I'm panicking here....community nurse on duty today have 1/4 of fuel and a 40 miles drive home tonight. 3 fuel stations I've just tried all out, other one had queues snaking down the road. It's utter madness.

I had another go at 7.15 am today but the queue was long and also at the garage there seemed to be car blocking the way in, no one was taking petrol and may be the pumps were blocked so I suspect they had none just like the other 2 garages which had run out yesterday.

It seems to have-by some miracle-stayed relatively calm here. We went to the supermarket yesterday and we pass 3 fuel stations on the way. One was closed. The other 2 were full forecourts but not queues for miles like on the news. Incredible really because the March 2020 toilet roll saga was definitely a thing here.
We usually stick £20 in over the weekend at some point. I think we will leave it until later in the week. Hope everyone who needs it manages to fill up though.

None of us truly know if the ‘idiots’ queuing to get petrol need it or not, there will be numerous reasons, work, school, included.
A woman posted on our local Faceache page last night…..’hopefully all you idiots have left some for me to be able to drive to get to work tomorrow’….feck off love, you’re not the only one who is now back in the office who also needed petrol.

I think all those queueing should be ritually whipped on the forecourt. Except me of course, my journey is of the utmost importance.

@FortunesFavour

Some ridiculous posts on this thread….yes yes, your need for petrol is more important than every other poor sod queueing, they are idiots, you are completely justified of course

It is a bit like I’m outraged at people at shop I’m in buying essentials threads we had

Wait, we went and got petrol yesterday as we have non and need it, how is that selfish. Should We let you get yours and don't bother? How is it any less selfish that you wanting to get it

You’re missing the point. If you needed petrol and would have been buying some anyway, then that’s absolutely fine, you’re not part of the problem. It’s the people panicking and rushing out to buy petrol when they wouldn’t have done so otherwise that are the problem.

I was away on a course all week and hadn't seen the news so knew nothing about all this.

Course was in a different part of the country and I was on empty when I got back home. I filled up when I got back...as I would normally do, what with the car being empty and all. Still blissfully unaware of the news just wondered why the local garage was so busy!

That was a normal full up for me....I'm not selfish. If I knew the news at the time I would still have filled up...errr as I would normally.

I can honestly say that I haven't panic bought any petrol, as our cars and van all run on gas, which is 52.9p a litre at Morrison's Grin

@PaulaTrilloe

Meant to go 200 miles to attend funeral on Monday. Hope I can cancel our hotel as don't have enough petrol to get there let alone get back. ☹️

Have I missed something overnight, has the whole country out of fuel? Why do you need to cancel, why can't you fill up your Carmody?

Think people are missing the point. We are in a situation where we have shortages of key items.
That is a sign our state is beginning to fail.
We need to stop minimising the seriousness of what is happening in the UK currently. It is not functioning as it was five years ago.

I agree. If everyone affected by this, which is basically all of us, wrote or called their MP to say what they’d said on here then we’d get a quicker solution. We and our MPs need to put a huge amount of pressure on this government to make Brexit actually work, or we need to rejoin the EU.
This is a politically-caused supply and labour problem. We shouldn’t have to all suffer as a nation just so the government can stick arrogantly to a political position while things fall apart (whatever our views on Brexit). Daily life needs to be workable for everyone in the UK, that is a much greater priority.

Typical MN, loads of self righteous telling others what to do, probably same people that told people what was essential shopping, it's similar to Facebook on here. Next they will be telling people what they can plug in and use.

It's clear that people on Mumsnet are just 'filling up'. It's everyone else who is panic buying.

Of course people will panic buy! I am not panic-buying, but I have changed my next hire car bookinv - because I am not confident there will be petrol - which is Shock IMO.

The Tories have actually broken things this time.

@MrsFezziwig you’re a real charmer aren’t you. Yes that’s right, you need to rebook mabelthorpe instead of the Savoy, that’s obviously what I meant 🙄 You can submit your holidays to me for approval right here.

The problem is panic buyers then make other people panic buy.

I always top up at the weekend. Usually half a tank which then lasts me the week.

This weekend though I had to drive to 4 different petrol stations before finding one (out of town) that actually had fuel! Because of that rather than my usual half a tank I filled the tank.

As I’m NHS staff, rely on my car to get to work and no idea if this will continue and I’ll find it just as hard to get fuel next weekend.

I’m really not a panic buyer but when you find it hard to find something you rely on most people will get some extra when they eventually do find it.

My tank was on red and i normally do a full tank. There was a massive queue at my local petrol station but it was all orderly. I'm only doing essential journeys for now. Unfortunately that involves a 32 mile round trip daily.

@Eatdrinkbemerry

HelpNeedCoolUsername8 I agree that luxury travel should be put on hold.

Are you going to be the arbiter of this then? So I’m ok to carry on if I’m going to a caravan in Mablethorpe, but if I’ve booked a weekend at the Savoy I can forget it?

A lot of the posters on here remind me of toddlers who have just learned to talk - an inordinate amount of noise but no actual logical thinking.

DH had to fill up on the way home from work in order to have enough fuel to drive back in to work tomorrow. It took him an hour and a half.
@sleepinghyena. Ours was second hand. Plenty of people on MN drive cars worth more than £3k, don’t be naive!
How much is your electric bill though?
