... if you've every learned something totally surprising about a close friend?

This is no biggie, just something very surprising for me.

I've a very close friend that I'd known for 10+ years, we met through work several years ago. A few weeks ago I was helping her move/unpack to a lovely new house, and staying there for the weekend.

The house had a piano. I was amazed to discover that she is an incredible pianist. Really really amazing! She says she was somewhat of a prodigy when young, but lost interest and motivation in teen years, and is just re-connecting with it as a hobby.

Sadly, if I was that good at something I'd have let everyone know :(

I’d known my good friend for 5+ years when he happened to mentioned that he’s a twin. He’d never mentioned it before in all that time and for some reason it really took me by surprise. He somehow doesn’t seem like a twin and even I’m not sure what I mean by that!

My late brother was a twin, he'd been in the army for ages and I hadn't seen him in about 8 years.
He sadly died and me, DM and DB (tw) flew out for the funeral.
Turns out people knew he had a brother but not a twin brother.
Walking around camp, squaddies going white all over, one lad passed out.
My bro was a funny jokey, loved man. He would have pissed himself laughing 🥰

My DH’s grandfather was Russian. My DH didn’t find out until a few years ago. His grandfather left his grandmother with 3 young children and she quickly married again. Her new husband adopted the children as his own.
In fact we suspect that she was never actually married to the Russian grandfather. They lived in France and she returned to the U.K. when he abandoned her.
I would like to discover more, DH isn’t that interested.
