Who should sleep on the air mattress?

Need to solve a potential argument!

My DS and his partner are coming to stay for 4 days on Friday (Friday afternoon until Monday morning) I haven't seen him since last August as he lives 5 hours away and because of covid restrictions etc.

My two nieces are also coming to stay (11 and 9) for the weekend, our house is 3 bed and the box room is now an office, the spare room used to be DS’ room.

I knew about DS and his partner coming first but I agreed to my nieces coming as my sister will be busy this weekend.

Who should sleep on the air mattress?

Whoever was first to be invited / announce their arrival gets the room.

FelicityBeedle · 28/07/2021 16:46

The kids, they need a comfy bed less and they’re lighter so less of a pain to use an air mattress. Sell it as an adventure

DysmalRadius · 28/07/2021 16:47

The kids! a) it will be more comfortable for them than for adults b) they are only staying for two nights (?) so less upheaval than everyone swapping and c) they're kids, so will likely not care whereas I don't know any adults that would choose an air mattress over a proper bed.

Viviennemary · 28/07/2021 16:47

Just put your nieces off. You can't accommodate all these people. Your sister will need to find somebody else for childcare.

Anoisagusaris · 28/07/2021 16:47

The 11 and 9 year old of course.

OutOfTrousers · 28/07/2021 16:47

Which room will the mattress be in?
If the living room then DS and partner as they’ll presumably go to bed later than the nieces.
If it can be put in a room that won’t be needed after they’ve gone to bed, the nieces.

Anoisagusaris · 28/07/2021 16:48

Unless having them sleep in the living room would disrupt the adults’ evening plans.

Of course she can accommodate them. An air bed for short term guests is perfectly fine.
pinkcircustop · 28/07/2021 16:48

The nieces.

Ponoka7 · 28/07/2021 16:49

The kids should of course. Unless as said they need to be in the living room and go to sleep early.

Nextchapterofmybook · 28/07/2021 16:50

Kids

gogohm · 28/07/2021 16:50

Kids - have you got a dining room? For "camping" under

PingedThroughTheWall · 28/07/2021 16:52

c) Not enough information to decide

Presume DS is an adult?
How many nights are the nieces staying?
Which room will the air bed be in?
How big is the air bed?
Are you suggesting both nieces share one air bed or is one niece going somewhere else?
How big is the bed in the spare room?

AliceMcK · 28/07/2021 16:54

Depends where the air mattress will be. If it’s in a bedroom or room with privacy then kids if it’s in a downstairs room like lounge or dining room where they won’t be able to go to bed until everyone else has, then the adults so the kids can have some privacy and go to bed before everyone else.

BatShitBitchChops · 28/07/2021 16:55

The kids! Also, if I was your son, I would be a bit miffed if the first time I had seen my mum in a year there were kids there that weren't mine. Kids change the atmosphere, whatever anyone says. What if you wanted to go for a nice meal or to the pub etc?

Bimblybomeyelash · 28/07/2021 16:57

The kids go on the air mattress surely?

GameSetMatch · 28/07/2021 16:57

Kids definitely get the air bed, you can’t expect adults to have an air bed over the children!

CaptainHammer · 28/07/2021 16:58

The 11 and 9 year old of course

HungryHippo11 · 28/07/2021 16:58

The kids should go on the air mattresses in the study/box room.
Adult DS in the spare bedroom.

I'm amazed if anyone would think the kids should have a bed while adults (who "booked in" first!) Go on an airbed!

This is also a good point! And then OP is debating putting DS and DP on the airbed to boot!!

Wondering if this is a reverse???

TokyoSushi · 28/07/2021 17:01

The kids, although I wouldn't have both staying at the same time...

PeonyTime · 28/07/2021 17:02

What other beds do you have?
And what rooms are you envisioning the various beds in?

KrisAkabusi · 28/07/2021 17:02

Assuming the air mattress is going in the box room, then the kids of course.

Onairjunkie · 28/07/2021 17:03

If I was your DS’s partner, you invited us to stay and then shoved us on a notoriously uncomfortable air mattress while two children were given a bed, I’d be a bit Hmm…

trainarono · 28/07/2021 17:04

It'll be in the living room. My sister has said that my nieces should be getting the bed as they're children so I was checking I wasn't BU!
