I think her comments today were spot on, although not really professional she makes a valid point.

OP posts:
HermioneWeasley · 26/09/2021 19:25

She wants to be the deputy PM or PM of this country - to be a leading politician on the world stage.

Can you imagine 😱😱😱

Dee1975 · 26/09/2021 19:26

@Pixxie7

x2boys@ I find her refreshing and I don’t think that you can say that mumsnet is out of touch, in what way?
I agree with @x2boys

And in response to your comment op, it’s prob because it’s the Tory party that has had 2 female PMs, (how many have labour had?). half of the great offices of state are filled by women, half by BAME, it’s a diverse government, and has more gay ministers than Labour ever had.

So her claims are a bit of a laughing stock really!

mbosnz · 26/09/2021 19:26

I hope that those saying that she has zero tact, diplomacy or eloquence will never vote again for the utter fucking twonk that is our current PM and governing party.

But of course, she's a 'person with a cervix/vagina, so she should 'be kind'. . .

Brindisi32 · 26/09/2021 19:26

I don’t think she’s done herself or the party any favours. We don’t need one word slurs to describe our current govt, there’s enough of that on social media.

Blossomtoes · 26/09/2021 19:30

So her claims are a bit of a laughing stock really!

Wow. I think they’re spot on.

She is in a professional role. The most successful politicians work well across party boundaries. She needs to be able to do more than a soundbite otherwise she’ll never succeed at doing anything in the House of Commons. By resorting to insults she risks alienating herself becoming an ineffective MP. Politics can often be quite tribal but there is a hell of a lot of back room conversations across the party divide. There are plenty of politicians that don’t agree with each other’s politics but get on very well. That is the game she doesn’t appear to be playing well.

TatoAndBeans · 26/09/2021 19:33

Gobby, unprofessional and a caricature of what middle-class people think appeals to working-class voters. She wears her “Look at me, I had a kid at 16 and haven’t got a single GCSE” line as a badge of honour, proof of how “relatable” she is; and the middle-class likes of Corbyn lap it up because they see it as exotic like in Pulp’s “Common People”.

Having grown up in a caravan, then in foster care, I worked incredibly hard to better my life. I kept my head down. I’m so aware of how grim my upbringing was, how my own mum had kids at 17. The last thing I want is that for my own daughter. So I find it incredibly patronising when the Owen-Jones-fanclub assumes that voters like me love Angela Rayner. People like her don’t make the lives of working-class people easier; they make it harder and just paint a bloody great “thick poor person” target on us.

I don’t agree with all of his policies (GRC, Brexit flip-flopping etc), but I identify with Keir Starmer far more. At least he’s a positive role model and has achieved something. At least if he had to meet foreign dignitaries, no matter how personally unpalatable, he’s be able to be professional. Can you seriously imagine Angela Raynor meeting with Merkel to discuss trade? She’s so ideologically wedded to slagging off the Tories, for being Tories, that she’d almost certainly oppose even any reasonable legislation. I’m no fan of the Tories, but there are times when you have to work with people you don’t like or don’t agree with. She’s shown herself to be completely incapable of that.

70smillie · 26/09/2021 19:34

She's not wrong of course..

However, she communicates as if she's a cross between a mindless internet troll and playground loudmouth (male or female). If she's like that in public now, God knows what she'd be like if she had any actual power.

The Tories could hardly be doing a worse job but between her & Starmer, today has been another less than glorious day for Labour.

emuloc · 26/09/2021 19:36

@Limejuiceandrum

Why can Boris say some really objectionable things and people don’t even bat an eyelid
This. He should never have become the leader of the tory party in the first place with his track record. Disgraceful, stomping into 10 Downing street with his girlfriend at the time. The man has no standards.
sst1234 · 26/09/2021 19:37

@Pixxie7

x2boys@ I find her refreshing and I don’t think that you can say that mumsnet is out of touch, in what way?
Guess you weren’t around in GE 2019 then. It is so moist of touch that it’s hard to know where to begin.
Blossomtoes · 26/09/2021 19:38

It is so moist of touch that it’s hard to know where to begin.

