I think her comments today were spot on, although not really professional she makes a valid point.

@beigebrownblue

out of all the posters on this thread, who voted for Boris?

It's your fault we ended up in this mess, I'm guessing it is seventy five per cent of the so called 'caring' parents on here.

Be ashamed.

Oh Grow up 🙄
Autumngoldleaf · 26/09/2021 18:38

I've said in another thread, labour needs more politicians like her but she seems so bitter and utterly vicious and frankly nasty and into jealous politics which helps no one.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/09/2021 18:38

She seems unhinged. Scary woman, power hungry, I know the type, if I'd meet her in a professional or personal context, I'd run, run, run.

That is how I feel about Boris Johnson. I wish more people felt the same, then maybe the UK wouldn't be in the fucking mess we are now.Angry

GoWalkabout · 26/09/2021 18:38

She's just on a mission to stand out this week, raising her profile. I don't agree with her politics or her way of expressing them and government requires more than student slurs or Boris' pop culture references. Can we demand more please?

LakieLady · 26/09/2021 18:39

@AlexaShutUp

Well, I do agree with her but I don't think she should have said what she said. It reflects badly on her, whatever we might think of Boris.
Initally, I thought she shouldn't have said it, but on reflection I rather like the fact that she came out and laid it on the line.

Johnson is a lying, cheating, racist, homophobic, serial adulterer. If that doesn't place him firmly in the "scum" category, I don't know what does. And she'll never lead the party, so it's not that important in the overall scheme of things.

I like an outspoken, maverick politician, it makes a change from all the bland people in suits who are scared to say anything before they've run it past a focus group.

And at least she's talking about the party she's opposed to. John Major called some of his own cabinet "shits".

FleasInMyKnees · 26/09/2021 18:39

It's not the first time, she called a conservative MP scum in Parliament and has been humiliated over her expenses.

Barbadossunset · 26/09/2021 18:40

I would also be careful on the Eton point. Lots of the labour party are also privately educated

I agree and also I think sneering at people for where they went to school is hitting below the belt. Most children have their school chosen by their parents.
However, although to Angela Rayner word such as ‘old Etonian’, ‘toff’, ‘upper class’, ‘posh’ are the ultimate insult, I’d have thought the deputy leader of the Labour Party could have come up with something better than that.

I agree with the pp who said that shouting abuse at Tories strikes a chord with young people.

Not me.
AndStand · 26/09/2021 18:41

You can't go around calling out the other party's namecalling by namecalling them.
I don't think Labour have done themselves any favours at all today.

Barbadossunset · 26/09/2021 18:41

8And she'll never lead the party, so it's not that important in the overall scheme of things*

LakieLady how do you know she won’t?

LakieLady · 26/09/2021 18:41

But Johnson is a man, so staying stupid and/or insulting stuff makes him a lovable maverick.

When a woman does it, she's some sort of deranged harpy who must be shunned, or pilloried.

Southernbellenot · 26/09/2021 18:42

@FleasInMyKnees

Yes I seen a clip of this. She was bollocked for it of the Speaker. It seems she can't control herself.
Autumngoldleaf · 26/09/2021 18:43

Lakie but she's not an out spoken maverick who wants to "drain the swamp".. She's deeply misguided and blinded by a poor education it seems and an inability to see beyond her own sad childhood.

Limejuiceandrum · 26/09/2021 18:44

Why can Boris say some really objectionable things and people don’t even bat an eyelid

Autumngoldleaf · 26/09/2021 18:45

And also many of her party voted in the tories didn't they so once again a Labour person of power is simply beating their supporters with a stick.
It's babyish and childish.

FOJN · 26/09/2021 18:45

Mumsnet can be so out of touch sometimes at times its laughable
"Shes ridiculous and she is one of the reasons why Labour cant get into power.*

Her comments were cringe inducing. I would not vote for any MP who spoke in that manner, no matter how awful the subject of their comments may be.

Brindle88 · 26/09/2021 18:46

She’s right. Boris is a fucking scumbag.

Limejuiceandrum · 26/09/2021 18:48

She should just say the comment was taken out of context

Limejuiceandrum · 26/09/2021 18:49

"it is absolutely ridiculous that people should choose to go around looking like letter boxes,"

Blossomtoes · 26/09/2021 18:49

@Limejuiceandrum

In what context would calling someone else scum be acceptable?
Limejuiceandrum · 26/09/2021 18:51

“The real reason why Blackpool is buzzing with glamorous women is surely that they scent victory. It is not the great smell of Brut that makes John Prescott attractive. It is the whiff of power. With the fickleness of their sex, they are following the polls."

skodadoda · 26/09/2021 18:51

@Kleptaklunky

I think she's absolutely vile, an uncouth loudmouth
*Kleptaklunky I think she's absolutely vile, an uncouth loudmouth

To be fair, that's how I feel about Boris Johnson*

But of course it’s ok because Boris Johnson does it in a posh accent.

Blinkingbatshit · 26/09/2021 18:51

I’m really unimpressed - I couldn’t vote for her. Though to be honest it’s their treatment of women I can’t get past. Labour are continuing to make themselves unelectable. Why o why can’t we have a sensible & united opposition😫

Limejuiceandrum · 26/09/2021 18:51

@Blossomtoes
Irony! 😂

LakieLady · 26/09/2021 18:52

@Barbadossunset

LakieLady how do you know she won’t?

Well, I don't know, but I think it highly unlikely.

The party is moving rightwards faster than a fishing boat that's caught its nets on submarine, they'll want a leader who's bland and on the right, like Steven Kinnock or Lisa Nandy. Unless Burnham finds himself a parliamentary seat pdq, he'd be a shoo-in.

There's no appetite for a loose cannon leader imo. Even amongst diehard old lefties like me. Mind you, I reckon there won't be many of us left soon. So many old-school members are being expelled or leaving in disgust that soon Ken Clarke or Dominic Grieve could be in with a chance of leading the party if they joined.
