We are moving house. This house has a 'presence'. It is not a happy presence. And we would rather not move house with it!

Have already had a priest round to bless the house which helped.

But it's still not gone. The presence not the priest. He went after a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Removal men commented they could 'feel' the presence too.

So. Any ideas?

Any leaving the house ceremony type thing from another culture we could borrow?

We are white British Christian background. So open to any ideas! Thanks

If you are Christian then you need Ephesians 6: 10-18.
Ask the vicar to keep praying. I will also pray for you (feel free to inbox me).
I've been in your situation and it's awful, but keep the faith and it will go.
You're are also right to think it might come with you as they do follow people (as has happened to me).
If you are Christian though it cannot possess you, just pester you, which is horrid enough.
Keep praying.

@MasterBeth

Honestly, does the Church of England really believe in ghosts, these days?
How odd, fancy religious people believing in the continuation of the soul after death. Next thing you know, they will believe that praying to a divinity can affect matters in this mortal realm!
GrandDuchessRomanov · 24/08/2021 15:30

Amethyst Crystals? How about Crystal Meth instead?

The presence will be too disorientated to follow you OP,

Get in the van and DRIVE!

If you donate money in exchange to them spraying a bit of holy water about, they'll believe in anything.

@TheGenealogist

EMF are a band aren't they?

Unbelievable.

Sage and Prayer.

Kindness too.

Be firm, tell them to move on. Tell them it’s your house now, you love it and will take care of it.

Ask God and the Holy Spirit to fill your house so full of everything good that nothing else will fit.

Probably still want to leave a bit of room for furniture and stuff though.
RavingAnnie · 24/08/2021 15:35

People. I think the bee free honey poster was joking. She was taking the piss out of the please don't use white sage PP.

At least that's how I read it. Fucking hilarious.

Lweji · 24/08/2021 15:37

How about Crystal Meth instead?

Or burn some Cannabis sativa instead of sage. The presence, the removal men and the OP will be happier and more relaxed. Win-win.

@BeauxRingarde

So. Any ideas?

Get a grip and stop being so daft? I mean this: Any leaving the house ceremony type thing from another culture we could borrow?

Seriously? You're going to steal spirituality from another random culture off the internet because you're beleiving in fairies and ghosties like a 5 year old?

Yep.

This is a wind up surely!

Charmatt · 24/08/2021 15:40

Put conkers in the corner of each room!

....or that might be to stop spiders...

Given that I've tried to get rid of the presence of a teenage persona in my daughter to no avail, I think you should just drink gin and accept it's there!

www.infiniteembers.com/sage-smudging-cultural-appropriation/

"It was illegal for Natives to practice their religion (including smudging) until 1978 in the U.S. It’s something they’ve had to fight for. They’re still currently battling to be allowed to perform smudging in hospitals."

"So we’re destroying something of sacred importance for its beauty and making it less accessible for the Native American peoples, who were using it first. This is continuing systemic racism and oppression against Indigenous People. And we’ve already done enough."

"Sage must be respected for the sacred plant it is.
It really is magical. (All plants are!) It can be used as a spice, as medicine, and even to connect to spirit.

The most important takeaway from this post is to respect sage and the original Native American practice of burning it to smudge. The first step is educating yourself—so thanks for taking the time to read this article! Now share it with your friends and community.

And can we all agree that sage should no longer be sold at the checkout counters of expensive (white) clothing boutiques?

(If you live in SoCal, you know)

Respecting sage and the practice of smudging means we are respecting Native Americans. It brings us one step closer to healing as a collective. One step closer to unity."

But sure, cultural appropriation and racism against indiginous people is "fucking hilarious"

@Grapewrath

Doors and windows open- sage the house. Black tourmaline and tigers eye crystals at your doors. Depends on the presence and what it is really. Could you just be feeling anxious?
What does 'at your doors' mean, please? Do you mean hanging on a door, in which case two per door face, or on every door, or front door and back door only, plus can we mix up the proportion of black tourmaline and tigers eye or must it remain 50:50.

Thank you.

