And yes to the tinned cream, as kids we used to pass it round shaking the tin vigorously to make it thicken up, cant describe the taste, just unique and yummy. Carnation made it and i have some in my cupboard think it used to be called sterilised cream but is now called tinned cream, Sainsburys have it sometimes alongside the evap milk also have a tin of carnation caramel the cream is a very similar label. Think we used to get one years ago with a blue and white striped label.

Yes that's the one @stepawayfromtheecclescakes

GraceMelbury · 09/09/2021 08:23

I use tinned potatoes in my soupmaker - they work really well to make a quick leek and potato soup.

Tvci5 · 09/09/2021 09:44

Never tried them, now on my shopping list 👍🏻

SantanaBinLorry · 09/09/2021 09:44

Put them in a row on skewers, dab dry then brush with garlic olive oil before barbecuing until crispy. Best bbq side ever.

This. Is. Genius!

I normally microwave jacket spuds, halve, brush with oil/butter and grill on the bbq. This ^ is even easier as i can get the kids to skewer their own spuds!

Firstdateshotel · 09/09/2021 10:18

BBQ'd tinned spuds sounds AMAZING.

@DarceyDashwood

Chuck them in a roasting tin, spray with Fry Light and bung a load of dried rosemary on them and cook in oven until crispy. So tasty!!!!
I am definitely trying this!
Youdoyoutoday · 09/09/2021 11:23

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I've added tinned potatoes to my shopping list!!

I haven't actually had them in quite a few years, but used to eat them quite a bit when money was a bit tighter. You've reminded me of them now! I found they were a good way to make really quick mashed potatoes! Lovely with butter and garlic!

username80 · 09/09/2021 14:13

Cut in half spray with oil and coat in cajun seasoning, chuck them in the oven, delicious.

furbabymama87 · 09/09/2021 14:51

Edible, nothing special.. Surprised you've never heard of them till now.

TinnedPotatoesRock · 09/09/2021 15:04

I remember trying to use up the contents of the food cupboards before a move, I made what I now call Spanish chicken. Tinned potatoes sliced and fried in oil with red pepper, garlic and onion, brown the chicken thighs and transfer to an oven dish. Cover with passata mixed with ketchup and sweet smoked paprika and sprinkle over some diced chorizo. Also love them sliced and fried before putting in a Spanish omelette, or just roasted whole in the oven.

Now seems a good time to mention this:

Fray Bentos Breakfast Pie

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/09/2021 15:35

They are an absolute game-changer in the slow-cooker, which in my opinion never really cooks potatoes terribly well!

Buttercup1954 · 09/09/2021 17:41

Perfect for currys and the like.

drpaddington · 09/09/2021 17:58

Don't have time to read the comments so sorry if this has already been mentioned, but tinned potatoes cooked in an air fryer with a tiny bit of oil make gorgeous 'roast' potatoes!

Davros · 09/09/2021 17:58
@Davros I do low FODMAP and I have them with no consequence. So unless you know you have particular problems with resistant starch they can be fine.
How exciting, I'm going to try them. The suggestions on here sound amazing. My "diet" is also low fibre and my feeling is that is more relevant than low FODMAP. I hope I'm not proved wrong!

EvilPea · 09/09/2021 18:04

I got so excited when I saw some in tesco.

Dh was just confused

When I lived in my first flat I used to make a vegetable curry with tinned spuds, tinned carrots, tinned green beans, tinned mushrooms & a jar of patkas curry sauce. Delicious & really quick.

cherish123 · 09/09/2021 18:23

Never had them. Didn't know they existed until I had to buy them for the food bank advent box.

bigmumsymcgraw · 09/09/2021 18:25

Add mayonnaise and chives to drained tinned potatoes - so nice

Snozzlemaid · 09/09/2021 18:38

Yes, love them. Especially with an 80's salad and salad cream.
