2nd Met Police officer has been charged with rape

Rinoachicken · 03/10/2021 23:04

He worked in the same dept as WC.

It’s being very widely reported, except by the BBC.

AIBU to be sickened and wonder WHY the BBC are not reporting this?

I'm uncomfortable with the assumption that all police officers are complicit and turning a blind eye to rampant racism and misogyny. My DH is a police officer and specialises in investigating hate crime and domestic violence. When his work has put people behind bars for homophobic hate crime and helped women escape their abusers, his colleagues have celebrated his success. Despite not specialising in investigating rape, one of his cases turned into a rape case and the suspect was convicted and sentenced to prison. I told him he must have done a great job, and he said the victims did a great job, and handled giving evidence really well.

He says he really hasn't experienced the toxic culture being spoken about. He used to work in the Met.

I'm not saying there isn't a problem, but please don't assume that all police officers are seeing and hearing evidence of the problem and ignoring it.

I worked in prisons way back and I know what a toxic culture looks like from personal experience.

Spiindoctor · 04/10/2021 07:28

colleagues knew about the fact that he exposed himself and even earned the nickname 'the rapist'.

There is no evidence that the nickname was used. The Sarah Everard evidence demonstrated this. Mentioned on BBC news.
Possibly the other things you state are wrong too. Like you, I can't be bothered to check.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 04/10/2021 07:35

To the posters aggressively demanding "what does PP's policeman spouse do when he hears sexism and misogyny"

I hope your husbands also challenge this at work too. Do they? What do your husbands and sons do? I think if y'all could be a fly on the wall at your husband's work and your son's schools you'd be horrified. Unless you have actual evidence that your husband has challenged this, he is complicit.

Go on ask him: How many times have you stepped in and spoken up and reported sexism, homophobia, racism. Then come back here and tell us what a hero your own husband is

No institution is without misogyny otherwise it would not be perpetuated.

This is not just a police problem: It's a man problem.

@mustlovegin

I'm a retired female officer and I'm thinking 'wtaf is going on'. I don't recognise the job now

The media appear to be regurgitating a few incidents day in and day out in order to suit agendas unfortunately.

How interesting that you think it’s “unfortunate” that this woman’s rape is in the news, or other cases where the police have abused their power. Why is that “unfortunate “? Do you think the police should be above criticism for some reason? That their crimes against women should be a secret?

BBC report:-

YerAWizardHarry
There are around 33,000 met police officers. 0.01%. My son has already been bullied out of a school for having police officer parents ffs
So you must be fucking raging these men walk amongst you. What are you doing about it?

This does not justify a boy being bullied.

vivainsomnia · 04/10/2021 07:42

Maybe because with what's happened and the hatred for the police encouraged by the media, the BBC is concerned that the guy will be found guilty by the masses before it even goes to trial.

MNers here have clearly done so already. No possibility at all that maybe just maybe, there is a small chance that he didn't rape her?

KikoLemons · 04/10/2021 07:43

@YerAWizardHarry I'm so sorry to hear about your son.

Unfortunately we live in times when being seen to be "virtuous" by way of attacking and hurting anyone who we preceive not to be (or those associated with them) is the name of the game.

Bad policmen are (for a few weeks anyway) the new folk devils. Of course the issue needs addressing. No-one is denying that. But by bullying children??? And why?? Only to make yourself seem virtuous???

KevinTheKoala · 04/10/2021 07:44

I think there has been evil people in the police getting away with their crimes for a very long time, and it is not our job to blindly trust them so that the good ones can do their job (and I do believe that there are some good ones) it is the police forces job to regain public trust and that starts with some major changes.

Do you worry about hatred for women this much?

Some guy who was previously arrested, spat at a child, I don’t see how this is in any way related to women's justified angry at the culture of misogyny in the police?

CounsellorTroi · 04/10/2021 07:50

This is extremely typical of police culture. Has been for decades - ignoring terrible behaviour in the spirit of having each others' backs.

Yes this - do they not have a whistle blowing policy? Every other work place does.

What?
Underamour · 04/10/2021 07:53

Yes their boss does have the illustrious name C(see) Dick. It wasn’t a command though.

Still they are going to be revetted and I am sure this cannot be a bad thing.

The story appeared on bbc.co.uk news at two o’clock this morning.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10055307/More-HALF-Met-officers-guilty-sexual-misconduct-four-year-period-kept-job.html

I've also seen a report of another Met officer dressing as Jimmy Saville on their stag weekend.

When the DAILY MAIL is reporting in outraged terms on the sickening misogynistic culture of the Met, could there be any clearer signal that something is very badly wrong and needs fixing?? Stand down, Cressida Dick, for a start. And take your pal Priti Patel with you.

I’m not sure what authority you think we have here. Maybe spend this time thinking about the authority of the police and what they can do to stop these men being allowed in a uniform. They’ll be easy to spot - they’re the ones whining nobody likes them any more.
Thankyoupeter · 04/10/2021 07:59

The police are vetted when they join but that's usually the only time anyone takes a look. I agree with the senior officer who says all police officers should be vetted again as a matter of urgency and this should include forensic examination of their social media accounts. It would be a huge task but it needs doing and then should be repeated regularly. I know it isn't the answer but at least it is a practical step that be taken straight away.

That's my very point; it's not.

That sounds quite mild for an overseas stag holiday.

OMG the police have been hated for years - by everyone - if you go by the headlines.

Couchbettato · 04/10/2021 08:02

@Pumperthepumper if your son was spat at by an adult why didn't you call it in and report it at the time? That's assault of a minor.

Right, and extra lols seeing as the police turned a blind eye to his crimes. What lads!
TrampolineForMrKite · 04/10/2021 08:03

It’s inquiry o’clock isn’t it. We need a full, McPherson-style inquiry into the misogynist culture of the Met and sex offences of officers.
