To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

I reckon cf dad's wife is on MN, he's rung home to say his car has been locked in and she's given him hell and either picked them up or picked the kids up and made him bike home.

I love this thread so much. I'm a bit worried about OP's food coma though.

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon - if you wanted to be nice, you could contact the police out of concern that the man and kids have not yet been back for the car - anything could have happened to them riding forest trails... I suspect the first thing police would do is contact the registered address of the car to check they're home.

Loving old Gilbert being thick for the purpose of entertainment, whilst we wait on updates 🤣

Sigh you’re probably right. I should ignore.

Gilbert's I'm sure if you or DP/DH just go knock on the OP's door they'll give you your car back Wink

@GilbertsLuckySocks

That's the second time you have vaguely threatened the OP, despite your previous thread being deleted. Are you trying to goad someone or have you done it yourself? You are sounding increasingly creepy and threatening.

@Biblionerd Nobody cares. The OP doesn’t care, and 99% of commenters on here don’t care. He’s probably local and will come back tomorrow, or with his mates and something to snap the gate padlock off with during the night.

But this thread is good business for MN forum, that’s all that matters.

@GilbertsLuckySocks - even if a hi-def photo from a NASA satellite shows that the OP is a pants-on-fire liar, and there are no signs, it is completely irrelevant, because the man was told it was private land.

Plus - if there was no signage, why didn’t he point that out to @BlueEyesWhiteDragon when she showed him the signs?
@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius there is no evidence available to us to confirm the OP has signage unless she posts a photo.

Given all the details of her location she’s volunteered, anyone could find her house location on the Forestry Commission website and then Google Earth her home...to screenshot the gate with no sign on...
So why don't you post that picture you found on Google earth to back what you're saying?

@PricklesAndSpikes I haven’t had a thread deleted to my knowledge. I’ve been on MN since around 2008.

If this is the line you’re going to take, there is no point in most of the threads on Mumsnet. No one posts photographic proof of their AIBUs!

@GilbertsLuckySocks

OP has deliberately locked someone into her driveway, then sat at her window watching them whilst they return, unsure how they’ll get out again. Did you enjoy the worried look on the kids faces, OP?

She has to keep her gate locked.

Why should farmers allow all and sundry to park where they like? Do you open your home and garden to all comers?

I've been checking this thread all day. I have a child free day and night and it's kept me thoroughly entertained (child is with Grandma, not cycling with dad... he's at the pub)

Anyway, I'm just throwing in, at what point does it become a welfare issue... I've seen people saying call the police about the car etc, what if he's in a ditch somewhere spokes spinning 😱 it's been ages since their last visit to the car. Unlikely I know...
