I've just driven past 2 and both have cars queueing onto the road with people trying to get in. Idiots

Is that really what it comes down to? Others feeling they can judge others needs? This past 18 months has just been one long reason to judge others it appears.

It's got nothing to do with judgement but logic & the fact we don't exist in a vacuum.

Ambulances can't refuel, HGVs can't deliver supplies but I can happily go on my way without any impact And if you don't believe it will get that bad why stock up in the first place.

Oh for fucks sake please tell me you’re joking.

My fuel light is on. I need diesel for work and school run on Monday (15 miles each way and no public transport) so I’m fucked if I can’t get any!

People are panic buying fuel? Fuck my life.

@wellards

I don't blame people filling up. You snooze, you lose. I'm not normally so bloody minded, but right now, its everyone for themselves

And this illustrates the stupidity perfectly 🤦🏻‍♀️

Love how you only quoted that bit of my post.

I'm not a panic buyer. I filled my car up according to my normal routine and will continue to do so. So save your insults.

Taxi here costs loads to go 3 miles, about £10

@tigger1001 yes😄, what's causing the queues as witnessed by people on this thread & the images in the media. I mean no one is actually going to admit to panic buying are they? 😆

OP it's not the people blame the media!!!

How is it not the people? The Media is not queuing up buying petrol, people are.

@WindowsSmindows

I have to go to work, if i don't go I'll get sacked. I have to drive there and there is no public transport.
I filled up today.
What do you think I should have done?

That’s not panic buying though is it?

Fucking hell talk about a race to the bottom. Why shouldn't she want to go on her bloody break?

She can want all she likes, only she can’t get petrol, because people want fuel for work!

Such is life I’m afraid.

Shitfuckcommaetc · 24/09/2021 17:27

And also, no. I can't afford fuel if I spend the money on bloody taxis!

4.1 mile drive
Or 3.5 mile walk. So I'll have to be up at 4am. Brilliant
We'll probably be short staffed, as I know alot of people live further out than me.

Don't come to hospital tomorrow, I predict longer waits than usual.

Feeling smug about my electric car today, let's hope there aren't any national Grid problems this winter though (I'm currently thinking anything is possible Sad ).

Ah crap, I should have filled up last week. I am running low (about an eighth of a tank), but thought I'd do it on Monday. Bugger.

I had 63 miles left on my car and need it this weekend - I had to get fuel 🤷‍♀️ Not panic buying just getting my normal amount.

Took me 20 minutes at Sainsburys and they had signs saying pumps 1-14 had no fuel they had 2 pumps working.

Crazy crazy times

on another note my local Waitrose had no toilet roll again

Funnily enough our little island seemed short of fuel earlier in the week, a few stations had struggled to get fuel due to driver shortages etc. I had to fill up earlier in the week but am not sure what it is like now.

The best option is to only half fill the tank. We never, ever need a full tank. Let me explain.

Whenever I go from A to B, I have noticed they are never at the same height above sea level. Therefore, logically half the journey is going to going down and the other half is going to be going up. When I am going downhill, gravity will allow the car to roll forward and I do not need the engine running to achieve that. When I need to go uphill, I can engage the engine and use that power to drive the car uphill against gravity.

It is that simple. I use the empty top part of the tank to go downhill and the bottom half, which contains the fuel of course, to go uphill. Because I never need to completely fill my tank, my fuel bills are only 50% of what they would otherwise be.

I think its a big scaremongering tactic. Its kinda like theres something else going on in the world that they are trying to distract us from? Anyone else have that feeling or am I just suspicious haha

I know exactly what I wrote. Its probably the same as what a lot of drivers are thinking right now even if they don't type it on here to face the wrath of the pearl clutchers. I didn't panic buy so not sure how my personal opinion makes a difference to the queues?

I needed to stop for petrol this morning I got to Asda and they were queues out the forecourt, I thought "what's going on have they priced it really low?" I went to the next petrol station same thing, although I had to queue as only had 4 miles of petrol left and wouldn't have made it to my destination. Only when I got home and told DH did he inform me about the whole situation.
This is what happens when you don't read the news 🤣🙈

They are not idiots though - they like you want and need to use their cars and don't wish to be in a situation where they can't - its like the 'well I don't know why everyone is panic buying toilet rolls I just picked up an extra one just in case', when it is everyone buying one extra (or in this case, a day early) that causes the supply issue. Everyone thinks its other people's fault.

Report
linelgreen · 24/09/2021 17:43

We were caught out years ago with the last petrol supply issue so today filled both mine and Oh cars up and also took the kids cars and filled them up so if we run out we could always use theirs as they are at Uni so not taken cars with them. Petrol is something that does not go off so will not be wasted as it will get used and cannot imagine what we would do without a car to use as public transport is terrible here.

It's not pearl clutching, how can you still be confused. I'm criticising your personal opinion because it's stupid in the midst of a fuel shortage to think its everyone for themselves. Although I guess you're entirely self sufficient & don't rely on any other service or industry that also needs fuel to deliver said service.

I'm not convinced it's all panic buying. Round here, one very busy petrol station has had to close several times over the last couple of weeks due to not having deliveries. That means everyone diverts to the nearest one, which is tiny, so finishes up with queues very quickly. A second one then closed today, meaning that people were being forced to yet another small one, and we fairly quickly had queues on the road because four petrol stations' worth of customers were having to use two petrol stations - both about a third of the size of the bigger ones that had closed. It doesn't take much for there to be a very visible knock-on effect.

I was down to 15 miles in my tank and had to drive 20 miles to an appointment, so I had to find petrol. I tried three other locations before I managed to fill up at a fairly remote one - one was closed, one had no unleaded, and one had a massive queue that was causing carnage.

There's only so much panic buying of petrol people can do. Once your tank is full, it's full. Unless you fill cans - which I didn't see anyone doing today - people can't stock up, like they can with toilet roll and food.

Utterly ridiculous. Just like the bloody panic buying of stuff at the start of covid. so bloody irritating.
