To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

You must lock him in for his own good. If he won't teach his children to respect other people's property then someone else needs to demonstrate why they should.

Redglitter · 31/07/2021 11:51

You told him you were locking the gates you have to do it. Don't let him get away with it. At the very least block him in and force him to come and ask you to let him out

Howshouldibehave · 31/07/2021 11:51

Well done! Is his car now behind the gate?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/07/2021 11:52

Is it just me that thinks some of those trees look like a cock and balls?

So glad someone else said it first.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 31/07/2021 11:53

The FC def aren't in this weekend so it would only be a problem if an emergency vehicle needed access to the woods. If they did they'll knock on the door anyway because for some insane reason none of them have keys to the gates (whole other thread) so we always have to let them in all the gates round here.

I need to hear more about the lady who used to let her children use your trampoline & garden furniture! Shock

autumnboys · 31/07/2021 11:54

Well done! That really is cheeky of him when there are spaces.

Mountainpika · 31/07/2021 11:54

Whatever you do, leaving a note, or speaking to him eventually, DON'T use the word sorry or anything remotely apologetic. He's the one to use them, not you. And in any case, you'd be lying because you're not sorry at all.
Have fun! Back later for progress report.

Twoforthree · 31/07/2021 11:55

So what have you done?

aiwblam · 31/07/2021 11:55

What an arrogant bastard

Onthebrink87 · 31/07/2021 11:56

Please add 'had to lock the gate as no ther gate' on your note!! (Not place marking...)

Anuthanamechange · 31/07/2021 11:56

**You really have to move his car then when he comes back and asks for you, whoever answers has to deny ever seeing their car and say "there was a lady who lived here but she died 15 years ago..."

^
This I would do!! Grin

Good for you! So rude of him after you were very reasonable.

Couldhavebeenme2 · 31/07/2021 11:56

Good work OP, I applaud you!

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 31/07/2021 11:56

You really need to leave a note saying I told you this is private property and I'd be back in 5 minutes to lock my gate. Did you think you could just park here anyway and I'd leave my gate open for you?

SquirryTheSquirrel · 31/07/2021 11:56

Just place marking to find out what happens when the CF comes back.

KatherineJaneway · 31/07/2021 11:58

YANBU

trappedsincesundaymorn · 31/07/2021 12:00

When he comes back tell him that the 1st 5 minutes were free but there is a £50 charge for unlocking the gates. Cash in on his CFuckery.

WeeWelshWoman · 31/07/2021 12:00

I'm here, ready for the updates when he realises he's stuck.

Sapnupuas · 31/07/2021 12:00

I want to know more about Mrs Trampoline.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 31/07/2021 12:00

Ooo!!! Can’t wait to see how this pans out. As PPs have said, you warned him you would lock the gate and he didn’t listen. You’re just doing as you said you would. What a CF!!!

I also need to know more about the trampolining woman!

GoldBar · 31/07/2021 12:01

Place marking.

If the DC are older, I'd definitely leave them to sweat for a bit.

Maybe visit friends/pub for the afternoon and early evening?

boireannach · 31/07/2021 12:01

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon Thank you for providing us with such a detailed and informative diagram. Of course you should close and bolt the gates.

Potpourri23 · 31/07/2021 12:01

@xyzandabc

You told him you would come back in 5 mins to lock the gate. That's exactly what you do. You can't leave your property unsecured as you're going out for the day.

He was warned. He chose to ignore it.

If you're feeling charitable, leave a note on his car, 'Sorry had to lock gate, back later'

Exactly this. You don't need to do anything else. You warned him the gate was going to be locked in 5 minutes.
Lulola · 31/07/2021 12:02

Can’t you put a massive pile of stones/manure between his car and the gate? Be there when he returns but point out it couldn’t be placed where it needs to be because of his car and you have a bad back…. So if he wants to get his car out the shovel and wheelbarrow are in the stables?

Let his kids see that not respecting others property leaves you in the shit, literally!
