpa was in Burma during the war for about 8 years. I wonder if this is why he always had it. Although now I'm concerned he was a closet snob!

Depends who it was on - the guy who does my nails has a long fingernail which he uses as a tool during the process.

A friend of mine used to live in HK and said that one long nail on a man is for digging deeply while nose picking.
