GrandTheftWalrus · 06/11/2021 20:51

I keep meaning to try them again as it may have been my mums cooking that made them disgusting lol.

GrandTheftWalrus · 06/11/2021 21:53

My morrisons doesn't have them. All the steak pie are just steak.

IknowwhatIneed · 06/11/2021 21:54

Steak and sausage every time, slow cooked, puff pastry lid cooked with the pie so the bottom is all gravy soaked and the top is all flakey. I made one a week or two ago and it was bloody lovely.

Milkshake54 · 06/11/2021 21:55

English with Scottish parents…. Sausage all the way!!!

ISpyCobraKai · 06/11/2021 21:55

@IknowwhatIneed
Exactly that! Grin

Milkshake54 · 06/11/2021 21:58

@amazeandastonish

I'm the type of Scot who believes steak pie should be steak only and I get the rage when I order it in a restaurant and its got links in it

My MIL always puts sausage in her home made pie Angry

And I've never heard of the pastry being anywhere but on top?

We were having our boxing day dinner plan discussion today. Always steak pie but how good it is depends on which set of parents we are visiting. This year its my mum - yay!

Growing up (and still now 🤣) steak and sausage pie was a NYD meal… didn’t mind the hangover so much with that to look forward to for dinner! 🤤
ISpyCobraKai · 06/11/2021 21:59

Steak pie definitely NYD meal, not boxing day.
I mean, you can have it then, but the tradition is NYD.

Smilerjone · 06/11/2021 22:02

Noooooo
No sausages - that was a trick to pad out a pie when people couldn’t afford to fill it with steak. I would boak if I thought I was getting steak and bit into sausage

Bluntness100 · 06/11/2021 22:03

Also Scottish never had one with sausage in it,

BashfulClam · 06/11/2021 22:03

It’s the law in Scotland to have a steak pie on NYD. If you don’t you get 10 years hard Labour.

tigger1001 · 06/11/2021 22:10

@doorornottodoor

I’m Scottish and have never heard of sausage in a steak pie!!!
This!

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 06/11/2021 22:14

I have a Scottish (Glaswegian) DH and lived in Scotland for several years. I have never heard of Steak and Sausage! What am I missing?

Thatsplentyjack · 06/11/2021 22:17

I love sausage in mine but eldest ds doesn't like it, and the other 2 aren't fussed on it, so I have to do without. It's eldest favourite meal so I don't like to disappoint him 🤣

Sosomego · 06/11/2021 22:29

I'd never heard of sausage in a steak pie either until I moved from the East to South Lanarkshire. Our local butcher has both steak and steak and sausage. We prefer all steak in this house.

Also, the salt, sauce, vinegar thing is very regional. You can tell where someone is from by what they ask for on their chips. I've noticed people from different parts of the country call melted cheese on toast different things. My husband is from the central belt and says roasted cheese but it was always toasted cheese in my house!

PolaDeVeboise · 06/11/2021 22:30

I'm from North Lanarkshire and say an absolute NO to sausage in steak pie. However, my friend swears by it. My mum makes 2 for NYD - one with, and one without, kidney. Sis loves it. Me? Not so much.

GrandTheftWalrus · 06/11/2021 23:26

@Sosomego yes! I call it roasted cheese and my dh calls it cheese on toast!
