To think a clean front door is important.

Pointless & lightheaded post.

Live rurally, in a very open area with high winds. Have loads of mud and dirt blow into front door, have a very large tree outside and leaves & other dirt blow off into the door. Also share a step with neighbour who has 5 very large dogs who often shake themselves right by the door (I don't mind, we have a dog too). So yeah our front door gets pretty grimy.

Therefore I clean it every month or so. Maybe more this time of year with a bucket of water and the hose. It goes get dirty in between so never stays spotless.

Dp thinks I'm mad. Aibu to to think not having a filthy front door is important? I mean it's the very first thing someone sees about your house really.

It's pvc so easy to clean!

Doesn't take 5 minutes reallt. He thinks I'm wasting my time as it'll be dirty again soon. But surely that's the whole point - keeping on top of it.

Probably the most boring post on mumsnet today. But I don't want a filthy front door!

Aibu?

I'm sure if Dp lived here alone or I didn't do it, it would never get cleaned!

PandoraP · 09/11/2021 09:57

I have never cleaned my front door either

MyGrassIsBrowner · 09/11/2021 09:58

Our window cleaner does ours!

@MyGrassIsBrowner

Our window cleaner does ours!
Our winter cleaner hasn't turned up for months and they never did the door! Need to find another one I think!

Yes. I clean mine op! And I notice other people’s as well, dirty bastards!

rainbowandglitter · 09/11/2021 09:59

I live rurally and have never cleaned my front door. Never entered my head to.

SleighBells21 · 09/11/2021 10:00

Window does mine aswell

statetrooperstacey · 09/11/2021 10:01

Especially when you see a minging front door and it has fingerprints near the handle and a kind of smear where their hands and coat sleeves have rubbed the dirt off.

ReginaaPhalange · 09/11/2021 10:01

I clean mine every month, especially the door handles and doorbell... done that pre-covid! You'd be surprised how minging they get too!!

Bagelsandbrie · 09/11/2021 10:01

Yeah I clean ours. It is pointless but then all cleaning is pointless. Grin

glitterelf · 09/11/2021 10:02

I clean mine a lot more lately as I'm a childminder and have littlies knocking the door daily so probably once a week a deep scrub and then twice daily with antibac spray.

LolaSmiles · 09/11/2021 10:02

Our window cleaner does ours when he is round, but I don't do anything in between.

I've never seen any of my neighbours clean there's 😅 I probably look like the mad woman of the road! One time loads of leaves and dirt blown into the door - it was dry so when I finished vacuuming my car I gave the door a quick vacuum with my Henry 😅😅

@usernumberno46273 I live on a main road and near an industrial estate, so our windows/doors get absolutely filthy! Ours does the front door AND he also scrapes the moss off our sunroom roof!
Definitely get yourself a new one! 😅

statetrooperstacey · 09/11/2021 10:02

Also see dirty bagged up nappies that people leave by their front door , often right next to their wheelie bin, Confused filthy heathens. Loads of people do this!!!

Nutsabouttopic · 09/11/2021 10:03

I live rurally too with four children and two dogs. I didn't realise until we moved to the countryside how much dirtier doors and windows get than in the city. I clean my front and back door on a regular basis. Like you I think first impressions count and I like my door to be clean for friends and family coming through.

Iggly · 09/11/2021 10:03

I do clean ours every few months or so when I remember. Tried to do monthly but forget. It is quick! And looks so much nicer for it

Molehillfromamountain · 09/11/2021 10:03

We live rurally too and I clean my front door and step about once a month.
I have also been known to hoover the open porch with my Henry hoover Blush

usernumberno46273 · 09/11/2021 10:03

Our windows surprisingly don't get too bad. We did have a regular window cleaner but he's not been for a long time! Don't think he was very reliable!

Glad it's not just me then!

Yes I do every so often. Takes a few minutes with a damp cloth. I also have a long feather duster just for the outside of the house. About once a year I go round getting cobwebs off the porch and window ledges.

sbhydrogen · 09/11/2021 10:04

YANBU! I clean mine about every 6-8 weeks. I brush away leaves and clean the (really) dirty tiles. First impressions are so important.

HelloChompy · 09/11/2021 10:05

Having always had large dogs I know exactly how your door must end up looking! I'm probably considered pretty slatternly by mumsnet standards but I do, once in a blue moon, clean my front door - nowhere near once a month though 😁

EnidFrighten · 09/11/2021 10:05

I never clean mine but if I had a white PVC one that regularly got sprayed with mud, maybe I would!

Edinvillian · 09/11/2021 10:06

My granda frequently tells me that my granny cleaned their step at least once every week. Now, I clean my step when my granda is visiting 😂 but that's only a couple of times a year.
My window cleaner cleans the door.
