We are moving house. This house has a 'presence'. It is not a happy presence. And we would rather not move house with it!

Have already had a priest round to bless the house which helped.

But it's still not gone. The presence not the priest. He went after a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Removal men commented they could 'feel' the presence too.

So. Any ideas?

Any leaving the house ceremony type thing from another culture we could borrow?

We are white British Christian background. So open to any ideas! Thanks

Sorry, is the presence in your new home or your old on?

EmotionalSupportBear · 24/08/2021 12:40

i have some ideas, but i'm Pagan/A Witch, and it depends if you'd be comfortable trying them.

The simplest, is to open all the doors and windows, and burn a little sage (please don't use white sage though) in each room, and politely ask them to leave.

The second is a meditative visualisation of everything in the house being filled with white light/peace and gently push it out from the center of the house, bidding everything to go with, then bless each room again.

The third, is the offchance this isn't a ghost, but something else, is to leave a couple of offerings of milk and a sweet/some candy on the side and outloud, politely ask them to behave and that you're of no threat to them.

I’m an expert in these kinds of things and unfortunately I don’t have good news. In my professional experience, the presences will follow you everywhere you go.

ClaudiaWankleman · 24/08/2021 12:54

There is no presence. It's an echoey, empty space with creaks in the floor, movements in the pipes and cold draughts that you aren't yet used to. You'll get used to it and will think yourself a bit silly in a couple of weeks' time.

Grapewrath · 24/08/2021 13:05

Doors and windows open- sage the house. Black tourmaline and tigers eye crystals at your doors.
Depends on the presence and what it is really. Could you just be feeling anxious?

AmyDudley · 24/08/2021 13:15

Maybe stop believing in woo and it will leave of its own accord.

no1iscoming · 24/08/2021 13:26

We need pictures of the house

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 24/08/2021 13:30

Burn some sage in every room… though @EmotionalSupportBear can I ask why not white sage? I have that as incense sticks which I’ve been using Blush

Get a grip and stop being so daft? I mean this: Any leaving the house ceremony type thing from another culture we could borrow?

Seriously? You're going to steal spirituality from another random culture off the internet because you're beleiving in fairies and ghosties like a 5 year old?

Cherryana · 24/08/2021 13:38

All the people commenting with flippant and dismissive comments - it is possible the op is mistake and it’s possible you are mistaken that things beyond our physical experience of life exist.

Op - contact either your local Vineyard Church. They will have someone who can help x

I have PMd you.

A priest does not come in and do a blessing. I do not think that is what you mean.

It is the time of year for spiders to start thinking of moving inside though. That won't help.

Of course a priest can do a blessing. My house has been blessed by an archbishop!
EatYourVegetables · 24/08/2021 13:44

We need a diagram.

BeauxRingarde · 24/08/2021 13:45

Well, I suppose they have little enough to do these days, they can fanny about on this nonsense instead.

But why would you get your house blessed by a priest unless you were catholic (or similar) and believed your house to be possessed? And if you did believe that, why would you also want to steal from other religions and cultures? Makes no sense.

Audit · 24/08/2021 13:47

@Toddlerteaplease

A priest would do an exorcism. I have also used the word banishment and clearance used. But not blessing.

bathsh3ba · 24/08/2021 13:47

If you are Christian then instructing the spirit to leave in the name of Jesus ought to work. If it is more powerful than that, you need to get the priest back and it may need a team of people.

Drgnbllx · 24/08/2021 13:47

Get a carbon monoxide detector.

Elphame · 24/08/2021 13:48

If the "presence " is in the house you are leaving there is a good chance it will stay there. Most of them are tied to the location

What makes you think it will come with you?

lightand · 24/08/2021 13:50

Audit · 24/08/2021 13:51

Leave the biscuits behind. If they are chocolate or fig rolls the ghost will probably stay.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/08/2021 13:53

A normal priest should not be doing exorcisms. Each Catholic diocese has a diocesan exorcist. But their identity kept very hush hush.

White sage is a closed practise specific to Native American Tribes and their Holy people have requested we stop using it.
picklemewalnuts · 24/08/2021 14:02

A normal priest will do a blessing. It's an excellent first step to reassure people, and is often sufficient. When the priest is unsatisfied with their experience, they will call in a more experienced priest (and yes, they may well be called an exorcist!). This is all standard CofE procedure.

A vicar I knew years ago would give you a little bottle of holy water and instruct you to sprinkle a few drops and say the Lord's Prayer in every room. If that didn't comfort the residents, she'd go and do similar herself, along with a blessing. Next step was someone from the diocese (quite possibly doing the same type of thing!).

Basically people do have feelings like this, and churches do have processes to deal with it. They also have procedures should anything 'unlikely' happen.
