MMmmmmmmmmm !! Does that answer your question ? Really versatile -cut them up for traybakes, roast them for a quick meal and just empty them into a pan when you’re looking for something quick. Lovely.

I have never in my life had one (or really even seen a tin) but this is the second online board that has mentioned them in the last week! I may have to start looking and try them. The other board mentioned how good they are in a curry too.
namesnamesnamesnames · 09/09/2021 18:59

I love them! Fab as a last minute addition to meals too like curry, omelette etc to bulk it up.

Christinatherabbit · 09/09/2021 19:00

Yes! Although I think they are gross just heated up.
Amazing in a curry or casserole. After reading this may have to try frying/roasting!!!

Whatwouldnanado · 09/09/2021 19:04

M&S lamb Rogan Josh in a tin was popular when I was a kid. Don't think they fo it now. I have several tins of M&S mince in onion gravy in the lockdown larder, good for cottage pie.

MacmillanMO · 09/09/2021 19:15

I love them too.

justthecat · 09/09/2021 19:20

Think it’s time to buy shares in tinned new potatoes 😂

OverweightPidgeon · 09/09/2021 19:31

I was a poor eater as a child but when we went camping mum used to heat up tinned beef stew with tinned potatoes and I wolfed it down .
They’re also delicious in a corned beef hash.

userxx · 09/09/2021 19:34

@LadyMonicaBaddingham

They are an absolute game-changer in the slow-cooker, which in my opinion never really cooks potatoes terribly well!
Don't they just fall apart ? My potatoes are always lovely in the slow cooker, cut them big and leave the skin on.
Pebbledashery · 09/09/2021 19:35

I'm happy to say after seeing this thread tonight's dinner is fish, rocket salad and roasted tinned potatoes with olive oil, thyme, parsley and salt and pepper... Absolutely delicious.

@AuntLydiasNewHairdo

Do M&S still do that chicken in white sauce? Fond memories but for the life of me I can't remember what my mother did with it.
Yes, it's great on rice or pasta.
Rosejasmine · 09/09/2021 19:45

I’ve never tried them, maybe I will now. I’m excited!

sashadasher · 09/09/2021 19:48

On caravan holiday I remember a whole chicken in a can! Sounds disgusting and as an adult doubt I'd even try it but as I recall at time it tasted pretty good.

bellie710 · 09/09/2021 19:49

I first heard about these when I was doing a fast, they are so low in calories and you can just roast them in a tiny bit of oil. Still nothing like proper roast potatoes but I was pleasantly surprised how good they were!

bluetoothroboticgrapefruit · 09/09/2021 19:51

@userxx there's not much that makes a tinned potato fall apart tbh.

AliceMck · 09/09/2021 19:54

Havnt eaten any since I was a child but I remember them being ok. I had a couple of tins of them when we first went into lockdown as back ups but never ate them. My elderly neighbour went mad for them when I gave them to her.

PeachyPeachTrees · 09/09/2021 19:55

I love tinned potatoes and have a couple of cans in the cupboard for when I'm short on time.

userxx · 09/09/2021 19:56

Really? Bomb proof potatoes, will give them a go next time 👍

Curlygirl06 · 09/09/2021 19:59

@EvilPea

I got so excited when I saw some in tesco.

Dh was just confused

Yep, that's what I've got in the fridge.
SolitaryTree · 09/09/2021 20:01

I’ve never tried them but I’ll be buying some when next at the shops!

Carpedimum · 09/09/2021 20:03

Gross. I’d only eat them if I was starving, and I don’t mean just really hungry, I mean if I was scavenging for food in a post-apocalyptic scenario. As another poster mentioned, Idahoan packet mash on the other hand… yum!

notoldjustpastyoung · 09/09/2021 20:04

How can you say that? They are disgusting, anyway they are used.

jwpetal · 09/09/2021 20:17

I love tinned potatoes. Fried in butter with salt and pepper. My husband thinks it is strange, but we grew up travelling/camping and this was our go to staple.

Bertiebiscuit · 09/09/2021 20:21

YANBU - they have their place, I had some in my ongoing store cupboard before lockdown and was mighty happy to have them, just need a bit of imagination to make them tasty, bit that's true of most ordinary spuds

LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 09/09/2021 20:26

They're great to make Bombay potatoes with but give them a rinse under the tap first, the water they're in tastes a bit "tinny"
