do families of notorious and vile pieces of filth receive protection, new identities etc or are they left to fend for themselves?

Why the asterisks?

Batfinkwings · 02/10/2021 10:42

I don’t know but I feel so sorry for them.
Imagine finding something like that out about the man you married or your father.
I hope they are ok.

cantbuylilt · 02/10/2021 10:42

I'd hope they'd have some form of protection. It's not their fault, is it?

Asterisks to avoid naming the murderer, who doesn't need any more airtime.

MerryDeath · 02/10/2021 10:44

exactly @cantbuylilt @ilovesooty

Sadly they are likely to have to move because absolute bastards routinely target the innocent family members of disgusting criminals.

I'm so outraged by this man's horrific crime and what he did that I am going to damage the house his wife and children are in, threaten his wife and children and basically use his crime as an excuse to be a foul yob towards children and a woman who has done nothing wrong. Aren't I a fabulous member of society. 🙄

Dillyjones72 · 02/10/2021 10:47

They just have to get on with it. I know a family with a murderer DH who moved and changed their surname back to her maiden name. They don’t have any contact with the DH even though he out now. As far as I know they’re mostly left alone as they denounced him, cut off contact etc and want nothing to do with him.

Well maybe people should stop posting threads about him then?
Dillyjones72 · 02/10/2021 10:48

They weren’t offered any protection of any kind, just advice as to moving to a new part of the country etc. There wasn’t much sympathy from the police for them

SquareWindow · 02/10/2021 10:50

He is a proper evil arsehole to take his wife and children on a family picnic to the spot where he killed her a few days later, how do you ever get over that or the guilt maybe you missed some red flags.
I hope his wife and children don’t get abused and have support.
He was a proper dangerous evil man.

Dillyjones72 · 02/10/2021 10:50

Also know more than one where the family, and criminal DH, live together in their old neighbourhood openly and everyone knows but just has to stomach it.

Agreed.

What happens to his assets in these cases? So if the wife divorces him, does he get half the house etc?

BlusteryLake · 02/10/2021 10:54

Exactly this. "I am outraged at his crimes against women so I too am going to commit a crime against women". The family can change their names by deed poll even if they don't get given new ones by the authorities.
Wondergirl100 · 02/10/2021 10:55

Every year thousands of men are arrested for sex offences - ie. the sort of crime that attracts vigilante attacks - their families are given no support at all. It's horrific for the children and the wives - I imagine WC was an abusive husband - his children have to live with this forever -

They won't have any support at all they will probably have tried to change names/ identities but with zero support.

There is no official support for families of criminals and many face similar circumstances

I feel incredibly sorry for them particularly his children.

It’s just awful. Of course Sarah Everard is the primary victim, and her family, but he’s made his family victims too. I’d want the kids in therapy for years and to move house and start over, but give his enormous debts, can’t imagine they’ve got the money for what they’ll need.

@GianaSister she wasn’t in court she was on the live feed from the sentencing

StaplesCorner · 02/10/2021 10:56

BTW there are a few charities that offer very good support for families of sex offenders/lifers, few and far between but still that support does exist.

GnusSitOnCanoes · 02/10/2021 10:57

Not exactly the same, but the Guardian ran a story a while ago that interviewed wives of husbands who’d been arrested - and later convicted- for downloading abusive images of children. They’d had no idea until the knock at the door came from the police. Their lives - and those of their children- were completely upended.

I don’t think she’s given any indication she supports him.
Problem is with moving then you lose your entire network / job/ family whom you probably need more than ever at a time like this.
I just hope people leave them alone. God only knows what it’s like for the children at school.

StaplesCorner · 02/10/2021 11:00

Just noticed a few articles online, she gave an interview (to the Mail unfortunately) in the summer saying she thought he was a monster and she never saw any signs of it previously.
