He worked in the same dept as WC.

It’s being very widely reported, except by the BBC.

AIBU to be sickened and wonder WHY the BBC are not reporting this?
@Northernlurker he’s my ex so I wouldn’t have a clue what he does in his day to day work life. What I care about is that my FIVE YEAR OLD was spat at by an adult because his dad is a “piggy fuck”
Your story keeps changing. Your son who was bullied at school has now been spat on by an adult? What, a teacher?

YerAWizardHarry · 03/10/2021 23:32

@Pumperthepumper a parent of his (ex) classmate who my ex had previously arrested at work

justmaybenot · 03/10/2021 23:33
@ftw163532 right so my son should be treated like shit even though his dad is a police officer 550 miles away from London? Hmm
Nobody here has said that. Obviously children shouldn't be blamed for their parents' jobs. Why try to derail the conversation?

Pumperthepumper · 03/10/2021 23:33
@Pumperthepumper a parent of his (ex) classmate who my ex had previously arrested at work
WTF? This story is getting weirder and weirder.

pelosi · 03/10/2021 23:34
@pelosi my issue isn’t speaking about these disgusting acts but the whole “bad apples” comments
We’ve had the former Chief Constable for Nottinghamshire Sue Fish talk live on TV about culture of misogyny in the police and the fact that police officers misuse their powers every day

I’d say the problem is more than ‘ a few bad apples’.

YerAWizardHarry · 03/10/2021 23:35

@pelosi ex dropped my son at school, bumped into another parent who he had dealings with at work. Said parent cornered myself and son at pick up, made the “piggy fuck” comment to my son and spat at him. It was then spread round the school (in a bit of a dodgy area) that his dad and step mum were police officers and that we should be avoided. My son went from having lots of friends and being happy at school to being subject to comments such as the piggy one above on a regular basis and having zero friends

justmaybenot · 03/10/2021 23:35
@Pumperthepumper a parent of his (ex) classmate who my ex had previously arrested at work
And what's that got to do with concerns about misogyny? It's totally irrelevant to this thread!

pelosi · 03/10/2021 23:36
@Pumperthepumper a parent of his (ex) classmate who my ex had previously arrested at work
So your son was spat on because of your ex arresting a man, not women discussing the toxicity within the police.

YerAWizardHarry · 03/10/2021 23:39

@pelosi perhaps I’m pushing my own agenda on this and taking it too personally, it’s just whenever the police are in the media for a negative reason (BLM, the cases mentioned in this thread) it honestly makes me fear for the personal safety of my own family, obviously not the right thread for it when i’m worked up and upset on a Sunday evening

Pumperthepumper · 03/10/2021 23:40

Seems to be a fair number of them though eh @Magenta82

MrsRobbieHart · 03/10/2021 23:40

Ignore the derail. This shit is too important to get drawn into silencing tactics.

NightVinca · 03/10/2021 23:41

The CPS themselves have verified it 10 HOURS AGO
www.cps.gov.uk/cps/news/cps-authorises-rape-charge-against-david-carrick
How much longer and how much more verification do they need?!

I'VE NO IDEA

Oh so nothing to do with rape and misogyny in the police force then. Why derail this thread?
It is terrible if that happened, but us talking about bad police officers doesn't have an impact in any way.

YerAWizardHarry · 03/10/2021 23:42

@Magenta82 I explained myself upthread

pelosi · 03/10/2021 23:43

@YerAWizardHarry I can understand that, and your son should not have been subjected to that. I hope he’s ok. Flowers But we are also fearing for own safety and Mumsnet is a safe place to talk about it. I’m not sure I’ll be able to talk about in my male dominated workplace.

I avoided so many men over the weekend, and found myself looking down to avoid eye contact.

The good, honest officers who do a good job and want to protect the public and make the world safer need to be calling out the ones who cause the negative press.

As things stand very few people trust the police. It has always been the case that criminals hate the police and the guy at school is a terrible person who clearly needs some more police involvement. But now normal people mistrust and fear the police as well. The stupid policing of covid guidelines that weren't law meant a lot more people came into contact with them. Add that to the institutional issues, the problems with racism and sexism and the focus on policing tweets and mean words rather than crimes that cause actual harm means that the police are basically a joke.

What? Your husband arrested one of your near neighbours when he worked 550 miles away? What are the chances of that?

Duchess379 · 03/10/2021 23:55

I'm a retired female officer and I'm thinking 'wtaf is going on'. I don't recognise the job now. I have no idea how standards have slipped so much. DPS spends its time trawling social media sites, making sure inappropriate comments aren't being made by officers, all the while we've got these fucking a-holes committing serious sexual offences. The whole force needs a good clear out & start again. What angers me is these guys are screwing it up for everyone else. I worked with some amazing officers & we dealt with some god awful situations. There are a handful of disgraceful officers that are representing the rest of us, in the media.

YerAWizardHarry · 03/10/2021 23:59

@NeverDropYourMoonCup no, we (all) live 550 miles away from London

YourFinestPantaloons · 04/10/2021 00:01

@YerAWizardHarry

There are around 33,000 met police officers. 0.01%. My son has already been bullied out of a school for having police officer parents ffs
It's about the culture, not the number of rapists.

What do you and/or your husband do then when you hear sexist and misogynistic banter at work? Do you report it? And Don't pretend it doesn't happen. What do you think of the way the Met Police ignored the MASSIVE red flags WRT Wayne Couzens?

I'm sick of police officers playing the victim here. I've asked a few police whining about how no one likes them the above questions. No answers as of yet.

Nat6999 · 04/10/2021 00:01

Every time another Police Officer gets charged with a sexual offence the reputation & confidence the public have in the Police goes down. Anyone in the Police needs to be whiter than white, why should we trust the Police to uphold the law when there are members committing very serious crimes?

YerAWizardHarry · 04/10/2021 00:01

@YourFinestPantaloons perhaps read the thread. I’m not a police officer.

YourFinestPantaloons · 04/10/2021 00:04
@YourFinestPantaloons perhaps read the thread. I’m not a police officer.
Do you understand why people are angry with the police right now? Or do you not give a shit that so many officers are violent, abusive and rapists?

YourFinestPantaloons · 04/10/2021 00:06

@MrsRobbieHart

Ignore the derail. This shit is too important to get drawn into silencing tactics.
You're absolutely right.

I have no trust in the police, as individuals or as a class. They have lost the trust of the public and don't appear to care about winning it back - both as individuals and as a class.

These are really scary times when you realise, as a woman with a daughter, just how much law enforcement fucking hates females
