To be really upset because Dp accidentally put mayonnaise in my hair

naggynora · 13/11/2021 14:49

Dressed for the day, make-up on, just made lunch for us all. Kids still eating and dp brings his plate up. We have a little banter and he proceeds to hold his plate above my head with a globule of Mayo still present.

He's joking obviously and I smile but then tell him to stop and move away.

He doesn't and proceeds to follow me with said plate above head. Then Lo and behold the Mayo drops onto my hair and dp is absolutely shocked.

I get upset as it now means I have to wash hair redo makeup etc... and I also have to do the other bits I had planned for the day. I realise it wasn't intentional and that he genuinely was thought it was funny but I can't help but think he's a complete idiot who should have known what would happen. I also don't think it's the least bit funny regardless of whether the Mayo had dropped or not.

So ianbu to feel upset, annoyed and to wish to stay clear of him for the rest of the day?

Or

Iambu and should get over it. It was a joke that went wrong, no harm done and Walking around smelling of hellmans is not the end of the world?

@Heruka

Yes sounds annoying but just wipe and get on with life!
This
Ailsa2021 · 13/11/2021 17:08

@ImUninsultable

Why do you need to washed and re-do your make up? Just wipe it.

He didnt get the tube and squeeze it all over your hair. It's a drop of mayo. Wipe it off and get on with your life. Is it not exhausting being so bloody dramatic?

This × 100. Such a dramatic reaction over a bit of mayo. You must be an absolute joy to be around. 😐
BlusteringBoobies · 13/11/2021 17:10

@naggynora
I still have Mayo on my head, but hey ho!

Don't you mean hey ho may-ho....!

nocoolnamesleft · 13/11/2021 17:11

In what way is that accidental? He was acting like an arsehole.

Wildheartsease · 13/11/2021 17:16

A stupid 'joke' on his part... so not a completely unavoidable accident.

I expect he said 'sorry' - but this is just a word unless he is going to make up for the stupidity.

Certainly, at the very least, he owes you time (taken to repair the damage) and this is precious at weekends.

TheFutureIsUncertain · 13/11/2021 17:17

I think YANBU to be annoyed. I would be, but honestly if it were a complete accident and out of character I'd move on pretty quickly.

On the positive side, at least you noticed it :) I was thinking back to the Cameron Diaz scene in something about Mary (where she has, in the movie, Ben Stiller cum in hair) ...

lazylinguist · 13/11/2021 17:20

I would have found it very irritating that he didn't stop when told to, but I certainly wouldn't have considered re-washing my hair and re-doing my make-up because of it! Wipe with kitchen roll, which is very good at absorbing grease. Maybe dot a tiny bit of soap or shampoo and wipe with a damp flannel if I were actually going out somewhere. I don't think that even counts as particularly low maintenance, so I'm definitely not virtue-signalling!

GreyhoundG1rl · 13/11/2021 17:21

How much was there?! You make it sound like it covered your entire head; having to wash your hair and re do your makeup Confused
Stop dramatising.

BashfulClam · 13/11/2021 17:22

I’ve washed my hair loads of times without needing to fully redo my make up. i think you are making extra work for yourself there.

Pedalpushers · 13/11/2021 17:26

I hear mayo is good for hair.

naggynora · 13/11/2021 17:26

@Ailsa2021 You sound like a fun person too. I think we'd get on!

It was a 50p sized globule of Mayo I'd say. Hellmans and definitely not the lighter versionSmile. The annoyance stems from my twat of a partner being surprised that it fell on my head, impacting on my day negatively due to clean up time, no matter how insignificant and that If I've made an effort to be semi presentable, do I not have the right to be pissed if someone comes along and messes with that 'for laughs'?

CecilieRose · 13/11/2021 17:28

I would be really irritated. My hair is super long and thick, so I only wash it once or twice a week and spend ages blow drying it properly so it lasts. I'd be so annoyed if I'd just washed it and some idiot trying to be funny dripped mayo on it.

I can't stand stupid people and I can't stand people who are unable to see what's inevitably about to happen. I can imagine the DH's stupid gormless expression as he was just so shocked that mayo fell off a plate he was carelessly holding over someone's head. I would be really irritated and I would let him know. I don't see why we always have to pretend we're not annoyed by such rubbish.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/11/2021 17:34

I'd have been pretty annoyed - I've got longish straight hair, a glob of mayo would make it horribly greasy and lank. On the rare occasions in the past when I've accidentally got a bit of oil on it I wouldn't just have to shampoo it, I'd probably have to wash it with Fairy liquid to get the grease out.

Fortunately my DH isn't an idiot and has some understanding of physical properties.Grin

Anotherselfemployedcleaner · 13/11/2021 17:37

Just plot your revenge … he thought it was funny, I’m sure you’ll find something equally funny to do to him! I say this, as my late DH and I really did play practical jokes on each other all the time … he once replaced my hair conditioner with mayo (which I did laugh about later, but wasn’t very funny at the time as I was washing my hair prior to having to leave at 4am for a long commute). I responded later with a rubber snake behind his sun visor on the morning he was leaving for France just at sunrise for a fishing trip, and can still hear the girly screams echoing from his car as he drove away now … Grin

CruCru · 13/11/2021 17:39

When I first read this, I hadn’t realised that he’d held his plate upside down over your head. Yeah, that would piss me off - even if you hadn’t asked him to stop.

Whether or not the OP absolutely had to rewash her hair and redo her make up isn’t really relevant. She wanted to be presentable and this dude meant that she felt that she wasn’t.

I think this is one of those times when it’s important not to just laugh it off. It was immature and irritating - say so.

Receptionclass · 13/11/2021 17:41

DP and I never do things like this to each other, I'd be furious. It's only acceptable if the dynamic of your relationship is to for both if you to regularly play and enjoy practical jokes on each other.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 13/11/2021 17:42

Bemoaning the actions of a childish tit does not make it a joyless relationship.

She said to stop and he didn’t. Because he thought the inevitable outcome would be funny. Just him.

To quote Alan Partridge, it is the actions of a dosser and a dwad.

irene9 · 13/11/2021 17:42

When you ask someone to stop teasing you and they don't stop, that's bullying is it not? They are enjoying your distress for their own sense of control over you.

MasterBeth · 13/11/2021 17:43

It’s annoying - - - and you should get over it.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 13/11/2021 17:47

OMG drama llama much?

naggynora · 13/11/2021 17:58

@CecilieRose I have what sounds like a similar hair type to you. Very thick and long. Washing it is an ordeal!

To those bemoaning the dramatic element of this post- what would be considered appropriate drama to post out of interest?

OP posts:
CrocodilesCry · 13/11/2021 17:58

This thread is totally weird. You've said you didn't wash your hair in the end anyway (so you didn't have to redo your makeup) so why the dramatics?
Your DP sounds like a knob but the whinging about redoing your hair and makeup is just odd considering you didn't in the end?

naggynora · 13/11/2021 17:59

Mixed responses and a good few who would feel the rage too

OP posts:
Kathylakey99 · 13/11/2021 18:08

True

OakPine · 13/11/2021 18:12

It wasn't an "accident"
He did it deliberately. You told him to stop and he didn't.

Is he 14?
