To be really upset because Dp accidentally put mayonnaise in my hair

Dressed for the day, make-up on, just made lunch for us all. Kids still eating and dp brings his plate up. We have a little banter and he proceeds to hold his plate above my head with a globule of Mayo still present.

He's joking obviously and I smile but then tell him to stop and move away.

He doesn't and proceeds to follow me with said plate above head. Then Lo and behold the Mayo drops onto my hair and dp is absolutely shocked.

I get upset as it now means I have to wash hair redo makeup etc... and I also have to do the other bits I had planned for the day. I realise it wasn't intentional and that he genuinely was thought it was funny but I can't help but think he's a complete idiot who should have known what would happen. I also don't think it's the least bit funny regardless of whether the Mayo had dropped or not.

So ianbu to feel upset, annoyed and to wish to stay clear of him for the rest of the day?

Or

Iambu and should get over it. It was a joke that went wrong, no harm done and Walking around smelling of hellmans is not the end of the world?

Yanbu not sure why you're asking, it sounds like a dick move

NannyR · 13/11/2021 14:51

He does sound a bit childish, but I wouldn't turn it into a big drama lasting all day, just wipe it off and carry on with your day.

Pippi1970 · 13/11/2021 14:53

I'd be irritated and it sounds childish but I'd have just wiped it off tbh.

TwinklyBranch · 13/11/2021 14:53

You don't have to wash your hair and redo your make up, you are choosing too. Personally I would just dab the mayo off and get on with my day.

BudrosBudrosGalli · 13/11/2021 14:53

He should pay for you to get your hair washed at a salon and for a make-up artist as a way of a proper apology. Maybe then he will think twice before doing stupid 'jokes'...

TwinklyBranch · 13/11/2021 14:53

to not too.

Heruka · 13/11/2021 14:55

Yes sounds annoying but just wipe and get on with life!

NerrSnerr · 13/11/2021 14:55

It was daft if him but rewashing hair etc is an over reaction. As others have said, just wipe it off and get on with it. It's not worth ruining your day over.

AveryGoodlay · 13/11/2021 14:56

What are you planning on doing? Do you have to do it at a certain time or dress up for it? If it's just errands can you not wear make up?

I'd just wash and dry my hair and tie it up. Id also laugh it off but we're a very jokey household including practical jokes but the key thing is that's mine and my partners personalities. With everything I've gone through a good sense of humour and crucially similar senses of humour is a key factor I looked for in a partner.

Teeturtle · 13/11/2021 14:56

I can’t imagine holding a plate off DH’s head or vice versa, so that is a bit odd. But you have over reacted, I would wipe it off and wet my hair slightly if need be. Certainly no need to wash hair completely or redo makeup.

mrsbyers · 13/11/2021 14:57

I’d just wipe it off and tie hair up

SameToo · 13/11/2021 14:58

If anyone held a plate upturned over my head I’d be furious. It’s beyond childish and not remotely funny.

gannett · 13/11/2021 14:58

I would be annoyed for a few minutes but how in the world is this worthy of seething at length on the internet about? Roll your eyes, wipe it off, move on.

ComDummings · 13/11/2021 14:58

What a stupid prick, how old is he? So childish.

SoniaFouler · 13/11/2021 14:58

It’s annoying and childish and I wouldn’t find it funny either but you’re purposely making a bigger deal out of it than it needs to be. You do not need to wash your hair and redo your make-up for a “globule” of mayonnaise on your hair.

Greenmarmalade · 13/11/2021 15:00

Far better to have banter and jokes that a deadly serious relationship with sulking if a joke goes wrong. Be pissed off for a few minutes. Then get over it.

dottiedodah · 13/11/2021 15:00

Seems a bit of a silly thing to do .I would not be too worried .maybe just clean it up with a tissue ,some dry shampoo perhaps ? Hopefully he wont do it any more!

ImUninsultable · 13/11/2021 15:02

Why do you need to washed and re-do your make up?
Just wipe it.

He didnt get the tube and squeeze it all over your hair. It's a drop of mayo. Wipe it off and get on with your life. Is it not exhausting being so bloody dramatic?

stingofthebutterfly · 13/11/2021 15:03

I really couldn't be irritated by this. I'd tell him he was a fucking idiot, go and rinse my hair, and forget about it.

IncompleteSenten · 13/11/2021 15:03

I would assume he meant for it to fall on your head. Why else hold it over your head until it dropped? It would have been completely obvious it was dropping off, there would have been time for him to pull the plate away.
Yes, it was a 'joke' 🙄 but the 'joke' was not pretend to. It was actually to. Just my opinion though. I wasn't there of course. What did he think was going to happen what with gravity and all?

ISpyCobraKai · 13/11/2021 15:05

Its daft and annoying but that's all.
You also don't need to rewash your hair or redo your make up, don't be daft.
This is such a forgettable nothing.

Isolateykatey · 13/11/2021 15:06

He was annoying.

Washing hair and redoing makeup is ridiculous though. Just wipe it off.

DahliaMacNamara · 13/11/2021 15:09

It depends on:
what your plans for the day are
how long it will take to fix
how often you'd normally wash your hair
FWIW, my DH knows on pain of death, or at least a very very annoyed wife, not to fuck around near my hair. If OP can wipe off the mayo and get on with the day, no problem. If OP has just spent 40 minutes getting her hair right, no wonder she's seething.

Thwackit · 13/11/2021 15:09

It’s a bit annoying yes, but if it’s a blob of mayonnaise that fell off a plate it can’t have covered your entire head like a clown’s cream pie would. I’d just isolate the bit of hair where the mayo went and rinse it off! Why wash and dry all of your hair and redo your makeup?

Aquamarine1029 · 13/11/2021 15:10

I have zero tolerance for immature shit like this. It's very unattractive.