We moved house when I was six. In our old house, I felt a witch lived in the loft and I used to talk at her when I visited the bathroom as the loft hatch was on the landing ceiling just outside.
I told her we were moving and when I realised this might be a mistake I subsequently gave her a false address for the new house. It later occurred to me that she might see through this ruse and follow us instead - and then of course she'd have been pretty angry at my dishonesty so it all felt quite high stakes. However, I never sensed her presence in the new house so I think we have to assume my ploy worked.
Worth a try?!
In all seriousness I hope that you have lots of love, comfort, laughter and joy in your new home and I certainly believe hope is a powerful thing xx

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 24/08/2021 15:44

@EmotionalSupportBear I’m sorry you’ve been given grief over that. My question was genuine. I won’t buy any more white sage. Thank you for sharing that with me as I wouldn’t have known otherwise

Refreshpage · 24/08/2021 15:45

OK for my second attempt I will try to be helpful. A quick search on the internet said you have to do the following:
To Do:

The easiest way to get rid of a ghost is to simply ask it to leave. Use a firm voice and tell the ghost exactly what you want and why. You might say something like this: “This is my house and it bothers me when you are around all the time. Would you please leave?” Remember, the physical world is your domain and ghosts rarely have any power in the physical world.
Ghosts don’t always know that they are dead. You may have to explain to them that they are dead, that they no longer belong in the physical world and will be better off if they move toward the light.
Sometimes you may have to ask what the spirit wants. This is often the case with someone who has recently passed over who may be attempting to communicate to you about something. Afterward, they are happy to leave.
Use your imagination to “see” loved ones, angels, or guides coming to take them to the light.

However, do NOT do the following you might upset said ghost of delicate nature:
DO NOT:

When telling the ghost to “go away”, do not yell or sound angry.
Do not give the spirit recognition by talking about it in your home, or maybe avoid talking about it altogether. This provides the spirit with energy, making it more powerful.
Try not to show fear. It is your home and the spirit can generally do you no harm. Fear can also provide the spirit with energy.
DO NOT use Ouija boards, Tarot cards, séances, or witchcraft when dealing with anything that is supernatural. These items may actually increase spiritual activity and/or “open doors” that invite demonic and other unwanted spirits.

Simples!

You're welcome.

I think some people forget some of this 'woo' stuff is very much based in ancient practise, and not just some modern fluff spiritualism.

While those of us who Practise might use rituals adopted from other religions and indiginous people, the LEAST we can do is respect them and their origins, and the People still practising them today.

Seawo · 24/08/2021 15:49

@EmotionalSupportBear oops 😬 my garden is full of Californian white sage!

I LOVE the smell and taste. I had absolutely no idea it was something that was an issue (live in the UK).

Lweji · 24/08/2021 15:50

They’re still currently battling to be allowed to perform smudging in hospitals

I wonder why. Hmm

There's respecting a culture, and there's interfering with hospital environments and practices, as well as allowing non-scientific practices in medicine (too many already).

BTW, OP, whatever products you use to scare off/appease the presence, I hear that if you dilute them in ultrapure water over 30 times by a factor of 10, and shake vigorously after each dilution. Then use just a drop, because it will be super potent. As you should also treat like with like, I would charge the first batch of water with negative energies. A good place to start these days would be the antivaxx demonstrations.

Onfire · 24/08/2021 15:52

Palo Santo smudging?
Salt?
Crystal grid?
Asking nicely? (Sounds silly but sometimes this works)

i would think if you're growing/using you own supply it'd be less of an issue, but i'm not the expert, its just buying/using it in magical practise is something where i've respected the request not to do because of the issues with the oppression of Indiginous people!

HBGKC · 24/08/2021 15:54

"Ok, wo this presupposes there is a spirit, right? What if you aren't a christian, but pretend to be for this purpose? If you instruct it to leave in the name of Jesus will it leave, or can it read your mind and know you aren't actually a believer?
Genuine question."

@BeauxRingarde, to answer your question: it's not the faith of the person speaking that is powerful, but literally the name of Jesus Christ.

And yes, in every diocese of the Roman Catholic Church there is a dedicated exorcist.

OP, did you explain the background situation to the priest who came to bless your house?

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 24/08/2021 15:55

Ok, I'll bite. If you are genuine Op, and I keep an open mind on such matters, then my suggestion is that you look for your local spiritualist church and contact them and explain the problem. They may be able to send someone to help the "presence" move on.

The reason I keep an open mind on such matters is because I have known someone who lived in a house which turned out to have two ghosts and someone from the local spiritualist church turned up unannounced to say they had received a message that there was a problem and that my friends needed help. They performed some sort of ritual, refused to take any money and the house was rid of the spirits. My friends were no nonsense people who did not believe in any of this stuff until it actually happened to them.
