To be really upset because Dp accidentally put mayonnaise in my hair

naggynora · 13/11/2021 14:49

Dressed for the day, make-up on, just made lunch for us all. Kids still eating and dp brings his plate up. We have a little banter and he proceeds to hold his plate above my head with a globule of Mayo still present.

He's joking obviously and I smile but then tell him to stop and move away.

He doesn't and proceeds to follow me with said plate above head. Then Lo and behold the Mayo drops onto my hair and dp is absolutely shocked.

I get upset as it now means I have to wash hair redo makeup etc... and I also have to do the other bits I had planned for the day. I realise it wasn't intentional and that he genuinely was thought it was funny but I can't help but think he's a complete idiot who should have known what would happen. I also don't think it's the least bit funny regardless of whether the Mayo had dropped or not.

So ianbu to feel upset, annoyed and to wish to stay clear of him for the rest of the day?

Or

Iambu and should get over it. It was a joke that went wrong, no harm done and Walking around smelling of hellmans is not the end of the world?

This bit would have me re-considering the relationship entirely. I don't give a fuck what the situation was - but you told him to stop and he didn't and continued.

When I tell people to stop doing something to me I expect them to stop. The mayo bit is childish and annoying, but I would have red flags over the fact that you told him to stop and he didn't.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 13/11/2021 15:48

Um I dont think this was a 'joke' to be honest. I think a 5 year old would know not to be shocked if something falls off a plate when you're holding it upside down.

Ans I'd have to wash my hair again, its fine and gets greasy and would be really noticeable. I would have tried dry shampoo first though

Feedingthebirds1 · 13/11/2021 15:49

You told him to stop and he didn't. That would be the bit that got me.

Naughtynovembertree · 13/11/2021 15:49

I thought it was an accident but clearly not. He sounds painful and immature.

2020nymph · 13/11/2021 15:51

@Nanny0gg

How can you just wipe it off?

The OP has a lovely greasy patch on her hair. And if you have to wash your hair your makeup comes off.

I wouldn't be at all happy with the eejit

Don't get why this is so difficult to understand!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 13/11/2021 15:55

Sounds like the sort of thing that would happen in my house tbh. I'd find it funny

vajingleberry · 13/11/2021 15:58

How can you just wipe it off?

OP described it as a globule. That is a small drop.

Get cloth, wipe globule off, done.

It's not like he squirted an entire bottle of Hellmans over her.

rainbowmash · 13/11/2021 16:01

Amazed that people think oily, protein-y mayo will respond to "a quick wipe". Even more amazed about the permissive "boys will be boys, lol, you're overreacting" attitude to this horrid behaviour.

Sounds like another MN "I'm so low maintenance!" virtue signal parade to me.

Journeynotdestination · 13/11/2021 16:04

This would give me instant ick

Cosyblankets · 13/11/2021 16:08

Yes it's annoying but total over reaction on your part with regard to washing your hair and doing your make up!
As much an over reaction as posting it on here!

TheOccupier · 13/11/2021 16:09

YANBU and I'd definitely be rewashing my hair. Your DP sounds like an absolute dick. Why do men find this sort of thing funny? Head out to a salon for a blowdry and leave him with the children.

Clarefromwork · 13/11/2021 16:11

I’m coming at this from a different angle but I prefer Heinz mayonnaise to Hellmans now.

WhereYouLeftIt · 13/11/2021 16:14

"I realise it wasn't intentional"
Wasn't it?

What is the result of his action? He's changed your plans. That could have been his intention.

Tal45 · 13/11/2021 16:18

Get some dry kitchen roll to get the worst off and then wet after. Not really the end of the world and I certainly wouldn't rewash my hair. Mind you I went to the doctors with mashed banana in mine the other day.

Voord · 13/11/2021 16:22

Why do you need to redo hair and make-up? Just wipe it off and crack on with your day.

Shedmistress · 13/11/2021 16:22

I'm as low maintenance as you can get, but even I'd wash my hair after that. Not that my OH would hold mayo ridden plates over my head and follow me round with it. Because he is an adult and not a twat.

theDudesmummy · 13/11/2021 16:25

Mayonnnaise is actually a really good hair mask for dry hair (misses point of thread).

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 13/11/2021 16:25

It's annoying - but not enough to redo all hair and makeup and then post on internet Grin

Lucyinthesky07 · 13/11/2021 16:27

I can understand you being annoyed, but I'd happily take it after the day I have had.

AmyDudley · 13/11/2021 16:27

For the purposes of going out I'd just wipe it off and/or wear a hat,
Be thankful you don't live in a coastal town - seagull shit in the hair is a constant danger.

your DH sounds like a bit of a tool but he's not in "LTB, he's a control freak, read Lundy Bancroft" territory. Unless garnishing you with condiments is an everyday occurrence. In which case you should run away and hope he can't ketchup. Wink

StaplesCorner · 13/11/2021 16:32

So is there more to this? Is he generally a prick?

Brefugee · 13/11/2021 16:33

i have short hair and I'd absolutely have had to wash it out, even so it feels horrible having greasy blobs in your hair so i don't get the "wipe it off and get on with it" brigade.

I'd have made him do the things I'd been planning to do in the time i was redoing my hair.

It's not funny, really, but mine wouldn't have gone so far because - he's not a twat

HollowTalk · 13/11/2021 16:34

@Aquamarine1029

I have zero tolerance for immature shit like this. It's very unattractive.
Me too.
DoNotGetADog · 13/11/2021 16:35

@Shedmistress

You’re obviously not as low maintenance as you can get then, as plenty of people, including me, would just wipe it off and get over it!
PieMistee · 13/11/2021 16:35

I think you both would irritate me if I was with you. Him for being an annoying childish prick and you for being a melodramatic drama llama.
