Amazon nightmare

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 22:39

I ordered a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and keyboard from Amazon costing just under £1k.

It supposedly arrived today. Any guesses as to what was actually in the box?

I have made a report to Amazon assuming they would put the issue right and they say that because the package was delivered to my address they consider the item to have been delivered and will not refund or replace the item.

AIBU to this this is totally unacceptable?

Is it from a 'third party seller'? I had an absolute nightmare with a purchase from a third party seller and Amazon completely washed their hands of it.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 08/10/2021 23:04

I read an article the other day where a woman had ordered a mac book pro for her sons 18th birthday from amazon and when it came it was a box of weetabix. They said the same, that it was delivered so nothing they can do, took a week and her going to the papers to get a refund. The pictures showed that it looked like there was amazon tape on top of amazon tape so it looked like it had been opened, swapped and sealed back up, apparently its quite rife in the depots for high end products

StarCat2020 · 08/10/2021 23:06

I was checking that the order did not come direct from Microsoft.

Your order would not have been weighed after leaving your fulfillment centre.

Not 100% but I think it is Chertsey - might change depend on stock levels).

My point is that there is no opportunity in the distribution hub to swop items out without being seen as there are so many cameras.

Once that item leaves the hub, it is with the van driver until it reaches you.

Can't say anything more than that but you see what I am meaning.

Is there more tape on the box than you would expect?

Clear tape or just Amazon tape?

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 23:07

Total value of items in the box was £36.31.

I will be initiating a chargeback with Amex tomorrow it's just a complete faff.

If have placed 171 orders on Amazon this year and 246 orders last year, most containing multiple items. My profile / spending history must surely indicate to them I am unlikely to rip them off for a tablet. Clearly they won't care.

But what was in the box?!

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 23:08

Off to check the tape....

Sorry 20 questions from me but it makes me angry

SylvanasWindrunner · 08/10/2021 23:10

Oh I saw an article about this today - someone's MacBook they bought on Amazon had been replaced with bricks or something!

2Two · 08/10/2021 23:12

Point out to them that this is straight breach of contract and you will be suing if they don't refund or send the goods.

thebestnamesweregone · 08/10/2021 23:13

I've seen VARIOUS reports of this!!
Empty / weighted boxes from you've guessed it SHAMAZON,
You aren't alone and you aren't being unreasonable,
I saw an article detailing what you've described on "rip off Britain" they too said they'd "not refund/replace" but they sure did when the BBC show got in touch....worries me ordering dear gear because of this!
Keep us posted OP

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 23:13

Ok so the main tape does not look like it has been tampered with because the address label is on top of it.

But....there is a second load of tape on the bottom seam of the box so I suppose it could have been opened on the bottom and the items swapped.

@HollowTalk

Isn't everything weighed when it leaves the warehouse?
No Best friend works there, you'd be amazed at what goes on!
3luckystars · 08/10/2021 23:16

Good luck getting the money back.

22Giraffes · 08/10/2021 23:17

But what was in the box??

Sleepinghyena · 08/10/2021 23:17

What was in the box?!

Anonmummyoftwo · 08/10/2021 23:19

It’s a draw pad or something

StarlitTrees · 08/10/2021 23:22

It was weetabix in the box, OP has already said.

user1473878824 · 08/10/2021 23:24

Oh my GOD John Doe, what’s in the box?!

StarCat2020 · 08/10/2021 23:24

To be honest I would be inclined to inform Amazon that you are going to the police about it and see what happens from there.

They will have footage of the warehouse from one million different angles so if anything did happen there it would be seen.

Otherwise the only other place where the parcel was "unattended" was between the hub and your house in the van.

HouseOfFire · 08/10/2021 23:26

You sound lien my DM

Guess what I got???
Guess who I saw???

HouseOfFire · 08/10/2021 23:27

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 23:27

Nope the weetabix wasn't mine.

OP posts:
BakedTattie · 08/10/2021 23:34

Are you actually going to tell us what was in the box then? Hmm

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 23:35

In the box was a pink duvet cover and pillowcase set and two bedsheets one blue, one white. Polyester not Egyptian cotton.

I ordered an iPad Pro and it was posted Royal Mail special delivery from Amazon, I suspect because of it was more secure than other posting methods, how was this posted OP, was it just on the normal Amazon van. Years ago my friend ordered a TomTom sat nav from Amazon and got a cheap book
