Our town is completely out of fuel!!! Apparently news crews were at 1 garage as the cars blocked the whole road for over an hour!!

We actually needed to fill up today. Dh was fuming about the queues. We are always this unlucky! Last year we run out of tp the night before panic buying started! I had planned to go and get some with the shopping next day. Same with petrol yoday🙄

I fill up every other Friday. I went and filled up today as normal. Yes, I queued for a bit. No biggie.

The problem is, you can't tell the difference between me and a panic buyer, so does that make me 'fucking selfish' too? My money is as good as anyone elses.

I don't blame people filling up. You snooze, you lose. I'm not normally so bloody minded, but right now, its everyone for themselves.

Where I live, no fuel stations have had to close. They are all open. However, they are all absolutely rammed and have been all day. I run one of them. I have a workshop and MOT station there too.
We have all tried to reassure people to no avail, staff who are trying to access the work bays are being abused by people who think they are jumping the queue completely forgetting we have other customers whose cars we are trying to fix. It's insane since there is no shortage of fuel, there are 6 fuel stations with in a mile/two mile radius all who are open and I don't believe any further afield have been affected either.
Human nature worries me as he press have not even indicated any shortages, what they have reported on is only affecting a small percentage of fuel stations, they have been really quite clear on the issue but still........the world goes mad......

Never thought I would be grateful for covid visiting us but thanks to that I've not been in my car for 10 days. So have enough fuel for Monday and maybe Tuesday (can't remember exactly how much is left) but if I can't fill up then no idea how I will get to work Wednesday.

No idea how the fuel situation is locally but fingers crossed I will get some early next week

I never really understand the end game same with panic buying food. If we really got to the point where there was no petrol or no food do people really think "phew there is anarchy on the streets, civil order is collapsing but thank god I topped up so I can drive to work & browse my food store when I come home"!

I'm sure there is a very fine line between panic buying, and planning ahead based on the information currently available.

@Shitfuckcommaetc

After not being able to fill up on the way back from work today I'm having to walk 3 miles to work to start at 6am to start my 12hr shift.
Cant afford a taxi and buses don't run that early

So yea, anyone with a full tank sitting on the driveway who fancies giving me a lift?!

Selfish fuckers.

A 3 mile taxi won't cost more than a fiver. If you can afford petrol you can afford a taxi.

If you only work 3 miles from home you're just as selfish as anyone panic buying by trying to get petrol, really.

So your luxury trip is more important than people getting to work or food deliveries?

Fucking hell talk about a race to the bottom. Why shouldn't she want to go on her bloody break?

@girlmom21

By us, the supermarket petrol stations are busy but the independents seem to be ok.

Fingers crossed it stays that way.

We are independent, as is the another near by, we are the busiest two in the area!

I do think its pot luck, if you have the branded stations near you that have been affected then yes, the other stations will be busier while they pick up the slack, fair enough. But it does seem the panic is everywhere, even in areas that havent been affected.

Yep, nurse here. Not enough petrol to get to work tomorrow, none in driving distance, no public transport. Noone willing to give me a lift as they all have no petrol either. So I hope anyone who panic bought is ok with a longer wait if they need a&e tomorrow...

I actually need to fill up over the weekend, otherwise I'm not going to have enough to get to work next week. You can't tell from looking at the queues who is panic buying and who is nearly on empty! Just like the photos of trollies filled with food last year- maybe that's their normal weekly shop? Maybe they had shopping for family members in there too? I felt guilty buying toilet roll, but we needed toilet roll!

I agree!

They are buying fuel they would have been buying anyway. So not panic buying.

Is that really what it comes down to? Others feeling they can judge others needs? This past 18 months has just been one long reason to judge others it appears.

Lots of posts on local FB pages saying fuel prices have gone up from 9am this morning, higher at 1om and increased again at 3pm.

So that's not helping the sense of urgency either.

I have to go to work, if i don't go I'll get sacked. I have to drive there and there is no public transport.
I filled up today.
What do you think I should have done?

There is a difference between filling up be cause you have to go to work, and filling up when actually you still have three quarters of a tank and no need to

Really?

The person in the quote was going to the fuel station anyway as they are going away. Not panic buying.

No doubt others are, but she didn't need to have that post directed at her - she's not causing fuel shortages by buying what she would have anyway.

This is just another, in a long line, of things that others feel they can judge. "Going away isn't as important as others" just no need.
