It's delicious, if you haven't tried it, you must.

doorornottodoor · 06/11/2021 17:50

I’ve never seen that in a butchers here in Scotland . I tend to buy steak pies rather than make them…

Oblomov21 · 06/11/2021 17:51

Sausage in steak pie is a new one on me!

Really? All the steak pies my mum got from the butchers had sausage in them. And normally for 1st January.
amazeandastonish · 06/11/2021 17:52

I'm the type of Scot who believes steak pie should be steak only and I get the rage when I order it in a restaurant and its got links in it

My MIL always puts sausage in her home made pie Angry

And I've never heard of the pastry being anywhere but on top?

We were having our boxing day dinner plan discussion today. Always steak pie but how good it is depends on which set of parents we are visiting. This year its my mum - yay!

I am as Scottish as Scottish can be and I would NEVER put sausages in a steak pie.

Sausage and veg pie is something separate, and tasty on its own.

Tricked2003 · 06/11/2021 17:53

I've learnt something today!!! I had never heard of sausage in a steak pie until this thread. (not Scottish)

TallTrees78 · 06/11/2021 18:00

I'm Scottish too but also never heard of sausage in steak pie!

lazylinguist · 06/11/2021 18:00

I've never heard of sausage in steak pie. Presumably it's to make it cheaper to make by putting less steak in it?

doorornottodoor · 06/11/2021 18:04

@GrandTheftWalrus whereabouts was that? Maybe it’s a regional thing?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 06/11/2021 18:05

Not Scottish but seriously contemplating moving there Grin

ItIsMyName · 06/11/2021 18:05

Steak pie is our New Year dinner - with beef sausage! (Scottish).

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 06/11/2021 18:06

Proper steak pie from the butchers have beef sausages in them, English steak pie is a mix of all steak or steak and kidney Biscuit

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 06/11/2021 18:06

There was a good article in the Guardian today about all the COP26 delegates trying to figure out Irn Bru, btw.

StrapOnSallyChasedMeDownTheAli · 06/11/2021 18:09

A steak pie is made with steak, surely? A sausage ain't no steak. However, I once had a steak and haggis pie, now that was a revelation 👌 Anyway, tomorrow is Sunday and you know what that means fellow Scots? STEAK PIE DAY 🎉

GrandTheftWalrus · 06/11/2021 18:09

@doorornottodoor just outside Glasgow. Asked my friend from Edinburgh and she'd never heard of sausages in a steak pie.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/11/2021 18:13

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit

Sausage has never been in any steak pie I have eaten
Nor me and both my parents are from Greenock and I still have steak pie on NYD (sausageless).
Lyricallie · 06/11/2021 18:16

Definitely sausage, proper beef ones from the butcher's. Also Scottish and we always have it on Hogmanay/New year's Day.

doorornottodoor · 06/11/2021 18:18

@GrandTheftWalrus maybe a West coast thing? I’m east coast and this is literally the first time I’ve heard of it! Grin

Lincslady53 · 06/11/2021 18:20

Is the pie deep fried?

nancywhisky · 06/11/2021 18:23

@Lincslady53

Is the pie deep fried?
No, not steak spie! You're thinking of pizza!
maggiecate · 06/11/2021 18:27

Moving to Lanarkshire from East Lothian I was somewhat discombobulated when faced with sausage in the steak pie, but was quickly convinced of the merits. I think it is probably once of those Scottish things that’s highly localised - some towns are steak and sausage, others are steak only even though they’re only a few miles apart.

mocktail · 06/11/2021 18:28

Never had sausage in a steak pie, in fact never had a beef sausage (England).

StrapOnSallyChasedMeDownTheAli · 06/11/2021 18:30

I love a good beef sausage too, especially in my stovies. 🤤

ISpyCobraKai · 06/11/2021 18:33

Now I make Stories with corned beef.
I'm West Coast but recipe came from an East coaster.