😂

Rosehip10 · 26/09/2021 19:38

Vulgar ranting about "tories" by labour politicians like her will not win any additional votes. Can anyone really imagine Raynor as deputy prime minister?

sst1234 · 26/09/2021 19:41

MN truly is a bubble, like others have said. People like Rayner make labour more and more unelectable every day (if that was even possible after 2019). Everytime she opens her mouth, the opposition loses more substance. Tory HQ are sitting there pissing themselves laughing at the gift that is Angela Rayner and her band of supporters living in a parallel universe.

Mothersister · 26/09/2021 19:42

@x2boys

Mumsnet can be so out of touch sometimes at times its laughable Shes ridiculous and she is one of the reasons why Labour cant get into power.
She’s totally ridiculous. I watched her being interviewed on breakfast tv last week. She just kept repeating the same thing on loop without actually saying anything of substance or answering the questions.
Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 26/09/2021 19:45

I massively admire Angela Rayner for how she has worked her arse off to get where she is now.

And yes, what she has said is largely true.

But this kind of carry on isn't what most people want from their politicians is it? They don't really want their leaders to be 'real' and 'say it how it is', unprofessionally slagging people off publicly. They want them to lead with decorum and a sophisticated level of debate. They want their leaders to be professional and appear to be in control. When you start ranting about your opposition you don't come across as being in control.

It's like school playground level of discourse. And of course Boris will just rise above it, further making Rayner look unhinged.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/09/2021 19:47

She thought she was so clever taking to Trevor Phillips, hammering the "I'm so passionate, me" post across, she made herself look even more of a tit.

You fucked up, own it, you are making it worse by being even more of a tit.

tickingthebox73 · 26/09/2021 19:47

@mbosnz

She's not wrong, though, is she?
yes she is, and completely lacking self awareness.

Labour is full of misogynism, racism and anti-semetism. People in glass houses and all that...

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/09/2021 19:48

Can anyone really imagine Raynor as deputy prime minister?

I think she's aiming higher, at least that's how it looked from the glossy interview in yesterday's Times.

sst1234 · 26/09/2021 19:49

@Mothersister

So true. That fact that Labour Party is now recognized for having this caricature of a woman as their deputy leader really is off putting for the people they claim to represent. Who, working class or otherwise would want to aspire to be represented by someone so dense and unpleasant. It’s actually telling of how Labour look down upon the working classes that they put this woman up to be someone who appeals to them. So insulting and derogatory.

FlyingScott · 26/09/2021 19:50

I’m still totally baffled about how she ever came to hold the position of shadow education secretary, never mind deputy leader.

sst1234 · 26/09/2021 19:51

@FlyingScott

I’m still totally baffled about how she ever came to hold the position of shadow education secretary, never mind deputy leader.
Haha, true. Her vocabulary only seems to extend to about three words, one of them being ‘scum’.
VitalsStable · 26/09/2021 19:53

The problem is when people like AR resort to ranting, raving and name calling the message gets lost and all you hear is the noise (and not a pleasant noise at that).

PicsInRed · 26/09/2021 19:58

She correct, but in a style which is more "drunken pub rant" than "leader of a nation".

She's demonstrably unable to keep her albeit understandable rage under control so she isn't fit for office. Sadly it looks like Labour still don't want the top job.

ginandbearit · 26/09/2021 19:59

I want to see anger and fury and passion from Labour and I want to see the tories shamed and challenged at all times..there's been too much 'professionlism' and corporate speak from Starmer and his team ..Rayner may not be everyones cup of tea ..who is ? ..but she has the potential to be a Barbara Castle of the future and really shake things up ...I laughed when I heard her say she wore the trousers in her marriage, now moved on ..
Im not a natural Labour voter but if she got the job I'd back her .
