DH charged me for Steak...but I'm a Veggie!

Not irate/upset/annoyed but just wanted to see how others would feel if it were them...

DH is a lovely guy but has his quirks (don't we all). For context, we split the household bills and big purchases 50/50 so he transfers the money into my account on the 1st of each month. For anything else, we just buy what we want/need out of our own money.

A few weeks ago, DH and I had some beauty treatments by a self-employed beautician who has a beauty room at home but is also mobile. I've only visited her a handful of times before, so we're friendly, but not friends. Before we left, she was telling us about other treatments she does, so DH and I booked in for a massage at our home (DH said he would pay as a treat) which took place a couple of days ago. As we were leaving, DH asked her if she liked steak, to which she said yes, so DH told her that he would make a steak dinner for her (DH loves to cook). I thought it was a bit odd offering to make dinner for her when she was coming over to work, but it was a friendly enough gesture by him. Please note this was his gesture, not mine. I would've just given her a tip at the end!

Anyway, the day of the massage arrived; DH went to the butchers and bought the steak. While I was enjoying my massage, he was cooking away in the kitchen. Beautician ate and enjoyed the steak and DH was loving the compliments.

Yesterday morning, 1st of the month, direct debits due, I checked my bank account and found that DH had transferred £20 less than he should have. When I asked him why, he told me, "for the steak!" I wouldn't have minded but I'm a vegetarian so I don't even eat bloody steak!

Yes, he paid for my massage...thought it was a treat, but it cost me £20 in the end. Still a bargain I suppose! What would you think?

@knittingaddict
I looked at her history. It’s insanely boring and innocuous. Unless she decided to set herself up over years so that when she finally decided to come out with all guns blazing she had a good history!

Eh? I've just advanced searched op (usually frowned upon) and most of her posts are on this thread! She doesn't have years of posting history at all.
Unless you know her under another name, of course? 🤔

Excelthetube · 05/09/2021 20:30

@GreyhoundG1rl
I did it early on when the thread appeared Maybe not years. But months of standard mumsnet stuff!

Excelthetube · 05/09/2021 20:31

Anyway it’s irrelevant really! I am not trying to troll hunt
It was a funny thread. Take it as that. Cheered me up on a shit day

You must have searched a different username.

Excelthetube · 05/09/2021 20:33

@GreyhoundG1rl
Shock
Maybe I did!!!

MeredithGreyishblue · 05/09/2021 20:34

@GreyhoundG1rl no, they go back months, I've just looked.

Tillow4ever · 05/09/2021 23:14

Well I am off to the bookies in the morning to place a £20 bet on this being a classic “things that never happened”.

I might have just about believed the OP if it wasn’t for all the super weird comments/updates going forwards.

Definitely a bid for Classics. And of course we've had several posters dutifully calling for it 😬
Tillow4ever · 05/09/2021 23:32

Yup - like clockwork really! It was funny initially, but adding in the stealth boasts about working hard so they can afford nice 5* holidays, comments about her ample bosom, microwaving the steak just seemed to be more & more ways of keeping the thread going.

ClawedButler · 06/09/2021 10:14

I'm not sure where people are getting this idea that the OP's marriage is cold and unloving. Other folk can have totally different setups to yours, but still be perfectly happy. Just because it's not what you do, doesn't make everything a complete lie.

FunTimes2020 · 06/09/2021 10:18

How very odd. Is he nudging his way towards a threesome? Hmm

Malin52 · 09/09/2021 13:15

I still guffaw that the title of this thread is entirely focused on whether it's unreasonable for a vegetarian to be made to pay for meat.
'Why yes!' one would probably say.
Completely omitting the totally bananas situation that led to the OP paying for a steak because her DH wanted to cook it for a travelling masseuse and watch her eat it in between rubbings down in her own home.

zingally · 09/09/2021 14:31

I do private tutoring in other peoples homes... If I did the tutoring, and was then offered a steak dinner, while the family sat and watched me eat it... I'd run a fucking mile!

That's... kinda sleezy... isn't it?

TemptedToSleepInTheShed · 09/09/2021 15:51

Did your husband give the butcher a nice shoulder and back rub when he went to pick up the steak?

Backtoblack1 · 19/12/2021 07:51

WTAF? Grin

AnnieSmithson · 19/12/2021 07:56

I think maybe you both live in a different universe, this sounds like something I’d watch in a comedy show - who cooks steak for a beautician??? 🤣🤣

Kuachui · 19/12/2021 08:51

@backtoblack1 I think 3 months is long enough to not bring this post back up 😂

knittingaddict · 19/12/2021 09:46

ZOMBIE
ZOMBIE
ZOMBIE

Cupcakeschocolate · 19/12/2021 10:20

I don't even know where to start with this...

ChrimboGateauxCatto · 19/12/2021 10:28

Is this actually real, or is it the bizarre fantasy of a steak loving masseuse? I find it really worrying/concerning. It's not appropriate on any level.

rainbowmash · 19/12/2021 10:37

I agree - if I went around to a private home as a professional and someone made an elaborate meal for me to eat ALONE... I'd pretty much assume I was about to be murdered or talked into a sex act. Or that they were weirdos with no idea how to human.

This is such an unbelievable one but what a weird thing to invent???

BigYellowHat · 19/12/2021 10:41

Number one, weird about cooking the steak dinner. Number two, weirder that she accepted. Number three, DH is a tightwad. Number 4, why don’t you just share money. I’ve literally never understood couples that do this. It’s a marriage, not living in a house share FFS.

RobertsYourFathersBrother · 20/12/2021 06:43

Right?! The story took a turn I was not expecting. What an odd thing for him to do? You're paying her for a service she provides. It's an even exchange. Bizarre.

Bellsandsnow · 20/12/2021 07:41

You're married and yet do this.... Do you have or want kids? This is such a surreal set up. Does that not do your head in having to keep score all the time? Do you eat together?
