He worked in the same dept as WC.

It’s being very widely reported, except by the BBC.

AIBU to be sickened and wonder WHY the BBC are not reporting this?

What point are you trying to make OP?

We need a lot more police on the street to deal with all sort of issues and they need to be properly funded.

If one, two or however many officers are not up to scratch it needs to be dealt with, same as with any public service. That's all there is to this, let's not blow this out of proportion

YerAWizardHarry · 04/10/2021 00:07

@YourFinestPantaloons again, I have agreed that my comments were perhaps out of line with the original thread was topic which you’d see if you’d read the previous replies..

mustlovegin · 04/10/2021 00:12

I'm a retired female officer and I'm thinking 'wtaf is going on'. I don't recognise the job now

The media appear to be regurgitating a few incidents day in and day out in order to suit agendas unfortunately.

ElizaDarcysDeeds · 04/10/2021 00:13

I don't think the BBC reporting is the big story here. It feels odd to me that you read about a police officer being charged with rape and your first response is to post a thread criticising the BBC ... not a thread discussing institutionalised misogyny in the police ... not a thread supporting calls for a public inquiry.
That's why I think YABU. I'm critical of the BBC on lots of issues but they're nowhere near my first thought about this story.

Not blow it out of proportion?

Wayne Couzens was nicknamed The Rapist. But no o e actually did anything t - no one reported him, no one raised concerns, they partook in the porn WhatsApp groups with him and did fuck all when he exposed himself to a child.

This is extremely typical of police culture. Has been for decades - ignoring terrible behaviour in the spirit of having each others' backs.

Do you know the number of serving police officers who are sex offenders and have been violent towards women? In the Met police alone, 600 complaints of sex offences, almost a quarter were upheld. This included an officer who and sex with a rape victim.

Blow it out of proportion? Are you taking the piss?

Gosh, imagine, actually talking about sex crimes against women. I mean, why won't they just STFU like the good old days? Hmm
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 04/10/2021 00:17

Yer yes in some situations police and their family will be despised. This has been true for a very long time.
Your ex could presumably pop round and arrest the adult that assaulted his son.
It's not good but police officers subverting their powers to rape, murder and burn someone while his colleagues ignored all the red flags? It's different.

No, it’s that the police force is riddled with rapists, misogynist and thugs, and also other officers willing to protect them at all costs.
happystrummer · 04/10/2021 00:26

click the link on this tweet. Its a document of all the police officers charged, what they were charged for and the outcome over the last decade or so. It's really shocking. It's clearly not a few bad apples

Senior officers involved in the WhatsApp groups too. How can you flag inappropriate stuff if the people in charge think it’s ok?

HunkyPunk · 04/10/2021 00:57

I’m really puzzled by this thread. I watched an item concerning this case on the BBC ten o’clock news. Are you talking about online content, maybe?

MissTrip82 · 04/10/2021 00:57

@YerAWizardHarry

There are around 33,000 met police officers. 0.01%. My son has already been bullied out of a school for having police officer parents ffs
In what way is this relevant? It’s not related to serious feminist criticism of the police. It seems to be related to your son having being enrolled by his parents in a school full of the children of criminals.

It’s an extraordinarily long bow to draw to link legitimate criticism of the police to individual’s feeling annoyed that one of their mates has been arrested.

User57327259 · 04/10/2021 01:04

For some time now due to my own experiences I think police officers have a very low moral standard when it comes to women being sexually harassed by males.
They certainly do not have the same standards as I do.

ThinWomansBrain · 04/10/2021 01:10

I've heard it on the BBC (radio news, no idea about TV)

So maybe police are learning not to cover up for their mates - lets hope it's a permanent change and not just for when the media spotlight on the issue.

That is horrendous.
This cannot be allowed to continue.

That's awful.

turnitonagain · 04/10/2021 01:34

BAME people have been raising instances of police abuse for decades (see the Mangrove case in West London) and haven’t been believed or taken seriously. If you’re surprised by any of this you’ve had your eyes closed.

Rinoachicken · 04/10/2021 02:04

To those asking why I posted this thread…

I posted because I’m ANGRY. It seems to me that the government hopes that give it a few days and all us bothersome whining women will settle down and be quiet again and we can Cary on as a society to ignore the fucking TSUNAMI of violence against women that is heppening very fucking day.

And i have had enough. I have been raped and abused by men too many times, not to mention the daily drip drip of misogynistic shit that most women have to endure on a daily basis, NOT ONE of my rapists has faced justice. One of them even fucking ADMITTED it and still got ‘let off with a caution FFS.

Why is our society not horrified? Why is this not front page news every single day until something is actually DONE about it??

I am angry and upset and tired of being afraid, tired of KNOWING that the society I live in, the people employed to protect me and the people elected to govern me actually don’t give a shiny shot about my safety or the safety of all the women around me.

That fucking TERRIFIES me.

THATS why I made this thread.

That is just shocking and worked the same area that that other disgusting piece of crap did. Just awful. But it is just as shocking that a little boy is bullied at school because his dad is a police officer. Not fair for an innocent child to suffer and the stress that the mum has to also go through. The hatred should not be put onto a child. There will be many more cases of these vile men and the same in any institutional. Look at the church for god's sake and the scouts. Just sickening the way women are treated and is a new wave of violence towards them and in my opinion so much is directly directly towards hard core porn.

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 04/10/2021 02:43

A few things cross my mind while reading these stories. I think the W.C. more than likely did this before, he was so brazen.
It also seems likely that there are peadophile/sex abuser rings in the police.
They really need to act.

IrishMel · 04/10/2021 02:44

meant to say because of hardcore porn and their sick fantasies. Tougher sentencing and life sentences for these men and also for those men who choke their partners out in their so called sex games and then claim they did not know what they were doing. All connected to porn. Give these men longer sentences as shocking to see them getting off and 18mths or so for a life of the poor woman.

Nat6999 · 04/10/2021 02:47

I was raped, reported it but my rapist ex husband was never brought to justice because I was ordered by the family court that I had to speak to him to make arrangements for contact. The courts took no notice of the fact that I had reported the rape & every week I had to hand my son to the man who had raped me. In my mind the police & CPS don't work hard enough to make a case that will stand up in court, they take the easy way out. The police will most likely close ranks when one of their own is reported for committing a crime, there should be a separate department to investigate crimes committed by serving police officers, I know there is the IPCC but they are only there to investigate complaints, not crimes.

Pikamoo · 04/10/2021 02:59

@YerAWizardHarry not everything is about you. You know that, right?

The police are not fit for purpose. There needs to be a total overhaul. I think a change of leadership would be a start.
