Seriously, look at the unimportant stuff on the chat list today. Am I the only one who is thinking about those poor girls?

My daughter was born just as we entered Afghanistan and removed the Taliban. she is now 20 at uni and loving life (despite COVID).Her peers in Afghanistan as of yesterday were doing the same. Herat Uni has over 50% women studying in it.

As of today they have been told to go home, cover up, hand in their car keys and wait,,....for what? To be forced into marriage and forget their dreams?

I can’t help imagining how my daughter would feel..what could you say as a mother?it is heart breaking.

Also, MN is a general chat site, people can post about as much 'unimportant stuff' as they like. It's not specifically a political site or a feminist site. I'm reporting this thread as I think it's really out of order.

@Quarks69

I came on here feeling sad, and expected to see a live thread on it. I can’t see one though under active threads...so yes very disappointed. It’s not just a feminist issue..is that where it is!
As pretty much everyone has said, there are threads. Look harder
ACPC · 16/08/2021 23:51

There's a huge thread on aibu Confused

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 16/08/2021 23:52

@LemonPepperOrder

Just because we are still posting about other things on here it doesn’t mean for a second that these poor women and children are not constantly on our mind- I’ve not long started a thread in chat about being on TV! I’m still sat here with my heart breaking wishing there was some way to help these people.
YY I've thought of little else SadI feel utterly useless and hopeless and I wish there was something more I could do besides donating.

You need to look in the very section you have posted in. There are several. For example::

There are several threads, I have commented on one.
Because I like many have felt significant sadness about what is happening.

tattymacduff · 16/08/2021 23:57

Cross posted with ACPC

PicsInRed · 16/08/2021 23:57

We've been very seriously discussing it in multiple places on mumsnet for literally days, therefore if you were that interested you would have found those threads and known this already.

Woops, how embarrassing for you OP.

Howshouldibehave · 16/08/2021 23:58

I’ve seen several threads about it.

Or do you think EVERY thread should be about it?

AlexaShutUp · 16/08/2021 23:59

OP, do a search on posts containing the word "Afghanistan" posted in the last two weeks. You will find that loads of posts come up. There have been multiple different threads. Some are discussing the situation there more generally, others are specifically talking about the impact on women and girls.

They're easy enough to find but you clearly didn't look. Please save your outrage for the issue itself. There are plenty of people here who share your concerns.

aiwndud · 17/08/2021 00:00

"Am I the only one who is thinking about those poor girls?"

Yes OP you are, literally no one else cares - what a stupid thread! I've seen loads of threads on this today, and previous to today as well 🙄

Chloemol · 17/08/2021 00:02

There are lots of threads. But what about all the other woman in countries across the world who are also in the same situation

The school kids kidnapped in Africa, the gym, the early marriages all the adverts you see on tv about it, I don’t see any threads on that

What about all the forced arranged marriages, the honour killings etc taking place in ‘civilised’ countries like India and the UK

What about all the Muslim women kept subjugated in countries like UAE, saydi( where they couldn’t even drive until 2918)/

Yes what’s happened in Afghanistan is horrific but why just pick on them why not all other situations

Chloemol · 17/08/2021 00:03

GFM not gym

ACPC · 17/08/2021 00:03

The one time a poster is being unreasonable and we can actually prove it.Grin
On a serious note op, the threads are well worth a read. There are things we can do, sadly not enough but it's better than nothing.

RubyGoat · 17/08/2021 00:03

There are at least 13 threads other than the OP's, with either Afghan or Afghanistan in the title, from within the last week. Took less than a minute to search them. No doubt many more comments on threads such as those on the Is the A Hoax thread, about the student who got stuck & was complaining about being "ignored by the British Embassy" when he shouldn't have bloody well been there, & all the comments about the fact that he would probably get a place on a plane, that could have gone to a genuine refugee who will now very likely die because of his actions. And that he still doesn't even care.

Did you not see any live threads because you blocked the feminism chat board OP?

Chloemol · 17/08/2021 00:04

God predictive text. Saudi not saydi and 2018

Paulinna · 17/08/2021 00:05

Active threads are those that have been posted on in approx the last 10 minutes. Just because nobody has posted on the topic for 10 minutes doesn’t mean it isn’t being discussed.

tattymacduff · 17/08/2021 00:06

There will be millions and millions and millions of women all over the world thinking about the women and girls of Afghanistan. Some will be posting about it on social media some won't.

DanielTigersMummy21 · 17/08/2021 00:06

Why is this the responsibility of 'the women of Mumsnet?' and not the predominantly male world leaders who are allowing this abomination to happen?

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 17/08/2021 00:06

There have been multiple threads. This one comes across as your ego trip to demonstrate how sad and superior you are.

And as for all the topics you dismiss - surely the true freedom you'd want for Afghan women would allow them to choose to discuss whatever they want, not the 'right' topics approved as being worthwhile enough by someone else.

Quarks69 · 17/08/2021 00:07

Ah well if there was a delete button for a thread I would hit it.😳...but I still find it strange that this huge event doesn’t put some of our rather lesser Mumsnet gripes into perspective, and to see pages of the usual ...To maybe be a bit more thankful for living in this country at this time.🤷🏻‍♀️

Imagine being so outraged that you post on aibu without even looking at first page...
Yabu and attention seeking

Ask Mumsnet to delete the thread. Next time you start a thread, don't accuse or berate people. I think that's the main problem.

Yes you are, do you feel better now?
