To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

Well done, OP. He deserves it, there can be no doubt he's misunderstood as you made it clear it's private land and he's then gone on to leave you a note.

Do you think he realises you live in the nearby property?

Redtartanshoes · 31/07/2021 12:02

You’ve def done the right thing. What an entitled dick.

Dizzy1234 · 31/07/2021 12:03

Love a good cf parking thread, Shamelessly 👀 for the outcome.
Don't give in op 😂

LookItsMeAgain · 31/07/2021 12:03

Close the gate, block him in and leave a similar sharp note on his windscreen as others have suggested:
"Came back after 5 mins as previously arranged. Had to go out for a bit so locked the gate. Be back soon"
Then if you can, don't use that entrance/exit for the remainder of the day and just leave him there.

Notaroadrunner · 31/07/2021 12:03

When he comes back leave him there for some time before you answer the door. Then tell him the police have been called and you have passed on his reg details - might make him sweat a bit. And never again allow anyone to fob you off by saying they'll only be staying a few minutes. They don't get to dictate that they will park on your land.

NotSorry · 31/07/2021 12:03

All these CF parking threads make me glad I live on a road where there is no parking (not even for residents) at any time!

AfterSchoolWorry · 31/07/2021 12:05

Excellent 😊

LittleBear21 · 31/07/2021 12:06

@Mountainpika

Whatever you do, leaving a note, or speaking to him eventually, DON'T use the word sorry or anything remotely apologetic. He's the one to use them, not you. And in any case, you'd be lying because you're not sorry at all. Have fun! Back later for progress report.
Totally this. The complete arrogance of him. Looking forward to further updates.
comebacksunshines · 31/07/2021 12:06

I would tow him to the car park opposite and let him get a fine, or clamp for not paying.
If he comes knocking, help him look for his car over the road.
Can’t believe the front of some people.

Newnamefor2021 · 31/07/2021 12:06

Good on you OP.

NoProblem123 · 31/07/2021 12:06

You owe it to every single parking thread that has gone before you, writer AND reader, to lock those gates.
Never has a parking thread been juicier !

I am set for the afternoon now Grin

Ps - 11/10 for your diagram too!

LivingInABuildingSite · 31/07/2021 12:07

@Lulola

Can’t you put a massive pile of stones/manure between his car and the gate? Be there when he returns but point out it couldn’t be placed where it needs to be because of his car and you have a bad back…. So if he wants to get his car out the shovel and wheelbarrow are in the stables?

Let his kids see that not respecting others property leaves you in the shit, literally!

This. Definitely, huge pile of horse manure.
LtDansleg · 31/07/2021 12:07

Following for updates 🤣

Jossbow · 31/07/2021 12:08

Has he parked so you cannot shut the gate? I'd park something accross the entrance to prevent him getting out and have no idea who it belongs to.

Maybe They had nowhere else to park

PyjamaFan · 31/07/2021 12:09

Well done OP. I can't stand entitled people like this. Why do they think they are so special??

HavelockVetinari · 31/07/2021 12:09

What a CF! Shock

Some people have more front than Blackpool! I'm glad you've locked him in, the prick.

Batsy · 31/07/2021 12:10

you know you dont need ot post to the thread to follow right?

bookmark last post, and watch the thread.

Tarrarra · 31/07/2021 12:10

Well done!

KindergartenKop · 31/07/2021 12:10

I'm so excited to find out what happens when he gets back! Have a glass or two of champagne to celebrate OP.

Howshouldibehave · 31/07/2021 12:10

How was he ever only going to be ‘a few minutes’ if he’d already unloaded three kids and their bikes?!

GrasssInPocket · 31/07/2021 12:10

You really have to move his car then when he comes back and asks for you, whoever answers has to deny ever seeing their car and say "there was a lady who lived here but she died 15 years ago..."

^
This I would do!! grin

^^
Me three! Grin

Fullofglee · 31/07/2021 12:10

I'm.placemarking for the update well done op the CF.

Brefugee · 31/07/2021 12:11

I think by letting him park there for a “few minutes” you left yourself open to this happening .

rubbish. But as i have learned lately on MN people must be allowed to do anything they like at any time and anyone who tells them not to use/consume their property is being unreasonable beyond belief.

LakieLady · 31/07/2021 12:13

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

I have locked the gates and put my truck in the way.

I have chickened out of DBs tow idea as am concerned that if he rings the police to report it missing I'd get in trouble when it was found out I'd done it.

Please have a few drinks, so that it would be illegal for you to move your truck.

And practice sounding drunk. Wink

Ughmaybenot · 31/07/2021 12:14

Ah fuck that guy. Live in the countryside too, on a farm with a footpath across one field at the edge, in a very popular tourist area. Guess who has people parking in the fucking farmyard regularly, feeding our horses in their stables any crap they find in their car, or strolling past our kitchen window despite being fields away from the actual fucking footpath..?
I feel your pain, people are twats.
