AIBU to be asked to reframe my trauma by the trans CEO of Scottish Rape Crisis?

herewegogc · 10/08/2021 21:27

The CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis has said "Sexual violence happens to bigoted people too. But if you bring beliefs that are discriminatory, expect to be challenged on your prejudice. Reframe your trauma"

Apparently, survivors are to be "educated" in this service.

forwomen.scot/10/08/2021/the-real-crisis-at-rape-crisis-scotland/

Tonight is a really tough one. Women who have been raped or sexually assaulted need females to listen to them. Rape Crisis was that service and used to offer trauma based therapy.

I don't need educating - I know that detailing my experience to a man, or a transwomen is NEVER something I will do.

This is too much.

I am not denying it, I am asking for information and sources for it. Thank you providing them.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 11/08/2021 20:03

what sort of skills and qualifications would you expect a CEO of a Rape Crisis service to have?

Because, I suspect my local one's new boss is under qualified.

PickAChew · 11/08/2021 20:08

@FindTheTruth

TRANSLATION of what Mridul Wadhwa said, by *@Artichokeleaves*

"expect to be, despite your trauma, your needs and protected characteristics, to be harassed and forced to view these needs as prejudices that are unacceptable and deserving of punishment, and the price of our help will be this struggle session and possibly the punishment of our disapproval, our scolding and our threat of withholding help. And we'll tell you too that in order to get over your trauma you must accept that male people are not male if they say so and that your fears of male people are not as important as male people's wishes, and your feelings do not matter and are not valid and must be corrected, because male feelings matter more. And thus we can enable male people to have their desire of all female refuges being opened to them, because any problems female people speak of is now viewed as all their fault'."

Wow. Such a nasty piece of work Shock
gingganggooleywotsit · 11/08/2021 20:11

Ugh what an awful quote from Rape Crisis Scotland! Therapy should never be political! Wtf!

LoverOfLight · 11/08/2021 20:13

I'm discussing this with my partner right now. He and I were just saying how fucking disgusting the phrase "therapy is political" is.

This person needs to be sacked immediately.

Anotheruser02 · 11/08/2021 20:14

I can't link on my phone but keep prisons single sex site states that out if the male prison population 19 % of men identifying as men have a sexual offence or rape by their names compared with 48% of trans identifying males. Like I say abusers will identify however they need to if they can access victims, the alternative explaination is that trans women are 2.5 times as likely to be a sexual offender.

LoverOfLight · 11/08/2021 20:15

And yes the reframe your trauma. It's so scary.

As if it isn't hard enough to come forward for support about SA. Now women in that area are literally being told, come to us but if your views are wrong we're here to tell you off about that first and foremost.

I see the thread has magically moved Hmm

Anyone new might like to use the opportunity to explore the "sex & gender" board

herewegogc · 11/08/2021 20:20

@MNHQ can I ask why my thread has been moved?

OP posts:
Mulletsaremisunderstood · 11/08/2021 20:22

Yeah, why has this been shunted off into the naughty corner? So frustrating.

YouMeandtheSpew · 11/08/2021 20:23

The only way I can make sense of it is by assuming that Wadhwa doesn’t actually view women as humans, but inside sees them as accessories for male gratification.

You know, the way a lot of misogynistic men view women.

MichelleScarn · 11/08/2021 20:23

Why has it moved? Am assuming multiple reports?...

FFS this is relevant. Things like this being hidden away so tightly is the reason feminists just look like they're making a fuss over a marginalised group of people.
Doyoumind · 11/08/2021 20:25
@MNHQ can I ask why my thread has been moved?
Yes MN. Why did this get moved from AIBU? We already have a thread in FWR about this. It never happens on other thread types unless the OP asks.

Xenia · 11/08/2021 20:26

If enough people complain against something then things are done in most places on line which is why in life men are able to shut and control women up again and again and again.

Waitwhat23 · 11/08/2021 20:26

What.a.surprise this has been moved. I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did in AIBU before being targeted by the misogynistic monitors.

@herewegogc tagging MNHQ apparently doesn't do anything - if you want a response, you are better tagging a specific mod. I think @michaelmumsnet is the main mod for this board?

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 11/08/2021 20:28

And now it's back in AIBU Hmm. WTF is going on?

herewegogc · 11/08/2021 20:29

@michaelmumsnet - can you help? I have had so much support over on AIBU and am disappointed that the thread has been moved.

Because this is was a very active thread in a very visible place. Threads about this sort of issue aren't meant to be widely seen as women might find out about the issues and start thinking the wrong thing.

herewegogc · 11/08/2021 20:30

I did report my post so the mods would see it. Thank you @MNHQ for moving it back.

And yes, anyone finding themselves unexpectedly on the Sex and Gender board might want to have a wee look around. From the reaction to this thread when it was on AIBU, I think there may be a fair few people thinking 'hmm, maybe the posters on the Sex and Gender board are on to something'.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/08/2021 20:31

@Mulletsaremisunderstood

Moderator power struggle?

(Actually, I think there is a short period of time when it appears in both places - a quirk of being moved)

Waitwhat23 · 11/08/2021 20:31

Ah, cross post!

TofuDelights · 11/08/2021 20:33

What happened there? It's back in AIBU for me, having briefly disappeared on page 23.

As you can see OP, YADNBU, almost everyone here thinks so, as I'm sure you would have seen if voting had been switched on.

Hope you are doing OK now, OP. Flowers

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 11/08/2021 20:35

Glad to see the thread back in AIBU!
