Joe Lycett should not be presenting GBSB

Joe Lycett is a horrible misogynist. He has no place hosting GBSB. If he is allowed to continue then it proves that society does not care about misogyny.

Utterly ridiculous argument as usual.
Just because you know some lovely trans people doesn’t mean that any male who fancies it should be allowed into female spaces. My dads very nice too but since he is male he stays in the male space.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 27/08/2021 22:46

But on the point.
I’ve always found Lycett funny but any man who says that women not wanting to share spaces with males is just them talking ‘nonsense’ is a misogynist prick and can get to fuck.

OhWhyNot · 27/08/2021 23:01

Oh please it’s humorous not everyone’s sense of humour but it’s not serious

He is nasty about men too

Some black and Asian comedians make jokes about white people because they can now it’s no hardship that it can’t be done the other way it’s not really comparable

MarioPants · 27/08/2021 23:03
@MarioPants WTF does this have yo do with trans rights?! Confused
Because that's essentially what this thread boils down to.

WhenSheWasBad · 27/08/2021 23:04

^Sorry I don't understand.
I felt he was sexist before all this.
I am free to think that.
I would prefer sewing bee with a different presenter. Again I am free to think that.
My views will have zero impact on his TV career or anything.
And if you think all comedians get it right then. That's very strange! They're just people^

Of course you are free to think whatever the hell you want.

Do I think he should lose a job due to 10 year old jokes? No. And that is the whole point of the op.

I was pointing out that he is a professional and will most likely not make rape jokes on a BBC sewing program.

Obviously comedian’s get things wrong. We all do. Should they lose their job when the push a joke too far? No (in my opinion).

Can you explain the rape joke? I don't get it!

But any man who wants to enter female spaces for whatever terrible reason isn't going to go through all the effort and heartbreak that trans women do when they can just open the door.
WhenSheWasBad · 27/08/2021 23:08

nice do you mean the “the judicial system says it’s definitely still rape if you leap out and yell “surprise”. See you in 10 years”

Is that the one you don’t get?

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 23:10

WhenSheWasBad

OP or anyone else should not what.

Not think oh she shouldn't be on a family show?
Not say that?
Not say that to others?
Not say it on the internet?

He's not going to lose his job because a few women on one thread on one board on MN say that! You think there's a danger he will in fact lose his job because of this thread?;

Ok.

I don't think cut her face man should be presenting a quiz show on the telly.
I don't think boy George should have been employed as a judge on a popular prog.

Is the sky falling in? No.

Why should comedians joke about what they fancy but others not be allowed to express their feelings about it?!

Thank god for the hide button 🙄

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 23:10

Oh and PLEASE explain the rape joke!

You get it, what an I missing?!

MarioPants · 27/08/2021 23:11
@MarioPants but this isn’t the issue. I’m sure most trans people are perfectly lovely but allowing any man who can self identify as a woman into safe spaces is opening women up to a myriad of dangers. Much like “not all men” would seek to abuse this, there are some that will.

Are you aware that nearly all trans women keep their penis?

I haven’t been through what you’ve been through but I’ve been harassed and assaulted and I don’t feel comfortable undressing or lying vulnerable in a hospital bed next to anyone with a penis
I'd be interested in seeing your evidence for that statement.
Also are you aware that there are plenty of male doctors and nurses who will treat you and see you naked? And mixed sex wards?

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 23:11

No the one about it's funny if you think about it.

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 23:12

No I get the jumping out one. I don't find it amusing but I get it.

HermioneKipper · 27/08/2021 23:13

@MarioPants I can’t understand why you’d want to make it easier though?

And just because it doesn’t trigger you, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t affect any other woman who’s been through trauma. Like me.

So please don’t assume you know everything about how other women feel about this issue.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 27/08/2021 23:14

Mariopants

Males have posed as priests in the past. Male paedophiles have married women to access their children. Do you really think they wouldn’t pop on a dress?
You do realise being a transwomen doesn’t require any medication or surgery at all, right?
If your friends are old school transsexuals then they are very different from the current crop.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 27/08/2021 23:15

Nicegerbil
Yes I’m with you.
The jumping one is offensive but is clearly a joke with a punchline etc- the other one is very strange.

OhWhyNot · 27/08/2021 23:15

If you don’t get it you don’t get it

What do you want me to explain? we find different things amusing. I can hear his voice in my head him saying it and that it’s so wrong is amusing

WhenSheWasBad · 27/08/2021 23:16

Why should comedians joke about what they fancy but others not be allowed to express their feelings about it

Because context is everything.

If you choose to go and see Jimmy Carr or follow Jo Lycett on Twitter you know what you are letting yourself in for.
They don’t have to appeal to all of the U.K. just to their fan base. Plus they are comedian’s, the public know not to take what they say seriously.

With comedy context is everything. There are some situations where it isn’t appropriate.

HermioneKipper · 27/08/2021 23:17

@MarioPants the statement about many trans women keeping their penis? It’s true. They freely admit it.

Of course I’m aware that male doctors could treat me but if I felt uncomfortable I could ask for a female doctor. Or nurse. Which I do when i have a smear test.

Mixed sex wards frighten the hell out of me and I hope not to ever need to be on one

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 23:19

You don't want to explain why it's funny or you can't?!

If there's some context then maybe it's a punchline that makes sense.

By itself it's totally random and I don't get it. What's funny? In that as a standalone?

Plenty of posters have said it's a joke but... I don't get it.

You don't want to explain why it's funny or you can’t

Do you mean the “the word rape is hilarious”

That was clearly a reply to someone (@Charlie) so we don’t know the context. Punchlines on their own aren’t funny.

Except the Fast Show Grin
