To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

Lock the gates. Don’t leave a note saying you’re sorry. The twat had his chance to move. They can cycle home.

You need to lock your gates to protect your own property- that's not unreasonable.

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

There's absolutely now way he can get out if I block him. The top gate has one of those massive iron barrier things behind our gate. He could I suppose ram the front gate with his car (its Ford ranger so could probably take it down) but not if my truck (defender) is in the way and drive 2 doesn't join up with drive 1 unless he smahses through a brick wall and drives over my garden...

DB has suggested that a more exciting game might be to tow his car to a parking spot in the parking area and deny all knowledge of it ever being left on our track......

What a cheek!

Is there a parking space he could have used?!

Did you see that video a few weeks ago when a farmer used a tractor to flip over a car that was blocking his way?

Oooh! I like your DB.

We had a car towed in similar circumstances (not our car, our locol area). Forestry Commission blokes came and removed it as they had work to do and he was blocking their access. He had a really good rant on fb, but was laughed at by everyone who responded..

Move his car! Then hope you see him come back and look bewildered when his car isn't where he left it!

To be honest you should have never allowed him to stay there, it was obvious he wouldn't be 5 mins. Block him in for the weekend.

Of course you need to padlock and park your truck there.

This is crazy CF territory. What an entitled twat!

And I also hate that he has done that with his DC there-showing them the example that the rules are for other people-not them!!

Yep, tow it and say you assumed he moved it as requested because when you came to lock the gate the car wasn’t thereConfused

It would be completely unreasonable of you NOT to block him in now. And come and report all shenanigans to us until this is resolved.

Do like your diagram, especially the portrayal of your good self. Well done: A* to you.

I like the towing option especially if you can leave it somewhere he risks getting fined.

After all he said he'd move it and it wasn't there when you shut your gates 🤷🏽‍♀️

@ajandjjmum

Leave a note saying 'Unfortunately for you my life doesn't revolve around availability of parking spaces for your vehicle. As I told you, I had to lock the gate, and agreed to return in five minutes to do so, only to find that you had taken advantage of my consideration. I will return later and will happily unlock the gate for you to remove your vehicle from my property, but in the meantime I have to comply with the insurer's requirements for locked gates and CCTV to ensure that my policy is not compromised'.

I like this response, makes him think everything is being recorded.
Of course you can’t leave the gate unlocked with access to the stables! And he could see he was parking behind heavy duty gates next to a house and knew they were in use, but to stay when someone said to get off their land is another level of CFery. I wonder if a male had told him to go he would have?

I would definitely block him in … you told him you were going to shut the gates in 5 …. That also means locking/securing them. He can rind you when he comes back, waste his time by being elusive for a while.

Kudos for the diagram. I particularly like the self portrait of you fuming.

No brainer, this one. Lock him in. Don't be polite about it.

I second that you need to take photos and his reg number in case he tries to damage the gate to get out.

Totally unbelievable CFery.

Please update!

Tbh we often get people who don't seem to realise that just because they are in the countryside everything is not a free for all but usually if you ask them to move they will do so.

The worst I ever had was a woman who repeatedly let her kids into the garden to play on the trampoline at the end of every walk and had a picnic on the tables! She wasn't even sorry. I've never ever seen anything like it but secretly almost admired the pure cheek of her

I can't get my head around people like this at all. Surely the only rational response to being told you've parked on private land is to apologise profusely and move immediately, and if there's nowhere else to park then you go somewhere else or home.

Wow. You really do attract the rhino-hided CFs, don't you?! That's crazy.

They wouldn't dream of doing that in their own street, so why is the country any different?!
