@MyCatHatesEverybody Sainsburys own are pretty reliable.

And if you can get tinned jersey royals you’re really laughing.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 08/09/2021 21:23

Camping pie. Fry some sausage, add beans and a tin of potatoes. Surprisingly nice and one pot so easy to do if you are in a tent!

My kids have asked for it since we’ve been home 😂

UmpteenthTime · 08/09/2021 21:23

Transported back to 1976.
Tinned potatoes as a side to Toasty Toppers washed down with some Cremola Foam. Happy days.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 08/09/2021 21:23

As a comparison with an actual real life potato go, they’re not great. But as a tinned potato - and entirely separate thing - they’re great. Reminds me of camping holidays!

Abetes · 08/09/2021 21:25

Had them loads as a child and absolutely loved them. Haven't had them for years but I'm now craving them and have went dh out to find some.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

So instead of buying potatoes and preparing them, you take a detour via the food processing and packaging industries?
For certain particular purposes yes.

And I'm from Lincolnshire! 😄

Clarice99 · 08/09/2021 21:26

🤢🤢🤢

Tinned potatoes are the worst thing ever. Slimy, weird texture and they smell awful.

FamBae · 08/09/2021 21:27

They are great sliced and pan fried with onion & fry light and made into an omelette, one of my favourite lunches back in the old slimming world green days.

BrilliantBetty · 08/09/2021 21:27

Good to have in the cupboard.
Occasionally eaten.

They are fine. I use them to bulk up a veggie curry. Or sometimes cook them up with spinach and cumin, then roast a little.

diddl · 08/09/2021 21:27

Chicken in white sauce with rice as a caravan meal!

Not M&S for us though-think it was called Chunky Chicken!

Corned beef hash, sandwich spread sandwiches, potted beef sandwiches-great memories!

OneMoreStitch · 08/09/2021 21:28

We added a tin to our rotating "emergency" supply of nonperishables a while back. I feared they wouldn't be much good, but DH and I were pleasantly surprised, so I ordered another couple tins.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 08/09/2021 21:30

Also, as mentioned by an earlier poster, great for being resistant starch.

Soontobe60 · 08/09/2021 21:31

@GrealishHairband

Bloody love tinned potatoes. Or ‘pebbles’ as they were known in my childhood home. Haven’t had them in years. DH turns his nose up when I rave about them. Pebbles, tinned carrots and tinned peas. Bloody luvverly.
Oooh tinned carrots, drain, heat up in a jug the microwave, add a knob of butter (NOT Marge). Plenty of fresh ground black pepper then mash with a fork.
Curlygirl06 · 08/09/2021 21:35

You can buy tinned cream in Asda, well you could recently ish. I've got a tin in the fridge, bloody lovely.

Itschocolatehonest · 08/09/2021 21:36

Have to agree with tinned jersey royals too! although I don’t often find them but they’re lovely!

Soontobe60 · 08/09/2021 21:37

They’re actually nutritionally great, more so than potatoes that may have been picked months before you get to eat them. Someone with arthritis or limited room to store fresh produce will find tinned veg much easier to use that fresh. Don’t be a snob.
Thatsplentyjack · 08/09/2021 21:38

What you want is frozen mash. The very best for a really good potatoey taste is ikea, then tescos own. I've tried many different types, including branded and these two are the very best. Add little butter, milk or cream, and salt. Honestly best discovery of my life.

EatSprayGlove · 08/09/2021 21:39

@Constellationstation

Oh my god. I love them. I have them with mayonnaise
I had this at least once a week for approx 6 years! Can't stomach the idea of it now annoyingly.

Yup. I don't go buy a cow when I fancy a burger.

starfishmummy · 08/09/2021 21:40

@AuntLydiasNewHairdo

Do M&S still do that chicken in white sauce? Fond memories but for the life of me I can't remember what my mother did with it.
Don't know about M&S but sainsbirys do. I have a tin in my cupboard!
MyCatHatesEverybody · 08/09/2021 21:40

@KhoshkaKatya thanks I will check them out!

sluj · 08/09/2021 21:41

I've just seen your can get 12 tins of cream for less than £10 on Amazon. I'm very tempted but what if its not as nice as I remember??

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/09/2021 21:41

Used to love them as a child! Might give them a go. They come up in a lot of Jack Monroe recipes I think.

starfishmummy · 08/09/2021 21:41

I thinkntje trick with things like Tinned potatoes and Tinned Cream is not to think of them as versions of the fresh item but as something completely different.

Wandafishcake · 08/09/2021 21:44

well. I have never tried these. I am quite excited to go and buy a tin tomorrow Grin
