We are moving house. This house has a 'presence'. It is not a happy presence. And we would rather not move house with it!

Have already had a priest round to bless the house which helped.

But it's still not gone. The presence not the priest. He went after a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Removal men commented they could 'feel' the presence too.

So. Any ideas?

Any leaving the house ceremony type thing from another culture we could borrow?

We are white British Christian background. So open to any ideas! Thanks

I went away briefly whilst it was all Fanta and sporrans nailed to a wardrobe, I've come back to an existential crisis.

Still loving the thread though.

Totallydefeated · 26/08/2021 21:41

Er, how is this assisting the OP?

Wow, you’re just far too clever for me 😍

Totallydefeated · 26/08/2021 21:45

Oh that won't stop 'em once they are on their soap boxes, all determined to be the one lasting standing.

It does seem like some just can’t contain their zeal to purge others of their ‘incorrect’ beliefs. Interesting role to take upon oneself.

Lweji · 26/08/2021 22:37

Well the doctor who told my dad there was nothing to be done 20 years ago, was this medical truth or perspective- when we said no and went for a second opinion was this any more medical truth or just opinion/perspective ? What is the truth in this situation, when does perspective become truth?

If you had said no and just walked away believing that by ignoring it, it would go away, you'd have been deluded.
Instead, it looks like you sought another profissional.
When the first doctor said there was nothing that could be done, that was that he knew of.
But, presumably, you didn't ignore the fact that your dad was, presumably, with a serious health problem.
And that appealing to the intervention of a deity, for example, would be of no help.

Whenever I see religion threads pop up, I stay off them because it's not my thing but ce la vie. If somebody has faith, that doesn't affect me.

So I don't really understand why woo threads attract so many imperious people, desperate to argue the toss as to whether ghosts exist.

If they don't exist to you, why are you so desperate to join the conversation? Don't you have better things to do?

GrrrlPwr · 26/08/2021 23:35

Well we all know the answer is 42, so I'm ok with that

Because there is no rule that says you have to believe in something to discuss it.

@drgnbllx I know but... Its so predictable.

Absolutely.

Open windows and door, wash them with salt water while burning white candles, focus on the task at hand of cleansing the space, when everything's clean and dry, close up, blow the candles out and you're done. Place the candles at North, south, east and west points for a stronger effect.

Me too, @Yesitsbess, me too... Comedy gold and interesting intellectual discussions :) I was also hoping for some practical advice. Here is my two pennorth, for what it's worth...

I have lived in a number of houses but 2 are pertinent to this thread (in my head anyway). One we moved into, unaware that the people before us had died in horrible circs. (it was a murder suicide) We had put our bed in the same position in the bedroom where both events had happened (the floorboards were bare, and stained but I didnt know what with, & had them carpeted before I knew - the local small town carpet fitter filled me in! argh..). Despite all this, it was a happy home for us. My current house has a basement with a particular 'cold' corner. Dog wont' go near it. Whole house feels unsettled. Been bought and sold many times - no one stays long. About 25 years ago the then owner used to old seances etc in that room and there were pentagrams drawn all over it (again, didn't 'sodding know before I bought it but this small gossipy village was delighted to inform me). Interesting that I didn't feel unsettled in the 1st house (despite some prompting to by a particularly weird neighbour who'd enjoyed her airtime with the local press) but still do, 15 years on, in the 2nd.
(not helped by Googling and discovering that a different predecessor had advertised it for sale as a 'Haunted House'. So, quite early on, I asked the local Vicar if she would 'bless' the house as it had such an unsettled feeling. She laughed (literally) & changed subject. Not CofE but Church of Scotland though. I guess I was hoping for a 'blessing / clearing of energies' type thing to help me feel more settled here.

I agree with the idea that it doesn't especially matter whether the community benefit comes from most following the same religions precepts / 'truth' or from the benefits of cohesion itself (although 'religion' / man's application of it has also been responsible for horrible divides and countless deaths over the centuries too.

Yesitsbess · 27/08/2021 10:14

Have you tried giving the corner some Fanta @52andblue ?

CounsellorTroi · 27/08/2021 10:23

@SpittinKitten

Stand down on the beeless honey search!

I had no idea that ghosties were vegan..

I misread the label, thought it said “naturally crafted from insulin”.
52andblue · 27/08/2021 10:25

Is you not takin this seriously @Yesitsbess

I have not. It would need to be Irn-Bru here anyway.
I thought the Thai 'ghost houses' / offerings were interesting though.
I suspect such things comfort the living more than placate the 'un-dead'

Maybe you should've got some mice in your old house. I'm sure that they'd have been able to chase the presence out. 😉😁

If a spirit was (in the words of Whoopie Goldberg) "Stuck between worlds" I'm sure this will do the trick.
Yesitsbess · 27/08/2021 12:39

@52andblue I take ghost Fanta very seriously Grin. The houses are beautiful aren't they? They get huge and ornate in some places. But usually have a fizzy drink somewhere on them which I found amusing.

The presence at have departed whilst nursing a hangover so might appreciate a drink made of girders.

Yesitsbess · 27/08/2021 12:39

*might

beinglikedisoverrated · 27/08/2021 13:35

Blame Scooby doo - it would have worked of it hadn't been for those meddling kids?

RamblingJenny · 29/08/2021 09:28

@Yesitsbess
Sorry know this thread is few days old, loving the topic and hope OH has the situation managed. But I’m happy to read someone else knows of Thai boxes. My Grandad is Thai, when we visited a temple there was a big area of these ‘bird boxes’ - our kids began playing near them not realising what they were and we’re drawn to how colourful and beautiful they looked (I had no idea either). He became visibly very worried and ask them move. I later found out his thinking was that he did not want the spirits to harm our children.

Can I ask if the OP is saying that they are concerned the spirit will follow them or that there could be a ‘new one’ in the next house?

RamblingJenny · 29/08/2021 09:29

were*

Yesitsbess · 29/08/2021 11:15

They are lovely aren't they?

I think the presence has stayed put at the old house if I remember correctly, and we have moved onto other spirited debates. Pun entirely intended.

GrrrlPwr · 29/08/2021 17:15

RamblingJenny I was concerned to move without the additional presence in the house moving with us!
Which happily does not appear to have moved also. The new house is just lovely. And we are all happier
