Amazon nightmare

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 08/10/2021 22:39

I ordered a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and keyboard from Amazon costing just under £1k.

It supposedly arrived today. Any guesses as to what was actually in the box?

I have made a report to Amazon assuming they would put the issue right and they say that because the package was delivered to my address they consider the item to have been delivered and will not refund or replace the item.

AIBU to this this is totally unacceptable?

So coy...

Bungalowdown · 08/10/2021 23:37

Ah, sorry, just saw your latest post. That's ridiculous! You need to ring customer service and give them the bitching of a lifetime.

user6598 · 08/10/2021 23:42

I did have a camera go missing once, it was very odd, van came up our road on tracking and I saw it and then it just disappeared and no more tracking, they sent another out. Hope you get it sorted OP

This happened to Emily Maitlis a while ago, and apparently several other people who commented on her Twitter post at the time. Amazon must know it happens:

@GoingBacktoSchool123

In the box was a pink duvet cover and pillowcase set and two bedsheets one blue, one white. Polyester not Egyptian cotton.
So when you sent them photo evidence what did they say? It is clearly an error but, you need to show them the evidence!
whynotwhatknot · 08/10/2021 23:53

Was it amazon marketplace or direct from amazon itself

marketplace is notorious for con artists

bestbefore · 08/10/2021 23:53

Have you actually spoken to them because with your order history I would be going nuclear

SuperstoreFan · 09/10/2021 00:03

Were you given a code to give to the courier?

The trouble is that only proves that the courier handed over a box...

I don't even know how the courier would know what was in the box? They can't be opening every delivery.

Laufeythejust · 09/10/2021 00:11

Speak to Amazon directly on the phone rather than by email- I have found them to be really good with things like this. We had similar (nowhere near the same value though) a Nintendo switch game had been removed when we got it, they had cut the cellophane with a knife. Amazon refunded straight away we offered pictures but they refused and said customer is right.

TheBullfinch · 09/10/2021 00:15

I've had several expensive Amazon parcels not be delivered this year but luckily, Ive been refunded on all of them. If you check the status, they all still say 'in transit.'

Possibly just the large/heavy ones. I receive a lot of parcels that have been tampered with - normally a hole poked in the bag or a corner of the box torn away.
In4mation · 09/10/2021 00:33

A friend ordered an iPhone, and got a pack of batteries weighing the same.

simitra · 09/10/2021 00:36

Your credit card company is the way to go.

MilesOfSand · 09/10/2021 00:38

I’d be interested as to whether they record the outbound serial number for the device and which one they say had been delivered to you - as that item has now been effectively stolen. I’d also tweet Amazon and Microsoft on this. If you’ve bought directly from Amazon as the seller then it won’t look good if they’re not reliably shipping the product.

ditalini · 09/10/2021 00:40

I ordered a Roku streaming device and got a box of £50 plasters Hmm

Amazon did accept a return and replacement though.

Not as extreme as yours, but presumably someone at the warehouse knows low value items that weigh exactly the same as easily sellable tech and is stealing from Amazon.

ditalini · 09/10/2021 00:42

That should say 50 plasters. They cost about a fiver. The Roku was worth £30 so small beer compared to an iPad.

MilesOfSand · 09/10/2021 00:42

Can you weigh the box and ask if it tallies with the weight they have? If it does then someone within their warehouse has potentially found items to match the Surface weight.

Hankunamatata · 09/10/2021 00:44

I was bitten once by high value order from amazon - item broke but was told they only have months warranty policy or something. I now stick with likes of John lewis etc

KloppsTeeth · 09/10/2021 01:00

Now this has been mentioned; I often get boxes from Amazon with holes poked in them. Never from anywhere else.

WaterScarf · 09/10/2021 01:08

I have to say I was reading this thread thinking I'd never buy laptops or iPads etc from Amazon and then realised I have bought 3 iPhones (renewed) from them in the last year which all arrived in pristine condition.

But reading about the PP whose friend received batteries instead of an iPhone will make me reconsider buying electronic items from them if they don't refund.

Stigsmother · 09/10/2021 01:09

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but please don't give customer service "the bitching of a lifetime"
That won't help you or anyone else Smile

Holskey · 09/10/2021 01:17

I've heard of this scam. Happened a lot with the new PlayStation.

ITakeCharge · 09/10/2021 01:18

I used to send Amazon gift cards at Christmas until one was delivered as an empty open envelope. When I complained they said as far as they were concerned the envelope had been delivered so their job was done. I said I had not ordered an empty envelope & the recipient had both the envelope & photos of how it arrived. They said I should report it to the police as no further action would be taken without a crime number - I live overseas so had no evidence to proceed with that and the person I sent it to who had the evidence was not allowed to report it as I had paid not them.

I suggested Amazon would know who had the gift card once it was used and items had a delivery address or alternatively they should cancel the card and refund me - cancelling it before it was used would incur no loss for them. They weren't interested in helping me in any way. I had not realized this was a well known problem in the area I sent it to with lots of seasonal temporary mail carriers.

FlipFlopFlossy · 09/10/2021 01:19

This happens a lot. Keep on at Amazon.

TellingTheTimeForTrumpton · 09/10/2021 01:28

It does sound as though there could've been a swap out (of same weight or otherwise) fraudulently, at some stage, as others have said.

But given that it is a bedding set of all things (bulky? would it even fit in the same box that the items would've come in?) then this might just be a case of juxtaposing and mislabelling 2 orders. Ocado managed to do this to me with one of those sealed grey bags they use for some non-food items. Not the same bulk, not the same weight, worth a fair bit more (not 1K obviously!) than the items I ordered, and it was a clear mistake in labelling, unlikely to have been a fraud at the warehouse or in transit.

However, pursue it as others have said, because it still might have been a fraud, and may well become one anyway if the recipient thinks "hang on, I don't think I'll report this mistake, I'll keep this". (They might be honest, they might not.) Regardless, Amazon/courier haven't delivered the items and you need your 1K back.

Sympathy for the faff and missing money/item. What a crap start to the weekend.
