Carrying on from Thread 1.

Haven't seen the OP around, thread 1 is about to run out and someone asked for a new thread.

Prince Andrew is dodgy af, so greedy too

Walkingwounded · 19/09/2021 06:54

Yep they are.

Prince Andrew dodging being served with legal papers - cowardly. The Queen supporting him. Prince Charles in his 70s and completely out of touch. William & Kate just….dull.

What purpose do they serve? They haven’t modernised like many European RFs.

MyOhMySimon · 19/09/2021 06:54

The Queen enabling him is really the nail on the coffin for many people, I think. This was a chance to show duty to the people above family, that everyone keeps going on about.

He certainly has managed to stretch his salary incredibly far!

gibletjane · 19/09/2021 06:57

Tbh I never took much notice of them & just accepted the status quo. But during the pandemic it seemed to really show them as completely irrelevant & the notion of a Royal family is incredibly dated.

derxa · 19/09/2021 06:57

.

FrenchFancie · 19/09/2021 07:01

I think it’s very poor that PA is dodging service of papers on a technicality and basically makes him look like he has things to hide. If he was innocent he should be ready and willing to help uncover the truth. If he’s guilty he should face the music like anyone else!

MyOhMySimon · 19/09/2021 07:02

I think this is it for so many people. The pandemic really brought things to a halt and we were able to stop, listen and ponder long enough to see what has been there for a while.

TipseyTorvey · 19/09/2021 07:24

Agree 100% that the pandemics showed us exactly how pointless they are. They broke the rules to the get to the most preferred huge home, then Kate did a tour in ££££ coats when we were all locked down. I had some very low points homeschooling when locked down and that infuriated me. Pile on Andrew and his inability to sweat, Charles' dodgy funding and I've gone from mildly republican to full on raging republican. No need for them and the arcane cap doffing that goes on. They weren't anointed by God, they secured their wealth by war and thus far have hung onto it by appearing above everyone else. Once Liz passes, time for this nonsense to end.

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 19/09/2021 07:26

Royalists are dying out. My parent's generation (in their 80s) won't be around much longer, and the younger generations don't seem to want the monarchy, and see it for what it is- an antiquated institution with no place in a modern society.

I guess the way to look at it is, if the Royal Family concept was new and was currently on the table to vote for, would anyone actually vote for it?

Saying it's been around for ages and that we can't get rid of it as it's part of our history is rubbish. If that was the case then things would never change and we would still live in a country where slavery is legal.

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 19/09/2021 07:27

And honestly, who wants Charles as King? I've never met anyone who actually likes him.

William comes across as just as bad.

MyOhMySimon · 19/09/2021 07:31

I think William could be worse. He's just more...(for lack of a better word) charming, I suppose. Being younger, more modern and all, as they say.

OP posts:
Tossblanket · 19/09/2021 07:31

It'll end with the passing of the Queen.

I like Charles. However there is no choice. He is heir to the throne.
gibletjane · 19/09/2021 07:32

I agree after the Queen dies it will have to be reformed.

Whinginadeville · 19/09/2021 07:37

What a vile thread it's also the unpleasant minority shouting the loudest

God I hope so!

The utter farce of Prince Andrew dodging being served with legal papers is just making people very angry, and proving that the Royal Family are above the law.

I'm embarrassed to be represented by this awful family.

Did you miss the first thread or are you a stealth hall monitor?Wink

If you hurry, thread 1 is still open for you to post your disapproval.

I disagree with having a monarchy because it is inherently unfair. No matter how talented someone is, they can never be HOS because they're not royal. On the flipside, if the monarch is thick /useless /unpopular it doesn't matter, we don't get a say.

The greediness of the Royals is also sickening. Read 'And what do you do?' by Norman Baker, its jawdropping.

The sycophantic way in which the Royals are treated is annoying too - particularly by toadying reporters and journalists.

The fact that the Queen got Balmoral exempted from the Scottish govt new Green Energy plans - the only person in Scotland to be exempt.

The way MPs /police / armed forces swear an oath of loyalty to the monarch, their heirs and family - surely it should be to the country and the people.

Walkingwounded · 19/09/2021 07:47

I was pretty indifferent to them until a few years ago.

But Brexit, the pandemic…. It makes you think about your country.

I doubt they’ll reform. They just seem stuck in a timewarp of entitlement. When the rest of the country has moved on.

What is vile & unpleasant about questioning the monarchy? It's 2021

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 19/09/2021 08:16

@MyOhMySimon Are the self-appointed prefects out again? They only like royal threads where they can slag off the Sussexes to their hearts' content.

Mention that perhaps the entire institution is corrupt and deserving of criticism and suddenly we're vile and they're running with tales to MNHQ.

What's most surprising is when HQ actually listen to them. I've seen far worse threads and comments than what you posted yesterday left to stand but I guess the prefects are not so bothered about those Hmm

I have read the book. It is shocking what they get away with. What a waste of money.
MyOhMySimon · 19/09/2021 08:23

Indeed. @BeckyWithTheAverageHair
Although I think MNHQ didn't want to be dragged into any potential lawsuit by the RF or well-connected journalists, so erred on the side of caution. But the prefects? You're right about their interest and their presence here. I hope they slept, at least, before resuming their duties.

Does anyone think PW is ‘charming’? He seems cold and boring. PH was the charming one, until recently (and now I see it was all due to the magic of his PR team)
