Seriously, look at the unimportant stuff on the chat list today. Am I the only one who is thinking about those poor girls?

My daughter was born just as we entered Afghanistan and removed the Taliban. she is now 20 at uni and loving life (despite COVID).Her peers in Afghanistan as of yesterday were doing the same. Herat Uni has over 50% women studying in it.

As of today they have been told to go home, cover up, hand in their car keys and wait,,....for what? To be forced into marriage and forget their dreams?

I can’t help imagining how my daughter would feel..what could you say as a mother?it is heart breaking.

PieceOfString · 16/08/2021 23:39

There have been several today. So on that basis yabu to be disappointed.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/08/2021 23:39

There have been plenty of threats about what’s going on.

Percypigg · 16/08/2021 23:40

Are you serious?

MsTSwift · 16/08/2021 23:41

There was a massive thoughtful thread earlier today so not sure what you are on about

ShitShop · 16/08/2021 23:41

They are. Mainly on the feminism board so if you’ve hidden that you won’t see many of them.

RubyGoat · 16/08/2021 23:41

I can only assume you've been looking at the other threads OP.

AlCalavicci · 16/08/2021 23:41

Talking on MN about what is happing to them ladies wont help them .

what would you like to see been done / what are you planning to do to help them ?

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 16/08/2021 23:41

I am with you.

I feel a deep desire to help in some way.

Women and girls will go through indescribable terror over the next few days , as the Taliban wage their mission to rape and impregnate as many as possible , to ensure the continuation and survival of their own barbarians.

My heart is so heavy today.

ACPC · 16/08/2021 23:41

There have been threads on this op, you might have just missed them. One had links to a charity you could donate to but aside from that, yes I agree it's very upsetting, awful Sad

userhuman · 16/08/2021 23:41

Underneath this thread is a thread about Afghanistan that has over 600 replies

Hercisback · 16/08/2021 23:42

There have been lots of threads.

For me it's a topic I'm deeply troubled by but spouting about it ON MN doesn't really help.

MsTSwift · 16/08/2021 23:42

Just below this thread is one about this with 652 posts on it !🙄

MiaowMiaow99 · 16/08/2021 23:42

The situations is horrific. I cannot imagine what's going through the minds of any women currently in Kabul. They must be terrified.

RubyGoat · 16/08/2021 23:42

I mean, at other threads, not at the many threads about Afghanistan.

brittleheadgirl · 16/08/2021 23:42

To echo others, there have been a number of threads on this awful subject today.
Maybe check first next time? You sound condescending and have achieved nothing.

As far as I can see, Mumsnet is full of people who care very much about the situation in Afghanistan and are horrified by it.

ISpyCobraKai · 16/08/2021 23:43

Given the number of threads today already I can only assume the OPs of them care more than you since they posted first.

DramaAlpaca · 16/08/2021 23:43

There have been several threads on this which you've obviously missed, but yes it's heartbreaking.

Frazzledmummy123 · 16/08/2021 23:43

There have been threads about it so I don't think it is very fair to say everyone has been unreasonable to not talk about it, so yabu.

I agree with you that it is awful what is happening and it breaks my heart. However, people can talk about other things and it doesn't mean they don't care.

AlexaShutUp · 16/08/2021 23:45

There has been some excellent discussion on these threads imo, so yabu to say that people aren't talking about it. However, yanbu to be absolutely appalled by what's going on in Afghanistan right now. It's gut-wrenching.

gardeninggirl68 · 16/08/2021 23:46

I don't think this is quite the reaction the op wanted though

MissTrip82 · 16/08/2021 23:47

Yes, you’re the only one. Every other woman is a vacuous bint interested only in beauty treatments. You stand above us all.

There are numerous threads.

CatMuffin · 16/08/2021 23:48

Disappointed to see you've contributed to none of the threads on this topic op

LemonPepperOrder · 16/08/2021 23:48

Just because we are still posting about other things on here it doesn’t mean for a second that these poor women and children are not constantly on our mind- I’ve not long started a thread in chat about being on TV! I’m still sat here with my heart breaking wishing there was some way to help these people.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 16/08/2021 23:48

There are threads, you just haven't seen them.

Your post is really patronising OP. Why didn't you actually just start a thread yourself about it?

Furthermore it's not just up to the women of MN to solve other women's problems. I hope you're berating male-dominated sites for not giving shit too? Especially considering that, in general, men have far more sway in alleviating women's oppression in this world than women do.

Quarks69 · 16/08/2021 23:49

I came on here feeling sad, and expected to see a live thread on it. I can’t see one though under active threads...so yes very disappointed. It’s not just a feminist issue..is that where it is!
