Amazon nightmare

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 22:39

I ordered a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and keyboard from Amazon costing just under £1k.

It supposedly arrived today. Any guesses as to what was actually in the box?

I have made a report to Amazon assuming they would put the issue right and they say that because the package was delivered to my address they consider the item to have been delivered and will not refund or replace the item.

AIBU to this this is totally unacceptable?

On the other hand I received a fancy limited edition PlayStation instead of some cheap pots once. 💁🏻‍♀️

…and yes I did tell them and, yes, they did want it back. 😔

N0PE · 09/10/2021 01:58

Did you just message them? I always have more luck on the phone.
Good luck!

Marzipanfruit · 09/10/2021 02:02

I was wondering what happened to my new bedlinen, I was so disappointed to get a tablet and keyboard........

AutomaticMoon · 09/10/2021 02:04

Are you on Twitter? You could tweet Amazon & Microsoft & newspapers, that might light a fire under Amazon's ass, if they see you contacting the media

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/10/2021 03:12

I was guessing it was going to be an Etch-A-Sketch - so technically the same kind of product, but a vastly, vastly more basic model!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/10/2021 03:14

That is disgusting, though - especially with your solid ordering history with them. I'm sure they do get customers who try it on and seek to defraud them, but you hardly fit the demographic for that - you'd have had to be playing the extreeeeeemely long game.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/10/2021 03:16

So where is this happening - the stealing of the items - does anyone know?
Sounds like it's becoming a widespread problem that Amazon will HAVE to step up and deal with appropriately! They can't just refuse to refund/replace because you received "a package" - if the CONTENT isn't what you paid for, then they haven't fulfilled their end of the contract, so they need to sort themselves out in terms of ensuring that the correct contents DOES reach the paying customer!

salsmum · 09/10/2021 03:34

I ordered some sprinter rubber gloves to use when I'm caring for my daughter ( personal needs) they delivered the brown box opened AND the gloves had been opened too! Needless to say they didn't get used. My DD lives in a small block of flats and it's common to get Amazon parcels opened, torn etc.. no less than EIGHT parcels big and small we're just dumped by the driver the other day on top of the Mail lockers ( main foyer) it's a disgrace.

Ireolu · 09/10/2021 03:44

We got drain declogger instead of a 600 pound phone a couple of years ago. We now only buy things for

Tilltheend99 · 09/10/2021 04:42

I thought the Amazon warehouse staff all had to wear gps trackers and that all their ‘picks’ were timed. Wouldn’t have thought there was much opportunity to get away with anything.

Kinneddar · 09/10/2021 04:52

You need to ring customer service and give them the bitching of a lifetime

What's to be gained by that. Its not the customer service person who's caused the problem. You'll get on better being pleasant to the person on the phone, that's far more likely to get the situation sorted or investigated

Tilltheend99 · 09/10/2021 04:56

I once got two Argos cupboards because they delivered to the wrong place and couldn’t say where. Sent a replacement, then a lovely couple from a different block of flats returned the miss-delivered original to us. DH rang Argos and told them but they weren’t bothered. This was before they were sold to Sainsbury’s.

On the flip side, when we lived different part of the country our post would get nicked regularly and we would spot it in the cashconverters round the corner. Didn’t know if it was post man on neighbours. I ordered a book for DHs bday and found it opened at the building entrance. It had clearly been a disappointment to the thief who wasn’t keen on reading.

DriftingBlue · 09/10/2021 05:00

Our expensive electronics weren’t from Amazon and the box was empty. We lucked out in two ways. First, we had video of the delivery driver carrying the box and it was obvious that it wasn’t heavy enough. Second, the seller was perfectly reasonable about the whole thing. The replacement came mailed in several layer of plastic sealed around the box so tampering would be obvious.

TarpaulinEyes · 09/10/2021 05:06

I ordered an ipad earlier this year from Amazon, £329 and received a £25 childrens toy that played music when I opened the package. (Guessed something was amiss as soon as the music started) I used the chat facility and got the issue sorted out the same day and a replacement sent within the following couple of days.

It was frustrating and I was upset at the time but Amazon sorted the matter out quickly for me. Posting what had happened on my Facebook account may have helped.

Snally82 · 09/10/2021 05:12

Amazon refunded us just last week when an item we ordered had been swapped for something else.

MattDamon · 09/10/2021 06:04

I've never had this happen, but I do find them inconsistent with the security of their high value items. I had two macbooks delivered this week (one had a fault and had to be returned).

The first one was very secure - had to give the delivery guy a code and was getting constant updates on its arrival.

The second one - no code and it was left in the (very busy) hallway of my building with no notifications. Not even a knock on my door. I was lucky I popped out to the shops when I did or it would have been swiped. £900 item!

neveradullmoment99 · 09/10/2021 06:08

@BootsMcToots

Is it from a 'third party seller'? I had an absolute nightmare with a purchase from a third party seller and Amazon completely washed their hands of it.
Me too. They couldn't give a shit. It was a very cheap item thankfully and they eventually gave me a credit note but it took months to sort and really was a disgrace I didn't get refunded. Lesson learnt.
trama · 09/10/2021 06:10

I was going to guess Gwyneth Paltrow's severed head but I see it was a polyester duvet cover - only marginally less distressing.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 09/10/2021 06:15

I've never had an issue with Amazon in 20+ years of being a customer. Have come across a couple of dodgy third party sellers over the years and have always been refunded by Amazon. Years ago it used to take 30 days but more recently I've just done an online chat with customer service and had the issue sorted instantly.

SpeakingFranglais · 09/10/2021 06:36

If it’s any consolation Amazon (who normally) knock and drop delivered yesterday only he didn’t knock, just dropped.

When I went out to collect, he’d knocked our wall down and left his bumper on the drive.

The wall was replaced about a month ago after Asda knocked it down. At least Asda didn’t hit and run like Amazon did.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/10/2021 06:37

A few years ago I ordered something from Amazon. When it arrived I opened the box, took out the (unnecessary), packaging and nothing. The box was empty, it was very much a WTF moment.

speakout · 09/10/2021 06:41

You need to ring customer service and give them the bitching of a lifetime

You are less likely to illicit a good response with that attitude.
Customer service call handlers deserve courtesy, not to have somone thrashing venom at them.
You can complain, state your cllaim, ask for a complaint to be escalated, speak to a supervisor, agree on a plan of action, all without " giving them a bitching of a lifetime".
These are human beings on the other end of the phone.

Mumdiva99 · 09/10/2021 07:01

I'm guessing this wasn't bought from amazon but via amazon....a market place seller.

user6598 · 09/10/2021 07:04

Was it Amazon Prime, OP?

FiveMoreMinutesPlease · 09/10/2021 07:08

This happened to me.
I ordered a 16 loo roll pack and received a full sized free standing magnetic whiteboard. The sort you get in a classroom. Amazon did refund me but wanted me to return it via Hermes drop off or post office. I refused stating they should send someone to collect it as I have a bad back ( I don't) and no car ( I do). Why should I inconvenience myself for their mistake as it was so big. They let me keep it and I got rid of it in Facebook.
