We are moving house. This house has a 'presence'. It is not a happy presence. And we would rather not move house with it!

Have already had a priest round to bless the house which helped.

But it's still not gone. The presence not the priest. He went after a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Removal men commented they could 'feel' the presence too.

So. Any ideas?

Any leaving the house ceremony type thing from another culture we could borrow?

We are white British Christian background. So open to any ideas! Thanks

Another stuck on the honey. I really don’t think there can be honey that’s not made by bees. Surely that’s the definition of honey or have I had it wrong for decades? The vegan stuff looks like fake honey/honey substitute, like aspartame is used as a sugar substitute but is not sugar. So if you are meant to use honey I can’t see how a fake substitute that is not honey would work, would this not just piss it off? I know I’d be pissed off if someone offered me sugar in my tea and then slipped some aspartame in instead.

QueenofKattegat · 24/08/2021 15:08

Apparently the mexican honey wasp makes honey. I mean, the clue is in the name but who knew?

Also, who is now gatekeeping purple heather? It isn't Rod Stewart is it?

HumourReplacementTherapy · 24/08/2021 15:09

I dunno..... 🤔
Who ya gonna call?
😉

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/08/2021 15:10

If I were a spirit, I'd be fucking pissed off at somebody trying to pass Sugar, Inulin, Apple Juice, Natural Flowers, Lemon Juice, Orange Blossom Water and Molasses off as being a plant based artisanal vegan honey alternative rather than a jar of overpriced boiled down syrup honey. Wouldn't be bothered by the glass requirement as it's presumably still in the jar.

@RightYesButNo

Sorry, by priest, do you mean Anglican? Because they just sort of generically bless the place. It’s the Roman Catholics you want. I’m not RC, and in general I don’t “believe” in these types of things, but they have VERY official training in exorcisms, and I think *@Toddlerteaplease* is correct re: specialist per diocese. The Catholic church’s chief exorcist also did a single interview I either watched or read and he was such a kindly seeming and unassuming elderly man, but he was very matter-of-fact that he had dealt with some shite.
C of E have a deliverance team in each diocese. If blessings don’t work then your local priest/vicar can call them in.

Have you had the electrics checked? I recall there can be an issue with electrics that gives people a sense of dread, that they are being watched and most people contribute to ghosts. It effects everyone in the area so it gets compounded by multiple people ‘experiencing’ it. I can’t recall but Google it, it may be EMF? I think it means your electrical cabling needs more insulation or something. Apparently serious ghost hunters check it as it accounts for many cases where they get called out to hauntings. I do believe in the paranormal but think everything like this needs to be discounted first and actual cases of paranormal activity are really astonishingly rare.

The one in the middle of the front row has a look of Dougal from Father Ted. Maybd its his younger brother.

Get a carbon monoxide detector.
Legend.
Confusedandshaken · 24/08/2021 15:14

@Audit

A priest does not come in and do a blessing. I do not think that is what you mean.

It is the time of year for spiders to start thinking of moving inside though. That won't help.

Our parish priest (Catholic, London) often visits people's new homes to bless them. Not because of spooky auras or ghosts, just because some people like it and request it. I think he'd be a bit pissed off to only get given a cup of tea and a biscuit though. Friends of mine who have asked him to do this have given him a proper dinner with wine.
XDownwiththissortofthingX · 24/08/2021 15:15

But I did buy her a box of salt once, in case she ran out of salt, but she said it was the wrong salt

Nothing worse than having your protective barrier fail and your house invaded by a cohort of gibbering, shrieking demons because some idiot used Saxa. We've all been there.

Briset · 24/08/2021 15:18

Please don't use saxa for this sort of thing. It's disrespectful.

AmyDudley · 24/08/2021 15:19

You can get honey from ants but you have to eat the individual ants to get the honey - so quite time consuming(and ant consuming). They come from Australia though so maybe not practical for exorcism purposes in UK.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/08/2021 15:20

Could it be some 'house warming presents' from the neighbours?

TheGenealogist · 24/08/2021 15:21

Naturally made with "inulin". Say what???

These are the ladies you need. Who you gonna call when there's something strange in your neighbourhood?

Just don't look in the fridge, Sigourney.

EMF are a band aren't they?
MasterBeth · 24/08/2021 15:22

Honestly, does the Church of England really believe in ghosts, these days?

TheGenealogist · 24/08/2021 15:23

EMF are a band aren't they?

Unbelievable.

Well, I’d think if it was actually a spirit hanging around then a run of the mill Anglican blessing may do the job. Why not start with that? You seem to have gone from 0 to 10 quite quickly with a service that’s more appropriate for your Linda Blair in The Exorcist type thing.

Drinkingallthewine · 24/08/2021 15:23

I used to be RC so to clear it up - priests do blessings of houses. And cars and pretty much anything within reason. It's also common here in Ireland to have a mass said in a house (called the Stations) particularly when it's a new house. Which usually prompts fierce cleaning with every child roped into making sure the place was sparkling for the neighbours, Good Tablecloths sourced, copious amounts spent on painting the place and digging out the wedding china.

To perform an exorcism, a priest could only do it with the permission of his bishop or archbishop and even then it's unlikely as they also do have an elite group of priests experienced/trained in it. Like a priest SAS task force if you will.

I am having a little giggle at the specifications of vegan honey, not-white sage and purple heather, like it's the Barefoot Contessa doing a recipe: "If you don't have any organic artisanal white sage plucked on a full moon in April, any store bought good white sage will do"

Not very vegan, is it?
Inthesameboatatmo · 24/08/2021 15:25

Tigers eye, black tourmaline and amethyst crystals, make sure they are cleansed and charged first, smudge with sage keep windows open while doing this ,instruct the presence to leave in no uncertain terms and never come back .
Pagan here so pm me if you feel you need too.

EmotionalSupportBear · 24/08/2021 15:26

i dont know of any honey that isn't 'bee honey' i'm assuming whoever posted that was taking the piss out of my point about not using White Sage which is a sacred closed practise particular to certain Native American tribes, who have politely asked that its not used in Pagan/western spiritual rituals.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 24/08/2021 15:27

@Bananarama101

If you PayPal me £500 and your address I'll do a remote socially-distanced cleansing ceremony for you
I'll do it for £450, & I used to know two Archbishops of Canterbury.
GrandDuchessRomanov · 24/08/2021 15:28

This just smacks of the old adage no matter how hard you run you take all your old troubles with you.

Are you sure this presence is not an atmosphere created by very much living individuals in the house you are leaving?

SpittinKitten · 24/08/2021 15:28

@Audit 's recommendation of leaving the ghost fig rolls or chocolate biscuits is also easily made vegan friendly
