steak pie - steak only or steak and sausage?

I'm in Scotland and only found out (on here) about this sausage in a pie thing a few months ago - I'm in my 40s!

Sausages in stovies ? That is an abomination. Steak pie has no sausages, stovies are made with left over roast beef. I’m from Aberdeenshire and have only heard of sausages in steak pie on MN.I’ve lived in Edinburgh for decades and nobody down here can make stovies, just some pale weird mush of potato, veg and wrong meat.

The sausage isnt put in whole - it's chopped up so it blends in with the pieces of steak.

My SIL isn't allowed to make the New Years Day steak pie after sausagegate of 2017!

Imagine SIL the sole weegie at her first New Years Day with our family proudly presenting a steak pie with sausages in it to a bunch of Fifers!

Lots of "mum there's sausages in this steak pie, why is there sausages in the steak pie, what sort of weirdo puts sausages in a steak pie" this may have been me absolutely ruined dinner as it completely alters the taste & texture.

It was even worse than the time my Dundonian MIL gave me stovies with corned beef in them!

It's like salt n sauce or salt n vinegar (but with leas precise geographic deliniation.

Also suspect theres a town/country and class thing going on probably back in the mists of time in terms of how much steak you could afford for your pie.

Stovies with sausage in my family. Although stovies were created to use leftover meat so each to their own. Steak pie is just steak for me. Never had it with sausage! Scottish also

I'm also Scottish and I hate sausages in a steak pie, I think it's weird. I know it can be a traditional thing around here and I do love sausage but not in a steak pie 🤢

Stories are made from braising steak and cooked slowly and served with oatcakes and beetroot - anything else is just plain wrong

I'm Scottish and in NE Scotland.

Steak Pie is one of my favourite meals, and I have had some with sausages in, but I prefer just all steak.

Us too. Our stovies are made with beef square sausage, onions and potatoes all boiled together. I don’t like them mashed together, they’re better in chopped pieces. Someone once gave me stovies with corned beef 🤮. I’ve never recovered 😂

Also love a steak sausage, but keep it out of my pie.

Someone mentioned the salt and sauce/vinegar thing. I remember a workmate who had came to my office and decided he was going for a chippy for his dinner and was astonished at being asked if he wanted salt and vinegar. He was in his 50s and had only ever heard of salt and sauce.

I do my steak/onions/carrot in the slow cooker with a beef stock cube, a teaspoon of seasoned flour and a dash of Worcester sauce. I grill the sausages before adding the slow cooked steak and grilled sausages to a pie dish then top with puff pastry.
