To think a clean front door is important.

Pointless & lightheaded post.

Live rurally, in a very open area with high winds. Have loads of mud and dirt blow into front door, have a very large tree outside and leaves & other dirt blow off into the door. Also share a step with neighbour who has 5 very large dogs who often shake themselves right by the door (I don't mind, we have a dog too). So yeah our front door gets pretty grimy.

Therefore I clean it every month or so. Maybe more this time of year with a bucket of water and the hose. It goes get dirty in between so never stays spotless.

Dp thinks I'm mad. Aibu to to think not having a filthy front door is important? I mean it's the very first thing someone sees about your house really.

It's pvc so easy to clean!

Doesn't take 5 minutes reallt. He thinks I'm wasting my time as it'll be dirty again soon. But surely that's the whole point - keeping on top of it.

Probably the most boring post on mumsnet today. But I don't want a filthy front door!

Aibu?

I'm sure if Dp lived here alone or I didn't do it, it would never get cleaned!

I have a white PVC door, I have a special cleaner to make it look new again. I did go through a phase of cleaning it but it seemed pointless. But I live next to the sea, so its usually covered in sea salt. There is a waterfall outside my front door, when the wind blows, which is often in the winter months because I live on a cliff top. The waterfall hits my front door and washes away the salt. Thats all the cleaning it gets now. I may give it a proper clean today after this thread.

I acknowledge that my red painted door looks a lot more appealing when not filthy. But that doesn't motivate me to clean it much. Maybe a couple of times a year during a general hosing down of the facade for dust and cobwebs.

I clean mine and all the windows monthly. Who wants a mucky front door and windows!

I don't live rurally, however I try to make an effort to keep the front of the house / driveway tidy. As it just gives a good impression.
I do walk past some people's front gardens / doors and wonder how untidy the inside of their houses may be.
The front of the house is the first impression you get of someone's home and instantly gives you an impression of the people who live inside.

Our door is white painted timber with a picture window in it and a stained glass fanlight over the top. The window cleaners wash the door windows and the door gets a rinse from that. It doesn't really need it monthly. There's a porch in front which gets cobwebby and leaves/seeds at this time of year so I clean that every so often.

Previous house was on a busy road with frequent buses and the door and front windows got really really grimy from that. If you swiped a finger across the paintwork you got a black finger, it was gross.

We get more autumn leaves piling up where we live now, but I don't mind that as the air quality is obviously a LOT better. (And I gather up the leaves to make leafmould for the garden, so win-win.)

I clean mine weekly when I do the windows.
I sweep and mop the step then change the towel wrapped over the outside doormat twice per week. ( Towel wrapped doormat is a thing in my home country )
