Sausage! (Also Scottish)

HalloHello · 06/11/2021 17:33

Can't vote but steak only! I'm from NE Scotland but husband from East Lothian and he says sausage 🤢🤢🤢🤢

BoredPandas · 06/11/2021 17:34

You HAVE to have sausages in a steak pie. Who eats steak pie with just steak? 😂

Hiphopopotamus · 06/11/2021 17:35

You’re going to get a lot of confusion from the non Scots here! (Not Scottish myself but did spend a few years living in Glasgow)

Sirzy · 06/11/2021 17:35

I have never heard of sausage in a steak pie.

OhMyfanwy · 06/11/2021 17:35

I've never heard of sausage in a steak pie before. What kind of sausage?

ISpyCobraKai · 06/11/2021 17:36

I always start this thread just before Hogmanay.
Steak and link obviously!
(Links are sausages for anyone confused)
I have to make an extra one now since DD moved out two years ago, she can't make it, or even learn to make it, she can't buy it, it must be my homemade pie Grin

nancywhisky · 06/11/2021 17:36

You need one sausage per person.
Steak sausage, not pork.

Link sausage.
Ponoka7 · 06/11/2021 17:37

We like steak pies with a sausage on the side. For me pork isn't a strong enough meat to have in a hot pie.

SirChenjins · 06/11/2021 17:37

Sausage (also Scottish) - but it has to be those Wee Willy Winky beauts with about 0.01% meat. Delicious!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 06/11/2021 17:38

Sausage has never been in any steak pie I have eaten

AgentJohnson · 06/11/2021 17:39

I love a sausage but a sausage in a steak pie would be unexpected (and therefore discombobulating) for me.

Dam you OP! I fancy a steak pie now. I live in the Netherlands and steak pies are hard to come by if your not making it yourself.

Thomasina79 · 06/11/2021 17:40

This won’t be popular, but I like a small piece of kidney in my steak pie. Can’t seem to get hold of it for some reason. Never used sausage though!

nancywhisky · 06/11/2021 17:41

The sausage isnt put in whole - it's chopped up so it blends in with the pieces of steak.

Links steak sausage.

Hockeyboysmum · 06/11/2021 17:42

Def sausage - scottish too

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/11/2021 17:42

I have never heard of sausages in a steak pie, but DD would love it. Do you put them in whole or chopped up?

RaisedByPangolins · 06/11/2021 17:43

WTF? Now I need to visit Scotland.

Pishybreeks · 06/11/2021 17:44

Beef links to bulk it out, a bit allspice, my happy place.
The real question is, puff pastry on bottom and top or just on top?

Sirzy · 06/11/2021 17:44

Does it originate from a place of bulking up the pie with a cheaper meat? I’m intrigued by the idea!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/11/2021 17:45

Steak, no sausage for me - but I would probably add bacon lardons and mushrooms. And I’d casserole the beef in red wine to make the filling for the pie.

doorornottodoor · 06/11/2021 17:45

I’m Scottish and have never heard of sausage in a steak pie!!!

GrandTheftWalrus · 06/11/2021 17:45

A proper steak pie from the butchers has sausage in it. Yum yum.

I'm Scottish as well.

DigOlBick · 06/11/2021 17:45

Sausage in a steak pie? No thank you.
