Amazon nightmare

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 22:39

I ordered a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and keyboard from Amazon costing just under £1k.

It supposedly arrived today. Any guesses as to what was actually in the box?

I have made a report to Amazon assuming they would put the issue right and they say that because the package was delivered to my address they consider the item to have been delivered and will not refund or replace the item.

AIBU to this this is totally unacceptable?

I have recently ordered a laptop from Amazon. When it arrived the outer box had one of those battery hazard labels on. Did your box have one of these?

CovidCorvid · 09/10/2021 07:15

A friend had similar where an expensive Lego set box contained old, dirty Lego bricks (not the correct set) when opened on Xmas day. Amazon refunded with no arguement.

CovidCorvid · 09/10/2021 07:16

And my brother’s Lego was direct from Amazon, not a market place seller.

TurnOnTheTime · 09/10/2021 07:18

@GoingBacktoSchool123

In the box was a pink duvet cover and pillowcase set and two bedsheets one blue, one white. Polyester not Egyptian cotton.
That’s where my order went!
FixTheBone · 09/10/2021 07:35

That surprises me, amazon have always been excellent and replaced things without any quibbles whatsoever, they normally don't even ask me to return the incorrect item either.

We've had a few tablets and dvd box sets go missing. Year before last, the entire van load of christmas shopping (around £1100) disappeared, one message to customer services and they replaced the lot, plus refunded the amount the price had dropped by.

Seasonschange · 09/10/2021 07:37

This has happened to me. Someone has purchased the tablet and “returned it” but they’ve just filled it with exact weight. System has only checked the return to see weights match.

I had an empty box for a game and rang them and they sorted it

Orangejuicemarathoner · 09/10/2021 07:38

report to the police - this is theft

ememem84 · 09/10/2021 07:54

I’ve heard of this happening with high value products.

The only time it’s happened to me is with a kindle. It never arrived. But this was back when they were sent in really distinctive boxes.

user6598 · 09/10/2021 07:58

There must have been a reason my iPad Pro was delivered Royal Mail special delivery and not on the usual Amazon delivery van.

badamsgirl · 09/10/2021 08:13

I had this a few of years ago. Ordered a new phone after my old one broke , and when it came i opened the box straight away as it felt really light and inside was just some air freshener (and something else i can't recall now). I was fuming and chased the poor delivery driver down who told me to call amazon as it was nothing to do with him. Fortunately i spoke to a very apologetic man in customer services and he managed to calm me down and they promised to dispatch the correct package to me the next day and to just return the wrong parcel (addressed to me, just wrong contents). Phone turned up next day. Definitely worth calling again as and speak to another person who is more knowledgeable instead of a 'computer says no' type person. It's their error so no reason why you shouldn't get your money back or the right package.

Hoppinggreen · 09/10/2021 08:18

Something similar happened to us a couple of years ago but Amazon were really good and refunded it very quickly

TeachesOfPeaches · 09/10/2021 08:20

I think someone else has bought OPs laptop and returned it filled with the duvet cover Amazon may have only checked the weight of the return.

I've found item reviews going downhill quite rapidly and looks like lots of knock off versions of branded items are being sold including loo roll, make-up and clothing. When buying expensive electricals stick to Curry's or John Lewis.

billyt · 09/10/2021 08:20

I try much doubt that expensive items are being swopped out at the Fulfillment centres.

We do a lot of work with Amazon and on leaving one site (I don't usually go on-site) I had to empty my pockets and go through airport type scanners.

Can't imagine trying to steal stolen items through there.

Not to say that some unscrupulous employees couldn't tip off someone on the outside who could divert the package.

DoraMaude · 09/10/2021 08:27

Talk to Amazon. Ive always found their customer service to be excellent. Recently I had some garden tools which showed as delivered but I never received them. They replaced them immediately.

butterpuffed · 09/10/2021 08:45

It's very unlike Amazon to say no replacement or refund on your first contact.. Normally they say they'll look into it and get back in touch. Contact them again.

BTW, I just want to say you haven't helped your cause in here by being deliberately evasive about what was in the package. What was that all about, making it into a guessing game Confused

Couchbettato · 09/10/2021 08:56

@Tilltheend99

I thought the Amazon warehouse staff all had to wear gps trackers and that all their ‘picks’ were timed. Wouldn’t have thought there was much opportunity to get away with anything.
There are ways around it all. I know people who work for Amazon and I've heard some of the shit they get up to.

I would never give Amazon any of my hard earned cash afterwards.

SunShinesBrightly · 09/10/2021 08:58

One hour after the original post and we find out what was in the box.

Was the order ‘fulfilled by Amazon’?

I don’t buy unless it comes directly from their warehouse.

SunShinesBrightly · 09/10/2021 09:01

@Mumdiva99

I'm guessing this wasn't bought from amazon but via amazon....a market place seller.
This. Always check before ordering. Many items sent directly by the seller and not by Amazon itself are the same cimpanies selling on eBay.
SunShinesBrightly · 09/10/2021 09:02

Companies.

venus22 · 09/10/2021 09:18

@GoingBacktoSchool123

Total value of items in the box was £36.31.

I will be initiating a chargeback with Amex tomorrow it's just a complete faff.

If have placed 171 orders on Amazon this year and 246 orders last year, most containing multiple items. My profile / spending history must surely indicate to them I am unlikely to rip them off for a tablet. Clearly they won't care.

Surely this tells you they don't value you as a customer. Stop shopping on Amazon; it's completely unethical, treats it's employees badly and doesn't pay tax....therefore denying NHS etc income. It's not difficult to avoid Amazon.
JetRocket · 09/10/2021 09:18

I don’t understand why anyone orders high value items on Amazon. You are completely taking your chances, there are soooooo many stories of people being ripped off I would say at this point Amazon is kinda known for that.

SoupDragon · 09/10/2021 09:19

What the duvet in the box for the actual item or just in the Amazon box?

SoupDragon · 09/10/2021 09:19

Was, not what.

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 09/10/2021 09:23

This is what was in the box.
