Amazon nightmare

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 22:39

I ordered a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and keyboard from Amazon costing just under £1k.

It supposedly arrived today. Any guesses as to what was actually in the box?

I have made a report to Amazon assuming they would put the issue right and they say that because the package was delivered to my address they consider the item to have been delivered and will not refund or replace the item.

AIBU to this this is totally unacceptable?

That can not be right. Even if it was signed for it was signed for unchecked surely, unless the delivery driver stuck around whilst you unpacked it?

As for what was in the box.... an illustrated children's bible?!

So much less exciting than an illustrated children's bible.

A brick? I hope you get your money back.

Goneroundthetwist · 08/10/2021 22:50

Box of weetabix

Fabpinky · 08/10/2021 22:50

Weetabix

Fuck all I would imagine.

HollowTalk · 08/10/2021 22:51

Isn't everything weighed when it leaves the warehouse?

MrsKellySeveride · 08/10/2021 22:51

Weetabix

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 22:52

At least my kids would enjoy the weetabix. Less so a brick.

I'm sure I red somewhere that every package is weighed out of the warehouse so there should be a record of the weight and if it is t as expected for a laptop and keyboard it would prove a discrepancy.

JumperooSue · 08/10/2021 22:52

I ordered a rather expensive travel system on prime, my partner signed for it. Luckily I came down the stairs as he closed the door. I instantly knew that was not a box big enough for an entire travel system, it wasn’t it was a giant bag of bird feed. It had my address on one side and the correct address on the other, luckily
I was able to intercept the driver. So frustrating for you Op👎🏻

They suggest that the weight tallys with the order so it must have been correct. It really, really isn't!

Contact your credit card company (I hope you did use a credit card?)

StarCat2020 · 08/10/2021 22:55

On the box there is usually a white sticker with barcode and QR code.

Under the long number that begins in QA there is a bit that says CYCLE1 or CYCLE2.

Next to that black bit has a four digit code (usually two letters and two numbers)

What is this code?

Cheeserton · 08/10/2021 22:56

Well you haven't told us what it was and therefore how defective the transaction was. Proper details please.

Always pay by credit card. Follow up through card provider if amazon won't sort it. As many photos as possible.

TeachesOfPeaches · 08/10/2021 22:56

Sounds like someone at the warehouse has stolen your laptop and switched it with something equivalent weight.

Cycle 1. Whatever does that mean?

Parcels are weighed when leaving fulfilment centre.

They then go via truck to local delivery hub where they are sorted for delivery to customer.

StarCat2020 · 08/10/2021 22:58

Not cycle_1 the four digit code in front of it.

Should begin in D

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 22:58

@StarCat2020 it's DHP1.

Is it obvious from the packaging that it's s laptop?

StarCat2020 · 08/10/2021 22:58

Hemel Hempstead?

housestuff · 08/10/2021 22:58

This has happened to someone I know today. Not quite as bad - a £150 item swapped for something worth probably £20.

idontlikealdi · 08/10/2021 23:01

Hemel? I've had a nightmare getting my delivery from there

FOJN · 08/10/2021 23:01

I've had some issues with delivery of high value tech items from Amazon recently, fortunately mine were never delivered despite notifications claiming they were so I was able to contact them immediately to report it. I told them it was a strange coincidence that they had reliably managed to deliver other lower value items and I thought they had an issue with fraud some where in their delivery chain. Your situation sounds very suspicious. Had the packaging been tampered with? I wonder if items are being scanned at packing but other items are actually being boxed.

I hope you find a way to resolve it, that is not a small amount of money to pay and have nothing to show for it.
