Carrying on from Thread 1.

Haven't seen the OP around, thread 1 is about to run out and someone asked for a new thread.

OP posts:

@Roussette

Going back to that link....isn't it ridiculous that PC can say "nope, I'm not going to work at Head Office even though the job is based at Head Office. I'm going to work on the other side of the country and leave the 775 roomed premises empty most of the time, and yes I know £370million is being spent on it."

You couldn't make it up. In any other job you'd be sacked!

It's entirely ridiculous but he'll justify it by letting the plebs noss round it. No doubt charging them through said noss for the privilege.
Roussette · 05/10/2021 10:43

But will they be able to go into all 775 rooms?!
I bet a tour of BP is about 1% of that!

CathyorClaire · 05/10/2021 11:01

TBF even 77 rooms full of eye searing rugs and bling would be a bit of a marathon.

Maybe Charlie will offer two day or week long passes Grin

CathyorClaire · 05/10/2021 11:04

Ha.Read that as 10% Grin

Surely even Charles won't expect the plebs to cough for an eight room blink and you miss it tour?

Roussette · 05/10/2021 12:09

I've just had a look, you see 19 rooms on a BP tour!

It's the other 756 I'd be interested in!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/10/2021 16:37

Why not? After all he expects folk to pay thousands to have dinner with him - and, according to biographers, to sign yet another cheque "for his charities" while they're there

There was a beauty from one of them, telling how he'd do an Eeyore expression over the less than hoped for cheques from the already-fleeced, upon which they'd get out their pens again to correct their "mistake" ... but then, the gullible are always among us

BP is the place of work for 800 people. It has 775 rooms. These include 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. Would you really like a tour of dreary offices and bedrooms? I don't know if you're being serious or not.
Roussette · 05/10/2021 17:25

I was joking derxa

But I've always wanted to go where people don't want you to go. I see a cordoned off area and think hmmm I wonder what's behind that.
That's just me {grin]

It will be interesting if Charles does turn it into the museum he wants to.
800 staff sounds gobsmacking
I wonder how they feel about him basing himself at Highgrove and just popping to 'the office' occasionally...

Seems the apple hasn't fallen far from Great Gan-Gan's tree...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/10/2021 18:25

No surprise indeed, Roussette, though it's not exactly "new" info, but the result of what was (scandalously) agreed coming into operation

Again, what I want to know is what happens when the "10 year uplift" to the Sovereign Grant - supposedly to pay for repairs to Buck House - expires. In theory a temporary deal means just that, but with the agreement that the grant can never go down ...

Roussette · 07/10/2021 18:35

Someone said it is just temporary uplift for the repairs. I do hope so, or will we have to conveniently forget that fact in many years time?!

Everyone has suffered through covid, what a shame the RF can't suffer with us.

CathyorClaire · 07/10/2021 20:42

It's all so subservient.

Don't know how the woman has the gall to look the covid-weary nation she's skimming in the face.

Maybe she could sell her gold piano, that might bring in a few quid to keep her and her family from going hungry because they're so poor.
Roussette · 09/10/2021 14:49

Is this a joke?

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/inside-queens-four-day-bank-25170984

Just for once, couldn't the RF make a gesture and pay for this themselves? It's going to cost £10-15million Shock
And they have just had a covid bailout to top up their funds.

They're having a laugh. The country is on its knees but no matter lets just splurge £15million on this. Shock

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/10/2021 16:38

I don't know, Roussette, but it's usual to start these things with "HM doesn't want any fuss" and then dangle this sort of stuff as a flyer to see what people think before going ahead.
It reminds me of a thing in the Mail, god help us, suggesting that a new royal yacht was practically a done deal with various funders on board (sorry, lousy pun Grin), and of course that didn't happen either - though doubtless Charles will be pushing for one behind the scenes

Never mind though ... it would bring in much more than it costs in tourism, don'tcha know?!! Wink

Roussette · 09/10/2021 17:31

but it's usual to start these things with "HM doesn't want any fuss"

That made me laugh!

I know this has to be celebrated but it is sounding too much like the Brexit Celebration Festival for my liking!
Just a bit OTT

And what a great gesture it could be if the RF actually gave back and paid for it....

Duck... there's a pig flying overhead!! pigs might fly

CathyorClaire · 09/10/2021 20:57

Took the words out of my mouth Grin

Those plans are insane Angry. No doubt the minor royals are lining up for their go at the trough though (Yes, Peter Phillips. Looking at you and the £750k you trousered for the utter failure that was the Patron's Lunch)

The new Royal gin palace yacht is still a go as far as I'm aware. More insanity Angry The last one was decommissioned for very good reasons.

AnnunciataZ · 09/10/2021 21:49

I don't mean to be crass but the woman is 95. What happens if she doesn't make it to next June?

Roussette · 09/10/2021 21:54

I thought this @AnnunciataZ

A huge waste of money. How long someone lives is nothing to do with big parties... anything could happen

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/10/2021 22:18

The new Royal gin palace yacht is still a go as far as I'm aware

Dear god, it seems you're right; I just found this, so it seems Charles really is chivvying for yet another luxury when his turn comes: www.mby.com/news/royal-yacht-britannia-cost-to-build-115519

Amusingly they're still pretending it will be available to others, just as Britannia was supposed to be a hospital ship during hostilities. What a shame that in the first gulf war it was said to be too far way, and in the Falklands they claimed it burned the wrong fuel (though apparently other ships which went burned the same thing)

As for what they'll do if HM doesn't make it to the Platinum Jubilee - call it a celebration of her life perhaps? Or maybe hold the plans over for the next coronation?

Roussette · 09/10/2021 22:26

£200million for a royal yacht, and £50million for jubilee.

Nice Shock

CathyorClaire · 11/10/2021 08:52

And now Charles who is never ever going to be affected by XR and Insulate Britain's ruinous disruption tells us he understands it and that he's an eco-warrior too running his Aston Martin on cheese and wine.

Clown prince doesn't get close.

Agreed. Charles and his family have an elephant-sized carbon footprint which will increase dramatically if they succeed in getting their 'royal' yacht.

None of them has any business lecturing the rest of us on the environment, I don't know how they have the front tbh.

Maybe they should instead lecture the Queen about her lobbying to secure an amendment to Scottish green energy law, www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-58005875

  • ensuring that she with her 50,000 acres in Balmoral is exempt from the legislation that applies to every other landowner.
